Many thanks Josh for your awesome videos. I love the early morning facial expression...Pure Joy... The footage of the scenery is mind boggling and you should receive a commission from Tourism NZ for showing all people not only from around the world, but also here in kiwi land of the "awesomeness" of Aotearoa.. I'm 88 and have never enjoyed such beauty as you have recorded. As far as whirly bird hunters concerned I along with 99.5% of Maori agree with your statement. Let the hunters that do the hard yards do the culling and maybe put the meat on the market. Maybe you should try selling spring water... I hear it's free for the taking. All you need is a bottling plant.. Stewed Thar in Kiwi Bushmans pure spring water. Kia kahe kei te pai ehoa.

Hey Josh Really enjoyed your film - have hunted the South Island twice - in 2006 and 2013 .....hunted tahr around Erceg hut - Horrace Walker and South Ophua for 5 weeks in 3023 .......february 2013 was too hot to get anything done on those steep Mountains .......( I'm from Denmark where the highest "mountain" is 173 meters high ! ) New Zealand hunting is quite a handful - and the Southern Alps is "no country for old men"....

Love the video & I would love to have a crack at hunting in the mountains.
This is an amazing animal that deserves a great deal of respect. In my opinion, the Himalayan Tahr should be earned & not handed to a hunter on plate. I've never been a fan of heli hunting & think it's lazy & is only justifiable if your disabled.
I'm not a trophy hunter & have no desire to fill my house with exotic animal parts from all around the world , but when I watch you blokes working your socks off to get a shot at one of these animals , I think you earned the rite to admire the trophy.
    Digging the awesomeness dudes, PEACE!

Great vid man, your a legend for sure, good to see guys earning their meat and trophies, Have to say my knees wouldn’t handle that climb though. I’m not a trophy hunter myself, I do it to feed the family real food and I fecking hate seeing animals being left to rot, there’s families out there who can’t afford meat and people are leaving it on the hill.
Doc definitely need to look at their policies on this

Glad that you guys got some good meat for the freezer and a big thank you for the commentary at the end of your video.Guaranteed pass on and hopefully the birodiversity officers at DOC take note.

In Alaska it is illegal to use helicopters for hunting or for assisting hunters in any way with the exception of rescue in a life threatening situation. It is also illegal to hunt same-day airborne using fixed wing aircraft.

By the way it doesn't matter how much we complain doc will do what they like, area's of the TeUrewera's are closed to wilderness zones (no fly) and now they 1080 it because animal numbers are excessive. Of course it's the possums they are after????????????

UA-cam need to look at how they work out what ads to show. About halfway through the video the ad shown was of what looked like load of underwear models in tweed on a driven shoot somewhere expensive looking. Cutting back to a video of a bloke shitting in the woods was probably not what they expected next to their advert.

Awesome video Josh and Smiddy. Ask Aaron if that's why his March is on Trademe now;) We were down river from him last year 2013 when he froze his ass off.
AATH is so stupid during ballot periods. Plenty of private land to shoot as well as after July when there's too much snow. Superb footage showing just how majestic these areas are.

Good to see your thoughts on AATH. It's going to take a big voice to get this rubbish sorted out. I currently guide for tahr %100 on foot yet it amazes me the number of clients ( mainly Americans) that are told by certain hunting lodges that it's the only way for people to hunt tahr. Making it known to the US market that it is possible to hunt tahr on foot and that local New Zealand hunters hate AATH will go a long way to helping the situation.
Keep up the good work mate.
    Cheers

    Hey there Josh.
Nice vid mate.Years ago I went hunting Thar around the Mount Cook area - similar terrain.
Awesome scenery - scary drops - horizons everywhere and Thar free falling into space - ahh the rashness of youth eh! LOL!.In fact a climbing team had a fatality in the same area we were in.Done some stupid climbs after Chammy as well.Heaps of helicopters then- but just tourists. AATH hunting ( not hunting it's just shooting)is wrong - want to hunt our Alps do it properly-fly in walk up.Years ago the Deer Recovery pressure had the thar and chamois dropping really low down - nailed a few down on the Five Mile on the Coast.
Good to see James - back in the day my brother Mark used to work with James and Dave in Deer Recovery in a 500C out of Fox.If you do see James again tell him my brother Mark eventually got his Commercial Rotor Wing Licence.
Stay safe and keep your vids coming - Yeharr!

Tahr culls, like many other forms of game management, are necessary to keep populations from growing to unsustainable levels but aerial trophy hunting should certainly be kept out of recreational blocks during use by hunters doing things the old fashion way.

Also AATH should only be used when Tahr have reached problem proportions.
As an Australian hunter, from my perspective, AATH diminishes the value of Tahr and has me second guessing whether or not the financial investment required to go to the south island and hunt Tahr is worth it.

Hey Josh mean videos man! I completely agree with your thoughts at the end but care also needs to be taken when shooting an animal to make sure you can actually get to it....i realise that's not always possible (have had the same problem). What was there 3 or 4 bulls you did not recover in this video? That's 3 or 4 bulls that wont get to 13".
A lot of us are trying for that magic number but if people keep shooting 11 3/4 bulls....they ain't gonna be 13". There are some good articles in older hunting magazines that will help work out horn length on the hill without shooting a juvenile bull. Anyway, just my thoughts. Love your videos, keep it up.

    • @joshjameskiwibushman
      @joshjameskiwibushman  10 років тому +1

Thanks for the feedback, 1 bull was not recovered, it looked like he was gonna come down after the shot for sure but snagged up. Im not after length when I shoot a bull, Im after the skin so not concerned about horn length. We saw a heap more bulls that we left alone. Easy way to judge horn length is to see how far they go past the ear and also if they curve out before going down. Huru!
