as a bay area california native i died hearing your friend in a full on british accent say "this croissant is HELLA WEIRD BRO" which is exactly what any native bay area person would also say if they came across a hella weird croissant but also as a baker, that hella weird croissant you bought is actually called a "kouign amann" and while it is made with croissant dough, it is different in that they layer sugar between each laminated dough layer thus that hella weird sugar caramel at the bottom of the pastry because the sugar melts out of the dough as it bakes and sets into a hard caramel candy!! kouign amanns are EXTREMELY popular here in san francisco/california/america in general as well. thanks for the entertaining content in osaka as i'll be there in 3 weeks~~!
