Why did it take me so long to find these videos...excellent work. I've been ultrarunning for 12yrs now, and the hardest part pre-coach years was to understand what to do. Do I do speed work, hills, cross train, strength work, yoga, cycle, swim, LSD etc etc etc. When you have a family and work full time there's only so much time in the week to commit to training. All so confusing when you're new, and just as bad when you have bit of experience. I still do flat intervals a day every few weeks because I like to run fast, and want to remember leg turn over, but why should you do more uphill intervals was excellent!
I had never thought of how running hard intervals uphill is better because it reduces impact and thus injury risk. Makes perfect sense though. Thanks for your videos. Looking forward to seeing your channel grow.
Putting this into practice tomorrow morning. Nice and humid in VA so might as well embrace it and get some real value out of an intervals workout. Thanks as always for the relevant content!
D-Bo doing the smart "parking your car at the bottom of Saltzman away from the the trailhead to reduce the chance of getting your window smashed in" routine for this one.
Oh man I did hill repeats in my cross country days! We did 10 second hill repeats x 5-6 with 1.5mi warmup and 1.5mi cool down 🥵 Makes me want to get back into them next year as I’m going to try and tackle my first 50 mile race (…maybe even 100 miler 🤫)
Great video! I was wondering, do you ever do intensity on technical trails if you are training for a technical race? I've never been sure about this because it's harder to get the heart rate up but at the same time you have to learn to go fast on technical terrain.
I'd definitely recommend doing some race pace stuff on more technical terrain if preparing for a technical race. Doesn't need to be every workout, but some uptempo simulators would help!
Jason, thanks for checking. So sorry for the delay. The beta testing just took forever. Should be very soon, but reluctant to give an exact date so I don't mislead you. We'll make a very loud announcement when it's live.
Watched this and the VO2max video. How often can these be done relative to overall “easy” volume each week? Also, mentioned these being an aerobic stress - do you recommend we mortals run shorter reps if we start to hit anaerobic or just slow down / hike and continue the full distance or time? Thanks
Any suggestions on time and distance for the intervals? I'm very interested in implementing this into my training, so any guidance would be much appreciated. Thanks for the great videos!
Depends what you're training for. Longer races, more tempo intensity (8/10) and between 8-12min with half rest. For shorter race, full gas Vo2 max intervals (10/10) of 2-3mins with equal rest. The best training tips I’ve incorporated! Thanks!! Keep trail running fr$$ .

D-bo is the man!
Thank you!
Great encouragement and guidance. I now do once a week hill repeats 1 hr. I now know what you mean...Valuable guidance, thank you

Enjoy!
Great training lesson. Thanks. Will definitely start incorporating hill reps in to my trail training.
Let us know how it goes!
Hill repeats got me through Cruel Jewel 50, and I'm definitely using them for Lake Sonoma 50 next year!!!
Great stuff Dylan... been in PDX for 2 years ...and probably ran saltzman around 3x.. definitely going back for some hill reps! Tks
Best spot in town!

Sad but true!
Great video.
Thanks!
Good stuff! Really liking the UA-cam content
Thanks Taylor! It’s been fun and we have big plans. 😀

It's hard but they make you so strong!!
@ohaiitsarielle, did you do the 50 miler?
@@alaskahudson I did! I also did my first 100 mile race! I made videos about both of those races on my channel 😇
@@ohaiitsarielle You are the man, I will watch both videos!
Great video. How ~steep~hills are good? Big climb reaps or some small % hills? Tnx
For shorter intervals, I like steeper hills for longer, tempo efforts, I like more gradual hills.
Thank you for answer. Regards from Slovenia. 😃🤟
With your films, Dylan, I can learn English, and known many interesting things😃😁

Logistical question: where do you do the warm up, just jog up Saltzman? Or up Saltzman to Leif? Just curious.
Yeah, I just jog up/down Saltzman for 10-15mins before doing the intervals.
Cool. Thanks for the reply.
Hi Dylan, any news on the android app? Thanks Jason. Loving the podcast on my runs 👍

What should the incline percentage be
How often are you doing these per week? Also for a two miles stretch do you go for example “ 30 seconds on 1 minute off” or what would you recommend?
Usually 2x per week. Workouts vary depending on what I’m preparing for. We’ll make more videos about this soon!
Just found this vlog, has alway love D-Bo. let me plug his wife, Harmony 's CDB company Blue Willow!
Hahah, thanks so much Adam! BW is indeed amazing!
