I'm a retired psychologist in the US, and I feel embarrassed about what is happening to my profession. Shortly before I retired, I resigned from the APA because of their stupid guidelines regarding dealing with "toxic masculinity" in therapy. Psychology has a lot of good in it (in its defense, the vast majority of therapists do not think like this), but this identity politics crap is poison. MLK is outdated! Jesus... I'm not really surprised, though. Identity politics has infected all sorts of media, government, institutions, and businesses, so why wouldn't it infiltrate the mental health system as well... Sad.

I wouldn't say the APA hates men, but that position paper annoyed me enough to quit. When I told the APA clerk my reason for resignation, she said "a lot of other people are doing that, too" (quitting).

I encountered the same issues during my tenure. I was unquestionably the most despised individual in the room throughout my studies ending late last year. Having repeatedly questioned this narrative.
I am officially a qualified counsellor now & will not be incorporating these destructive ideas into my practice.
How do you find and vet counselors like you? What are telltale signs that a patient can identify that will help them find someone that actually wants to help them rather than push their biases on them?

But there really isn’t a sure fire way. Most won’t advertise their perspectives too much to avoid repercussions.

I studied psychology years ago. Never finished because life hit me hard, so to speak. But by the time I could potentially have gone back, I didn't since I saw the rise of unscientific woke crap had risen significantly. If I had finished I actually wouldn't have had a job in psychology now either since I just can't adopt their unethical garbage. Similar case for why I can't be teaching class or something either. I'd like to do things my own way, the right way. And that's simply not possible in those professions this day and age. Decided to back out and focus on something else altogether instead.
This all coincides with women dominating the universities and in particular the social sciences.
I had talking therapy but as soon as I mentioned that I didn't believe in 'patriarchy' or identity politics - it went from therapy to defending my existance.
The thing that scares me the most is that a large number of the public is completely unaware of this madness that is creeping in everywhere whether it be private or Govt institutions.
I sometimes think I should stop listening to what's happening because in reality it doesn't really effect me in daily life all that much apart from laughing at the propaganda.
Problem is, ignore this ideology creeping forward and next thing you look around and you're living in 1950s eastern Germany - apart from the fact that a lot of this modern stuff is absolutely insane. Even the Stasi didn't torture their victims until they agreed that men were actually women.
They are aware, they're just too selfish and weak willed to act.
You really have to look around and ask yourself why this is happening....

I became a mental health counselor because I am a disabled veteran and I wanted to help other veterans. I had to “do my time” in community treatment to get the experience to work for the VA. It destroyed my desire to get my clinical license. I knew I was in trouble when my classes were all what they are describing and when I challenged my teachers and classmates I was told that no matter how many facts I had, I was wrong. And when my classmates (I was THE ONLY male and one of the few white people) called me names and said that I was projecting racism, I was the one accused of becoming angry. Which I was, but I always responded professionally. It makes me crazy and this is not the culture I went to war for.

Then I stopped laughing because I realised that it is a true statement, and not a laughing matter. I am very impressed by Amy, she is a very well spoken young woman. As Black person in the US I have experienced some prejudices but they mostly came from other nonwhite groups. I can only recall 3 incidents that occurred in the workplace involving a white colleague that their actions seemed to be biased but later they turned out to be horrible people all around to everyone even their fellow everyone irregardless of their background so it had more to do with their personality than prejudices. However, the traumas that I have experienced in my life have always come from the black community that I was raised in. The older generations need to stop projecting their own inadequacies and passing down generational trauma to the younger generation that prevents black youth from realizing their true potential if you’re always conditioned to blame the other for everything wrong that goes on in your life.

My youngest daughter is studying psychology at uni, she must have a great tutor because she hasn’t informed me of this BS going on. She was also studying counselling, but dropped that quite soon after her tutor announced her pronoun as ‘Per’. She said the lectures & classes were not beneficial at all.

It's not only frightening, it's disgusting. I'm an old fart and remember the civil rights struggle of the 1960s quite well. My wife was at MLK's 1963 "I Have a Dream" speech. We struggled for color blindness and an end to discrimination on the basis of race. The current racial essentialism was, and remains, anathema to us and, I would guess, to most people, at least white people, who participated in the civil rights campaign of those days. The farthest thing from any of our minds, as far as I know, was preferences based on race. Indeed, the Senate sponsor of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, Sen. Hubert Humphrey, said that the idea that the Act would allow preferences and quotas was a "bugaboo" and that if such came to pass he would eat his hat. Now racial preferences for non-whites and the demonization of whites, are all the rage. It is truly a disgusting development that has set civil rights in the U.S. back over half a century.

Its not just psychology, i recently studied a new course in Marketing in the UK. I was one of the 4 guys in the class which had 17 girls... i was so shocked when they really were opposing white male straight key note speakers (I was so confused to hear that) from these 20 year old ladies (I'm a 37 British man). Its so strange to here this from the young youth. I didn't care who the keynote speaker was along as we are learning from the most qualified. This woke culture is the biggest fraud or our time. Literally just one extreme to another.
This needs to be done in businesses, schools and everywhere else where these people are promoting this garbage and they need to be sacked asap.

All new academics that are hired at UK universities also espouse these views, particularly if they are in the humanities. I know someone who was recently hired at a UK uni. She wrote recent social media posts about how bad white people are in great detail.

Ive been studying neuroscience and her statement of “waring versions of reality” is so close to the truth.
I retired as a psychologist in the US about 5 years ago. For me, it was always important to limit my scope of practice to what was supported by the scientific principles of empiricism, determinism, parsimony of theory (Occam's razor) and testability. When people would refer to psychology as a "soft science," I would do my best to explain that certain models are supported by rigorous scientific evidence, and some are not.

I’m seeing the merest glimmer of a kickback against some of the current madness. One wouldn’t get this idea from the mainstream lot, BBC etc; who are doubling down on it.

Fighting this requires reason. These creatures crawled out from under their rocks because the light of reason has dimmed. Learn how to argue for the truth, learn how to detect fallacies and nonsensical patterns of argument, learn how to keep your claims connected to reality. Anything less, and they win, because they have already nearly succeeded in banning reason from the field.
We can't beat them with reason, I think, because the essence of their ideology is the opposite of reason. It is full of inconsistencies and if they can't win the argument with all the fallacies they've been taught, they'll think up a new inconsistency, or the'll just start yelling.

Reason is the means we need in order to understand that the destruction in our schools must be stopped. Reason is the means we need to understand that what unleashed the virus of Marxist doublespeak is altruism. The destruction of reason in our culture, though started by bad philosophical ideas about how we know, is now amplified by the power of an unquestioned moral code that worships pain and the underdog. It is time to question our sacred cows, if we are to save our culture from self-destruction.

As a psychotherapist myself the development of my profession is really annoying, frightening and, as they say, unethical.
I decided not to give in, I don’t treat trans people so they get their hormones nor I tell people they‘re entitled that everybody does as they want. With psychological problems it’s all about responsibility, understanding oneself and one‘s life and changing both.

This is indeed the case. Im from Canada and recently went back to college, so I was a 29yo white man around people who were 18-22 on average.
The open racism towards me was pretty stunning, as someone who is familiar with WW2 and the Hitler youth.....it striked me as very similar.
Lest we forget.
