@@Dearalirehan Chip budding in grapes can be carried out in the late sping/ early summer months, when the vine can actively callus the wound to form the graft union.
Yes, it worked very well. I got a good solid graft from a Himrod variety that took last spring and it looks good this spring. I will try it again this week with a black Monukka and a red Vanessa. My goal is to have three varieties coming from one vine stock. Again thank you for the video. It help me a lot.
Hi nice video :) About grafting for example cleft grafting grapes when should i do it (before bleeding-dormant rootstock or when sap flows and wine bleeds, or when new growth emerges?)
The grafting on these grapes was carried out in mid/late-spring (October/ November) in New Zealand. You could start earlier and run a bit later depending on the temperatures. Normally anything over 21C is ok. The chip bud can be used before the bark slips and after it stops. When the bark slips the buds can be placed in a T cut.
In NZ this type of grafting is normally carried just prior to sap movement, and can also be done later in the season when the bark stops slipping. When the bark lifts easily the preferred method is to place the chip bud into a 'T' cut and bind with grafting tape. I am not sure which months this timing would co-inside with in other regions. Some trial and error may be necessary. Regards, Ian Adams
Hi, the tape can be removed after one month, as it will only take 3 to 6 weeks for the union to callus, depending on seasonal timing. It can be left on for several months if the binding is not tied tightly by using a hitch as shown and it will stretch, slip and release as the bud union swells. Some tapes will also break down more readily than others, but it is prudent to remove the tape once the callus has formed to eliminate any risk of strangulation. I have witnessed tapes being left on for an entire growing season without any adverse affects, being removed only when the vine is completely headed back to the established graft.
hi very good video pleas tel me can you graft in JUN by the fresh bud or from the cuting in winter ?please reply to graft my trees.thank you god bless you iam waiting your reply.and can i graft the grapes cleft grafting in May and Jun thank you so much.
Ok, it will depend on which hemisphere you are in, as to which timing will work best and which method of grafting is best suited. if you can provide more information, I will try to advise you in more detail. Ok.

Hello! When you graft to a bud do you cut the vine above it? I tried this way without cutting the vine above the bud. The bud developed and then died. Of 20 buds, nothing was caught. Where am I wrong?
It depends what time in the season the grafting is done. If grafted at dormancy the vine can be cut back prior to grafting. When done later in the growing season we normally wait for the buds to callus and grow before fully cutting the top of the stump off. Initially, once the bud grows portions of the top can cut back especially if they interfere with the new bud growth.Once the new bud scion has grown about 500mm to 700mm the vine can be fully cut back to the bud and trained into position.

Hi, Yes the knife is specially made for grafting. It can be purchased, they are made to order. It is known as a Scionon safety knife. The other tool that cuts the chip bud is an older model of Scionon grafting Shears.

If late grafting is necessary, when the bark will no longer slip, the chip notch method is reverted to. See my comment below. I hope this helps (Scionon).
It is normal to graft in the late spring/ early summer months. In late winter/ early spring a cleft or kerf graft can be used. Here the vine will be decapitated and dormant grafted. Leave any spring vine regrowth to help the graft take and if the graft fails a whip & tongue can be placed on the sucker regrowth, or the stump chip notch grafted. Southern and northern hemi-sphere timings will be virtually opposite months, give or take a few weeks. Scionon.

Sólo una pregunta, hermano. Por favor, el brote de uva que has alimentado. ¿Cuánto tiempo hace que sale el brote? Es decir, crecer a la raíz del otro uva. Mi saludo desde Argelia.
Hi, the variety being grafted out is Pinot Noir. The bud being placed is of a new variety release, of which I am not sure, but an improvement on Pinot Noir.
