nice!! my hedgehog homes are made of a black Mortar Mixing Tub in which i inserted a plastic tube of 125cm diameter. I insulated it from the inside with 3cm polystyrene (bottom 4 cm - so the bottom of his nest is soft for his feet and 4cm of the ground, so the hedgehog will nog get wet feet. I saw on my wildcam that at least in one of these homes a hedgehog was building his nest for the winter. Do not forget a air hole (small plastic pipe with a diameter of about 2cm drilled with small holes in it for fresh air. The holes must be drilled in so that the hedgehog can not clog it with leaves)
Hi David, I've just spent two lovely...but rather chilly! hours watching two hedgehogs in my garden. I think they are both living in the hedgehog house which I've had since last summer. I'm hoping they'll have some hoglets soon! Best wishes!
Thank you, will be making one or two of these....wondering will they use this all year round for shelter or just for hibernating & also do they ever hibernate together or always alone. We've had two hogs visiting our garden so far this summer...so happy to see them again as we used to have one many many years ago but I think it was either an old one or more likely was killed on the road :(
I don’t think you would have problems with wood that has been painted or chemically treated if you leave it over winter in an open position prior to using it.
They only eat slugs and snails if they cannot find enough beetles and caterpillars to eat. Slugs and snails give them lungworm which can be fatal. Never feed them mealworms as this makes their bones weak, their legs then break and they starve to death. Please people educate yourself about hedgehogs, they really do need our help.
These sort of wine crates have usually been treated with chemicals so are actually a disaster for wildlife. Small creatures are very sensitive to chemicals and can develop organ damage
lol,how to i gat rid of all the hedgehog poo, before my gardener comes, lol, boy can they eat!!!!! i have one the more often then not is staying in my hog house,i’m over the moon,no wonder they love my garden, loads of food, and plenty of water, don’t forget hedgehogs are milk intolerant so deffo noooo milk, kitten chicken biscuits are easy to get,and they love them, nothing fish based,i have been a keen supporter of my local hedgehog rescue,so it’s all good info, just love them 🦔🦔🦔🦔🦔❤️

I've just done a video on the hedgehog that visits my English garden. I leave plenty of leaves out so they can build a nest under the hedgerow.
