Fortnite is actually a phenomenally designed game, especially in the character animation department, and it's constantly evolving. The only thing that it gets shit on for is its playerbase of annoying children and the way it caters to said playerbase. If you retextured the entire game to look more like a serious battle royale, like Apex or Warzone, it would be much more critically praised, but absolutely make less money. If you can get around the squeakers dancing on your corpse after building a seven floor fortress in 35 nanoseconds, it's a pretty fun game.
Fuck critical praise. Fortnite design fit's the game perfectly. Don't change it just to please a bunch of crybabies.
as someone whose major is a specialization in game design, fortnite is very much lacking in both game mechanics and art direction. while the spiderman crossover was very well-implemented, one of the main reasons why fortnite is this successful isn't because of good design, but because of its effective business model of catering to several different fandoms. it's the same business model funko pop uses, where they cater to different markets and in turn make lots of money.
mechanically, fortnite is very unbalanced and the building system does not make for fluid, organic gameplay, and when art direction is concerned, there isn't much heart put into it. despite everything, though, it is still a successful product, so it deserves some points for that.
@@lvcrimosv That major doesn't mean much I guess. Fortnite is very balanced, weapons and items get shelved if they're too strong. The game was popular and successful way before the multi crossover events so that excuse is irrelevant. You can dislike all you want but everything you said is false.
@@Hidden_lvl why, thank you for that attempt at invalidation. i'll still be diplomatic, though.
i'll acknowledge fortnite's success, but mechanically it has some issues. in fact, shelving weapons for being too strong isn't a sign of balance, but the opposite; it means the weapons ended up being unbalanced and had to be taken out. apex also suffers from this problem, where certain weapons ended up being too overpowered that they had to be either nerfed or made more difficult to acquire.
as for art direction, i'll concede that this might be more of a personal opinion, but fortnite's character design lacks a certain je ne sais quoi, which, combined with the stark lack of story in fortnite, doesn't make for an impactful and memorable experience. overall, fortnite works as a lighthearted game, but it definitely isn't special-but it does bring in the money.
@@lvcrimosv Shelving something that's above the unbalanced while keeping everything else in fact says balanced, Not even sure why you tried with that comment. It has a story but clearly that's not the main draw, the games a Battle Royal before anything else.
The problem with The Avengers Spider-Man is that he completely loses momentum when he shoots new webs. He should be gaining momentum, or at least maintaining it.

This is even more embarrassing when you look at Spiderman 2 the Game and Spiderman PS4, which came out in 2004 and 2018 respectively. They managed to perfectly capture web-slinging in their respective eras of gaming and are fondly remembered for how much they nailed web slinging in those games.
Those are 2 games who's SOLE purpose was to give us SPIDERMAN. These are 2 games that just happen to have spiderman in them. Not really the same.
I believe that because Sony owns the IP (Film rights and it's a bit of a grey area with games), there are specific parameters that anyone else who features spiderman in their game has to operate with. For example, they probably are only allowed to make spiderman this good, because they don't want it to take away from their own IP. So any non-sony released spiderman will be shitty.

It's insane how good the swinging feels in Fortnite, like even now as incorporated into the grappling gun it feels so smooth and agile.
Thanks to Fortnite I now know how Spiderman would web swing in an area without skyscrapers. He just swings horizontally like a game of tetherball.
Seriously, you can really tell that the people at Epic Games are fans of the franchises they collaborate with, they really nailed the feeling of swinging through the streets of New York and looking cool doing it

And that game is actually a masterpiece
Yup. All we need is Bruce Campbell talkin’ Smack in the background
That car web-swing in Fork-knife is definitely amazing. I hope they add that to Spiderman 2.
Peter’s excited “woohoo”s got me dead when accompanied with the swinging at a snails pace
Fortnite certainly knows how to handle the execution of most characters and their abilities.
The car surfing in particular is something I’m surprised Insomniac hasn’t done yet.
Apparently it's in the game script, probably a leftover from a removed feature.
well, the cars in the spiderman games go really... really... slow. it wouldnt be cool at all to be surfing with a car in the spiderman games. however maybe if you get shot in a car chase it would be cool to surf on the back.

