3 nat'l forests and a couple of national grasslands & wildlife areas plus Big Bend. Not as good as BLM states but is something. Surprised it was on here too.
Definitely agree with number one! That's how we ended up unexpectedly spending three amazing months in AZ earlier this year haha. Looking forward to doing boondocking in several of the other states mentioned.
We all know what the states have to offer. While making another top ten list is nice, what would be nicer is more details on the actual locations INSIDE each of the states. Locations, tips, do’s and don’ts, etiquette ( as in don’t park right next to someone when there is lots of open space)....etc
Love all the info on this site! Would love to see more info on scenic camping in the Great Lakes area, U.P./Michigan, Voyageurs in MN. Also the east coast- Carolinas, Georgia, and FL state parks etc. Thank you :)
Thank you for your feedback! We've got more information on camping in all of these places over at www.campendium.com 😊 Just search for where you want to be! Some searches will return an INFO page in the results drop down - click on that to see the BEST camping in that area! Happy camping - Liz

So out of these 10 in order of BEST (in my opinion) Utah, Montana, California, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, South Dakota, Arizona. I haven’t been to the others so I can’t comment
Most of the state is private land but there are still spots out there. Especially in the national forests of east texas, sometimes I can go out there and not see any people for multiple days on the forest roads
Texas has an amazing coastline with abundant free camping options in addition to some lovely free camping locations inland. www.campendium.com/texas/free-camping
Fun list. I’d have thought California would rank much higher given the weather, varied terrain from beaches to deserts, to mountains to alpine lakes, and large swaths of state, national forest, and BLM lands.
I've been to several on your list and really enjoyed those visits. The ones that I will never visit are the ones with "really long borders", if you know what I mean. My ultimate camping experience that I want to do, but will probably never get to do is Australia. OMG it is so pristine there!
These top ten states are based on the Campendium community's ratings, but there are awesome free camping opportunities throughout the U.S. For more free camping throughout the U.S., head over to www.campendium.com
This is a top ten list. I live in the southeast and there is really nothing out this way...little spots here and there but not enough to even come close to what is available out west. There are some good ones in Florida but if you are wanting to avoid heat, best of luck with any free camping back east.
Texas has an amazing coastline with abundant free camping options in addition to some lovely free camping locations inland. www.campendium.com/texas/free-camping
I've been sleeping all over texas since November and haven't paid anywhere once. There's plenty of free camping spots you just have to look for them. It's not as easy as oregon and Utah was but there is still plenty
Definitely not any of Appalachia. Just camped it, so to say . All free public camp , in the national forest. Except w Virginia was closed due to COVID...
Nevada around Las Vegas is not really great for boondocking. Most places are too close to open shooting ranch and tons of off road enthusiast areas. A lot of garbage and glass at all spots I visited around Las Vegas. Sandy Valley Road, Lovell Canyon Road, Jean Dry Lake.....
Surprised Texas is on there since there is no BLM property in the state save a small bit in the panhandle. Though we do have 3 nat'l forests in th east in addition to the Big Bend in the SW area and a couple of nat'l grasslands that allow dispersed camping. I live in TX but lived in CO for several years and have traveled and kayaked there regularly as well as AZ, UT, NM and am planning a long retirement excursion this summer that takes through AR, OH, CO, UT, NM. AR wasn't on your list but they have 2 great national forests and where I used to paddle up there was on a Weyerhaeuser forest where we could camp for free.
Well as of 2022 Tennessee is not on any list for free. You can be arrested for trespassing, loitering, and just plain being homeless or camping…nothing free in Tennessee…
Are you kidding me? You western people have never been east of the Mississippi. I live in Ohio, and there are a lot of free camping spots here with plenty of places to fish and hunt. Keep going south and West Virginia has many free places to camp. Gods country there. Same with Kentucky, Tenn., and Georgia, South Carolina, and best of all, Florida. Much warmer winter temps than any of your states you mentioned. Get in tuned with the east side of the USA dude.
Hey Tall Dude! This video is based on the free campsites with the most 5 star reviews on Campendium from the 2020 calendar year. I was surprised by the eastern half of the US. I figured since it had way more people that it would have way more people in the camp sites and hiking trails. It was the opposite. I've been places in the Eastern US where I haven't seen another person for days. Hiking trails where im the only one there. Hell I stayed at a campsite like 10 miles away from a big city and was the only person there for 2 days.
I live in Indiana, and we have a couple areas like that, but they're few and far between compared to the density of good hunting and fishing spots out west. The Appalachian region is awesome, but don't go there in peak season. Its the most heavily trafficked region in the US in terms of tourists looking for hiking spots. Also, I definitely disagree with the winter temperature thing. Arizona's winter is heaven compared to northern Indiana winters. Our snow has the consistency of concrete, and our winter is still currently going on. (The last freeze here happens in the first week of May).
Texas is 75% privately owned. It is hard to find "free" camping sites. This video is misleading.
3 nat'l forests and a couple of national grasslands & wildlife areas plus Big Bend. Not as good as BLM states but is something. Surprised it was on here too.
cool stream..be cool too see a break down of each state...thank you
Moved to AZ in december and just did my first dispersed camping trip on the south rim of the grand canyon and it was life changing! AZ is the best.
Yay Arizona! I've been here for 22 years. I go to Flagstaff and Quartzsite mostly!
🌵 ❤️ - Liz
Flagstaff has the BEST truck stop shower- has a whirlpool bath tub in each one!
Colorado is amazing. I love Colorado so much
Really like the list… very surprised Oregon didn’t make the list
I wholeheartedly agree with 1, 2, & 3!!!
Definitely agree with number one! That's how we ended up unexpectedly spending three amazing months in AZ earlier this year haha. Looking forward to doing boondocking in several of the other states mentioned.
Always great tips! Thank you, bless you guys!

