    Zone 7B, N MS. My silver falls dichondra reseeds every year in between brick pavers off my back porch. It makes a beautiful groundcover with containers nestled in. And you can also harvest seeds from your coleus. I have used so many varieties in so many places over so many years that I now have reseeded coleus in some areas. I have one that is not like any of the original coleus but it is beautiful, so now I have my own coleus variety that I will save cuttings from year to year! I sowed some Watermelon Coleus seeds this spring that I harvested in 2020 and had good germination, with about 90% being true to the parent plant. In a couple of weeks, I will sow some Aztec and Persian Carpet zinnia seeds into trays, as well as some Rubinato, Rubenza and Double Click Cranberry cosmos. The zinnia flowers are small but beautiful fall colors, and the cosmos are beautiful deep burgundy. I leave my seed trays outside at this time of year and get very fast results. I don't put them in direct sun but in a shady protected area with good light. Of course, they have all the heat they need! I usually get germination within a couple of days. I have also begun taking coleus cuttings that I stick into pots of dirt that I leave in pretty deep shade, and they root in fast. I use the new plants when I remove annuals that are fizzled out by mid-August. Coleus are so versatile with light conditions that they work in almost any space.

    I have wanted to add the dichondra to my garden but I have never found it around here. I never thought about starting it from seed so I think I'll try that too :)

    Hi! Very exciting. I am going to look through my seeds and see what I can start alongside you. Also didn’t know diacondra comes in green. Beautiful. Will have to get some for ground cover

    I still need to plant out zinnias and gomphrena that I started two months ago. It’s abominably hot and dry in Atlanta. No seed starting for me at the moment.

    How many seed mats do you have? Starting seeds is like little surprises popping out.

      I have four … that seems to be enough for my level of production … sometimes I wish I had just one more but haven’t made the move to buy another oneZ

    How long do you let your new seed trays soak up the water before dumping out any excess?

    • @shesamadgardener
      @shesamadgardener  2 місяці тому

      I’m bad in that I leave the water in the trays 😬 … I check on my seeds every day and rarely see an issue with this … now, I don’t leave massive amounts of water but typically a half inch or less.

    I guess you’re not doing the zinnias seeds you bought and said you’re getting started early for a fall planting?

    How often do you rewater?

    • @shesamadgardener
      @shesamadgardener  2 місяці тому +1

      I check them pretty much every day to see if the soil is still moist … if it feels anything less than very moist, I add water.