The square enix swing reminds me of one of the elaborate swings in the PS2 Spider-Man 3 game. Thing is, that older swing required button combinations to achieve cool acrobatics, but this default swing feels forced, almost as if you wanted to try different but spidey glitched suddenly to just one movement
I swear the avengers developers plays a few seconds of Lego avengers and were like ‘so Spider-Man doesn’t need to swing off anything… interesting’
I’ve always thought a swinging mechanic where you actually aim the webs would be super cool
That sounds cool but you'd have to be quick about where you're shooting you're next web line. I feel like of they did that then they would zoom in so you can aim and just have Spiderman slowly falling down until you shoot at the next building.
You should play Ark: Survival evolved, there’s a Dino called a bloodstalkers which performs exactly like this, bit if a skill gap, but the rush I got once I Learned the controls
They did it in the PC version of Spider-Man 2, and it is one of the worst received aspects in the entire history of Spider-Man games.
@@XanderWhovian Agreed, that ruined the swinging got me, because if you're not quick enough, you just hang onto a point, it takes away all the fun

It's like those early PS1/movie tie in Spider-Man games where his webs just stick to the sky regardless of what's around him. Then the Spider-Man 2 movie tie in game changed it so he actually stuck to buildings with his webs and it felt so much more satisfying mechanically to control.
The narrator made fun of that fact too, in at least one if not both versions
Isn't Spider-Man 2 movie game's web swinging dependent on those floating spiderman icons in the sky?
imo, before Insomniac and Fortnite, Ultimate Spider-Man from 2005 was the best Spider-Man game with the best swinging.
@@TheAkrillion The Spider-Man 2 movie tie in game was the first to make Spidey actually swing from buildings and objects like streetlights and flagpoles. Ultimate Spider-Man came out after and used similar mechanics.
@@TheAkrillion The "infamous" PC port of SM2 had this floaty icons. The OG PS2 version however had realistic swinging and much more content than PC version in general. If I'm not mistaken, both games even had different stories as well.

In the past I would have argued avengers´ web swinging is like that because they would have to redesign entire levels just for spiderman, but fortnite managed to make it work with the general environment it has always had, just trees and low buildings, and it looks great. I think what makes fortnite's version stand above the avengers is that fortnite treats it like a grappling hook, kinda similar to infinite or titanfall. Instead of just being parabolic static swinging, your momentum and movement carry into the swinging physics which you don't normally see. In titanfall the physics are why you can do alot of really crazy moves with the grapple. Once forge comes out and once (I'm hoping to god they add this) you can set it to infinite use equipment in custom modes, I think we'll get alot of really cool spiderman maps for swinging around.
I love how utterly unique the fortnight one is compared to basically any other game with web slinging in it. We always tend to talk about how awesome it would be to swing around in a city but nobody ever really takes about how dynamic web slinging would be in other location’s and I think it was an ingenious decision to show of the absolute max potential for slinging in other places that I really hope future spider man games try to dip more into.
Another thing that makes fortnight’s so good is the fact that every single shot of the webbing is entirely up to the player which to my knowledge has never been done before, however this makes every single moment using them way more impactful and makes every thing way more interesting (imo) so now if you want to follow someone going in a car, while in any other game you would simply follow the car around the city, in Fortnite there a suddenly hundred of different ways you could go after them, you could simply follow the car until it stops or you could go ahead and try to hit one of the tires or you could connect yourself to the car or even try to land onto the car, and that’s not even factoring in the dynamic environments that constantly shake up how you can get from point A to point B, due to all of this being in the player’s own hand (at least for me) can lead to moments that genuinely feel better then some parts of ps4 spider man in terms of satisfaction.
Yh
You can literally attack a car by attaching yourself to it, stopping it then peter uses his brute strength to put it down. And attaching the web to minor things like trees isn't dynamic the way you point out, nor is being able to point exactly where you place the web. The dynamic web swinging in spiderman PS4 which uses momentum is way more entertaining and let's you be as acrobatic as you want while zipping around as fast as Spiderman really would, leaping around skyscrapers or small building or even central park, like Fortnite all you want but to claim it's better than Spiderman ps4 and while hiding it under the "it's my opinion" veil is laughable, subjectively your just wrong, just admit you're a fortnite fanboy and move on
@@envi2273 entertainment is subjective and you have to remember that fortnight’s is a limited time item and for ps4 web slinging was literally the focal point of the development, but latching on to a car in fortnight is way more difficult then you may think due to there not being a button that you can use to auto aim as well as the fact that a human being is driving and not the a hyper predictable robot, as well as that in ps4 once you have attached to the car at that point it’s basically a cutscene, unless your activity trying to fail it’s basically impossible to lose and whilst yes it’s more cinematic, fortnight’s give overall more reward to the player for doing something that isn’t literally pressing 2 buttons, also you mention how Fortnite’s isn’t dynamic which Leeds me to question if you even know what dynamic means since if you knew why would you even point it out to begin with since fortnight’s is actually more dynamic then ps4, in ps4 as you said ‘the momentum is dynamic’ which is absolutely correct, except for the fact that fortnight also has dynamic momentum as well as the web aiming which you somehow got wrong, the reason web aiming is dynamic all comes down to gravity, it’s way easier to explain in practice but I’ll try my best, if you are slinging to a tree whilst you don’t think this matters it actually is super important, if you shot for a higher up or further away part of the tree you will go higher up and if you shoot closer to the tree you will gain momentum, this is basically as simple as I can make it but keep in mind that it’s way more complex than just that but hopefully you now at least now have a middle school understanding of fortnight’s web slinging is really good,
also I just want to add that I said that it gave me SOME moments that were better not that the entire thing was better, Also do think overall that ps4 has the better web slinging in a decently close battle

