- It's all very well wanting to learn to do something the right way. But sometime when you have an idea, you've just got to go with it and see where it takes you. Well that's what this video is all about as I continue with my new goldwork leaves project where I am trying out different goldwork techniques that I've heard about but haven't put into practise.
However, as I go through the techniques I know I should try, I also have ideas that don't appear in my book. Things I've touched on before and want to explore more, finishes others have achieved or just a gold coloured materials that I like a little too much. This video shares 3 leaves which are more of an experimental variety, not quite conforming to a particular area of goldwork for exploration but fun all the same:
Gold Tubular Knit Mesh with Essing and 'Spangles- 00:15
Maderia Thread Couched Satin Stitch with Pearle Purl Edge- 05:40
Chain Stitch Purl with Looped Fill- 08:39
I hope you enjoy my little stitching adventures, let me know if you want to try any of these for yourself, I love to see how you get along!

Oh I really love the texture of that loop stitch! The spangles looked great too!
Thanks so much- always fun to discover a new way of doing it
I ordered Goldwork supplies from Sarah Homfray some years ago, I’m one of those who is saving them for that special project. I’m very much enjoying your videos. Thank you. 👌💕
Bite the bullet and go for it- you don't know what your hand and brain might come up with once you begin. If you don't like it you can always unpick it. With the pace of hand embroidery I often feel like you can't go too far wrong without realising as it is a slow living art :)
It's great to see you working it out on your own, nothing like trial and error. 👍
Got to get that practise in and make it work
I love these leaves. I think your work is gorgeous. Thx for video.
