MR.!!!! Abel, I cant BEGIN to tell you how thankful I am that I found your post!!! I have spent on entire morning trying to get around HP's "Non HP chip Detected" problem. I too had aftermarket cartridges that I was trying to replace and fought this ALL morning long. THEN I find you and your simple fix. As you suggested, I just easily replaced the chips, old to new and it works perfectly. Thank You!!
Abel! thank you so much. I was careful not to update my printer and have been using non HP since the original cartridges ran out with zero issues. Of course today when trying to make Birthday invites is the day I decide to replace the cartridges and get blocked. You saved the day with this little trick. Thank you! to others reading I did note that the older non HP cartridges where slightly different than my new (same company Smart Ink) with a third "guide pin" on the chip holder. It was necessary to cut that off to make it fit the new cartridges. Also noted the new chips had a "blob" over where the previous had only the micro circuit exposed. This was on the 910XL for HP Officejet Pro 8028e
Great workaround. The Internet and social media is full of people taking oaths never to touch another HP product. But many of us are landed with them for the time being. Your workaround helps us out. Many thanks.
I have just hours trying to solve this problem. Watched video after video of people who claim to be professional computor techs. And then came across this. You are a genius! It just made sense! Thankyou so much. My printer is now back in action!😅
You are a good man sir! Thank you so much. Such a simple yet out of the box solution while I was trying to do it the hard way and downgrade the firmware to get it to work. Old school methods rock. Hats off and thank you again.
This worked like a charm!!! After trying to install downgrade" software and spending hours at this, I found your video. Thank you sir for positing this very simple fix! I was about to throw out the printer and buy a new one and NEVER buy HP again! I still won't buy HP ever again after them hijacking my printer!!! Cheers Abel! :)
Worked on my HP Office Jet Pro 6978! I was having trouble with the more technical fix and this is an ingenious workaround. Thank you so much and fuck HP for making this necessary.
Also want to add that I had stockpiled several non-HP cartridges, so when the recent compatibility issue happened, I was faced with not only the dilemma of having to now buy the more expensive HP cartridges, but probably $150 worth of my existing cartridges would have become obsolete. Thank you so much for sharing this tip and - as always - fuck HP.
Going to eventually try refilling some of my empty 962 carts so I'll keep this trick in mind, thank you. I love my 925 printer, removable print head, excellent fast print quality, but ink is expensive and they have all kinds of drm to stop you from using non OEM carts or refilling. Might get a ink tank eventually if I can find one that does everything as well as my printer does now.
Hp unless you subscribe to their ink program the ink won't print or work how do you remove their chip and still be able to use all the ink you have from them and their program?
Don't know if you still need help. I removed it by taking a razor from a box knife and just putting it under the chip until it peeled off the glue. Worked well for me but I also was doing the system downgrade in the process so not sure which worked best.