@@spellfrfx1124 in avengers, spider-man shoots webs at the sky regardless of where he is, his webs don't attach to anything. Fortnite gets alot of hate because of ma changes, inconsistent updates and the skill gap between players.
The web swinging is a lot more physics/ragdoll based. I love it so much, they tailored The swinging (and The map) to make The web shooters work with Fortnites gameplay, love how he slides on The ground

Man swinging webs like 2002 Spiderman Game. Also, never knew you could car surf! That's dope!
The sad thing is, Square Enix is so close to making a good Spider-Man add-on. The voice actor does a good job, the suit looks fantastic, all that’s missing is good combat and good web-swinging. Yet they dropped the ball, and it saddens me.
Also, that Unlimited music brings back some good nostalgia.

I really was straight with what they did in avengers with Spider-Man for the most part but after playing him on there and then trying him out and seeing him on Fortnite it is a shame on how humiliating the difference is when it comes to the swinging. Avengers is literally based around marvel characters while they are just apart of the game in Fortnite.
Press F to pay respects for Spider-Man. The man who can only swing 15 feet off the ground while swinging at 10-15 mph.
@@flareboy166 honestly with how every single character plays in that game, I am legitimately impressed by CD if they actually upped the ante and made spiderman feel like he is swinging at 15 mph.

I hope Marvels spiderman 2 have swing boost and momentum in its swinging system and unlock the speed cap...We also need double jump or charged jump while webswinging and full loops
Double jump is a bit silly imo, charged jump sounds alright though
There's a possibility that they will add the web wings that you can use in the sequel plus insomniac confirmed that the swing would be more faster in the 2nd game
Charged jump was already a thing. You just had to unlock the ability.
Charged jump is a skill u unlock and the web zip momentum works about the same as a double jump once u unlock all of the webslinger skills
As far as i know the swinging speed is entirely limited by the ps4’s ability to load the map. I hope that since spider man 2 is on the ps5 it’ll feel much faster.
Ok I’m actually mad with how good that looks.
Ok grabbing on cars and use to "surf" on the streets is really a cool mechanic they could add to Insomniac's future Spider Man sequel, at least as some kind of side activity
Yeah honestly. I'm really hoping the next one just has a lot more cool activities such as stopping trains and what you just mentioned. Being able to surf with car doors or being able to just slingshot yourself. There's animation of him doing these things occasionally but they're not really implemented as game mechanics

Fortnite's mobility and feeling of momentum has ALWAYS been top notch, even when it was only shopping carts. It's not my favorite game but the movement keeps me coming back.
the movement rn with the whole sliding and running thing is pretty terrible tbh

EA makes really good free games, it's just that some things are questionable, but same can be said for all companies so I really don't understand the hate, Minecraft is also a major reason why I don't understand EA's hate because of minecoins
@@TrueHey alot of that hate stems from the fact that EA tends to usually be the ones who popularize the more scummy industry practices while at the same time they have a bad habit of buying up studios only to shut them down especially after sucking out all the life out of them.
but i do agree it's not like EA are the only ones who do those things. nintendo, capcom, konami, ubisoft & activision are all generally guilty of doing similar things to what EA does.

The problem seems to be that when spiderman shoots his web, he loses nearly all of his momentum, so he has to gain it all back again as he swings, then he loses it again.
In theory, letting go of the web with a good angle of 45°, he should build an incredible momentum, since 45° is the optimal angle to gain the most distance, balance it with height and also velocity. (Yes I know the fastest velocity is at the bottom of a pendulum swing, but when doing repeated swings like spiderman, you'd lose altitude if you let go of the web at the bottom, and repeated, 45° is the best mathematical compromise for maintaining a good velocity while maximising distance).
Looks like the team behind avengers spiderman forgot elementary pendulum physics.
It’s actually closer to 30 degrees rather than the 45 if you want to keep the altitude and momentum.
I loved the momentum in spider man on ps4. It felt so good to swing around and build up speed
@@bigpunk157 it depends on if you want more height or more range, but don’t forget that complimentary angles get the same range
