There is a small possibility that she might had nothing to do with the murder, the other guy called Marty killed Desire, his boot marks were on the floor, the mistress went to the police and rat Marty, knowing that if she was involved in conspiracy to commit murder, Marty could testified against her in exchange for a lighter sentence, why didn't he? Maybe she gave Marty the tips about when the victim was going to be home, but maybe she never told him to kill Desire. The mistress was only having an affair with Scott, but not with Desire. The mistress is obviously a liar, but not the killer.