Thanks for everything you do
At first I was shocked that Colorado only made spot 5, but I get it. All lovely places to camp for sure.
Must agree with the top 3 especially. It surprised me that Texas was even on the list, I know not enough on the other states to comment.
This is a well done video, thanks. Well done, very straight forward and nice clips. Two thumbs up!
Thank you! 🥰 - Liz
Good video. I agree with you.
Arizona- as long as you’re not trying to camp near Sedona. We’re there now and a lot of it has been closed.
Thank You Sir Campy!
Adirondack Park 6 million acres. Catskills 700,000 acres. Tug Hill Plateau 1.2 million acres.
Thank you. You Make America Great Again 👍🇺🇸🖖🏻🇨🇦
Gorgeous spots definitely want to visit some time.🚐👋🏼
You should for sure! Enjoy ⛺️
how did Alaska not make it?

Great video! I wonder why did Washington State did not make the cut. Is it difficult to find camping there?

Nice job
Azai!!!! For the number one ☝️
I live here since 04 and I love it 🥰
So out of these 10 in order of BEST (in my opinion) Utah, Montana, California, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, South Dakota, Arizona. I haven’t been to the others so I can’t comment
What states are safest, with no bears?
I am from Texas and I was surprised that Texas was even on the list
Most of the state is private land but there are still spots out there. Especially in the national forests of east texas, sometimes I can go out there and not see any people for multiple days on the forest roads
Me too. We have very little BML land in Texas.
Ty. Put this on 1.5X speed
I thought Texas ended overnight camping in rest stops and most formally free spots
Texas has an amazing coastline with abundant free camping options in addition to some lovely free camping locations inland. www.campendium.com/texas/free-camping
Two states I will never go to again: Texas and California.
Fun list. I’d have thought California would rank much higher given the weather, varied terrain from beaches to deserts, to mountains to alpine lakes, and large swaths of state, national forest, and BLM lands.
I don’t live within a reasonable driving distance to any of these states. How about any state on the East Coast
Completely missed Idaho !! 😂🤣
That's what we want--miss Idaho.
I've been to several on your list and really enjoyed those visits.
The ones that I will never visit are the ones with "really long borders", if you know what I mean.
My ultimate camping experience that I want to do, but will probably never get to do is Australia. OMG it is so pristine there!
Glad to hear you've enjoyed so many spots! 🌳
Oregon, and Washington not on this list is criminal.
@ 00:43 I never understood why locals scoff at sounding like a tourist.
How about places east of the Mississippi that aren't on fire or 120 degrees?
heheh... maybe less then 120 but that humidity... holy moly
Compare to the western states, the east has very small amount of public lands. So not as much free camping.

@@StacyForest738 When I hear the name Florida, the 1st thing that comes to mind is Alligators and Pythons. Steer me Yes ? Or Exaggerated ?
Laughing about Texas. Ain’t so. And how can tell us about free parking and then say it’s $10 to camp in Big Bend. I’m confused.
Texas has an amazing coastline with abundant free camping options in addition to some lovely free camping locations inland. www.campendium.com/texas/free-camping

Would love to hear more about the places you stayed! www.campendium.com ❤️
I agree with Campendium, I would LOVE more info. I am in east TN and rarely find any free campsites, other than little bits here and there.
Wheres Alaska
Nevada around Las Vegas is not really great for boondocking. Most places are too close to open shooting ranch and tons of off road enthusiast areas. A lot of garbage and glass at all spots I visited around Las Vegas. Sandy Valley Road, Lovell Canyon Road, Jean Dry Lake.....
alaska has lots of free camping

Or Ne-vah-dah if you want to pronounce a Spanish word like it sounds in Spanish
You could change the title of this for ten videos. "Best States for ".
Well as of 2022 Tennessee is not on any list for free. You can be arrested for trespassing, loitering, and just plain being homeless or camping…nothing free in Tennessee…
Camping in Colorado is amazing but on BLM, you will have lots of cow friends!

Tall dude, the east coast sucks, that’s why I left when I turned 18 and moved to Montana, never looked back
