This was when I was very new to the sport as well, when I was starting I would have the issue of losing the fish by giving it slack while transitioning from stripping to reel.. took some time to realize you need to really set the hook well and let the line out slowly to start fighting on the reel… took me a time or two to learn but I fight 95% of my fish on the reel now
What size and weight of a rod are you using my biggest fly rod is a 9 foot 8 weight and wasn't sure if it was big enough for the stripers. We got into some nice ones last week on the Miramichi river in New Brunswick Canada Wednesday we caught a lot of them like 300 but Thursday we got into the big ones couple of 36 inches and 33's fun couple of days.
Great to hear! In this video Im using a 9' TFO 8 weight rod. Larger striper can sure give you a heck of a ride on a 8 weight but it is manageable. Tight lines!
@@catchingzzzsoutdoors1872 thank very much i didn't want to destroy my rod they hit pink and green sand eels hard here so I'm going to have to try tying something close to them.
I'm new to flyfishing. Why not use the reel and drag instead of stripping?
