I'm reviving a 1978 Honda CB400A Hawk Hondamatic. You got a great deal. I paid more and it's in way worse condition. Thanks for posting this. I have no idea what i'm doing, so you're providing much needed guidance.
I fitted a new seat cover to a Suzuki GT550 back in 1983 and it wasn't a difficult job. And it looked like an original factory fitted seat when I was done. And, all I needed was a minimal amount to tools to fit it.
That "Goofy" bar on the back, as you call it, was used in the circus. This is what the bear held onto when they went through the flaming hoops. It could happen.
Nick P Unfortunately, Summer ran short on me and I’ve not yet finished the bike, but it is going to be my Winter project, so an update can be expected soon. Thanks for your interest!
