I started reading IT on Monday and I´m about 350 pages in and it´s sooo good, I´m struggling to put it down!! Absolutely in love with the story and characters and I love the way Stephen King writes. So thank you for going on about his books because I wouldn´t have read it if it wasn´t for you planning on reading many many more

What I'd give to be reading it (ahem) for the first time. Its that impactful. It's the only book that I immediately wanted to reread after finishing the final page.
Needful Things was the book that hooked me as a kid. As I read it I felt I was reading something I shouldn’t, and it was so good. Because that one was my first, it remains my favorite, but so many are close favorites (and in reality better given they are masterpieces).
I still haven't read beyond The Dark Tower series, but since I loved that series so much, I will definitely be reading more by King. It never hurts to have some additional motivation from a Mike's Book Reviews "Why You Should Read" video, though!
Salem’s lot got me out of my reading slump earlier this year after a couple years and it was my first King book. Today I’ve just finished my 8th which is Dreamcatcher and I’m not planning on stopping anytime soon! His writings however thick and long at some point of the book, they just feel rewarding for me to spend the hours reading them. Also glad that I met different types of horror between those 2 and the other 6 (It, Shining, Dr. sleep, Cujo, Misery, Shawshank) and your point on Dark Tower series, I never find the urge to dig that one in, now they’re simply climbed my TBR list! Keep up the great work on your channel, I’m happy that I found your videos on King’s work.
Picked up Billy Summers on a whim because the cover looked cool at Barnes and Nobles back when it first came out. Knew SK but never read him.. hadn’t read for pleasure in probably a decade and this author got me fully emerged back into reading. I’ve read over 30 SK novels since then and watched every King video put out on this channel. Quite literally, life changing hahaha. Hell ya Mike keep em coming!

Honestly could listen to you talk about Stephen king forever man. I think you really understand his stuff well. I just picked up the 2024 edition of salems lot and omg is it an experience. If you can get me to put the game down and have me not wanting to read, NEEDING to read then I think you’re an excellent author. I do remember reading the first 30 or so pages of Billy summers years back when it first came out and loving it but salems lot so far is my favorite king book and I haven’t even finished it
First book I read from Stephen King was Thinner. Fell in love, haven't looked back. I was 14 maybe 15 . My son started reading King at 10 years old (he was the reader in school that gets all the awards in school for comprehension, speed, etc). When the Dark Tower movie came out (with Idris Alba) we got a tattoo across our backs (my son's idea) with the first line of my son's favorite series - The Dark Tower. I have the first part with a rose and he has the second part with a rose. "The man in black fled across the desert, and the Gunslinger followed." Iconic. Yeah, we're constant readers alright. Thanks for the video, my favorites of yours are anything with King content, but I enjoy them all!

I started reading King last November. I hadn't read a book in a few years before that. I am hooked. I am on my 20th book now. Fairy Tale. I am really enjoying it. So far, my favorite has been The Stand. I really enjoy this channel as well.
This brings back fond high school memories of borrowing Stephen King books from the public library. I am hoping to re-read his older books and then continue his other books. Hope to be starting with Carrie soon. It's been so many years since I last read it! Thanks for sharing!

Jesus Mike. The passion in this video is ridiculous. It’s almost like King is your favorite author! Awesome video man. King is my favorite writer and everything you said it spot on. It’s amazing that in some ways King is underrated? When you talked about his detail in character all I could think about was the Chef and Andy in under the dome. Ancillary characters but one of the most entertaining relationships I have ever read. King does not miss with character development. Love hearing your passion and King is underrated!
Im not a constant reader but a gamer. Im playing silent hill 2 remake and never thought the place is heavily inspired by kings stories. Silent hill is indeed a small town in maine.
I have been reading King since I was a teenager and now I'm 35, but I have spread my reading out of his books so much that I forget things and I have to reread him to remember things like details that connect his books. I didn't realize for years his books were interconnected until I started noticing that a lot of his books take place in either Derry or Castle your channel really helps.
I've been meaning to jump on the King bandwagon for ages, but never got around to it, but in the last year a re-watch of Misery and The Shining have finally got me to pick up Misery, along with you extolling King's virtues in this and other videos. I can't wait to start my King journey!

Started with the Dark Tower and loved it from beginning to end (on your recommendation, I read Salem’s Lot about midway through-worth it). Now working through the King catalogue in publication order to catch the multiverse tie-ins. My goal is one King book every 2-3 other fantasy/sci-fi books. Favorite action thriller book of all time: Running Man I think this is a great book to get into Stephen King. Then of course stand by me or Eyes of the Dragon for people who want a light entry. My mother for example even tho she is an avid reader never touched King. So for her I suggest led Mr Mercedes and she loved it.
My favorite King book is the first one I read of him, "The Green Mile". Love so many of his books... but I haven't read "It". But Mike, you've convinced me to read "It," so it´s my next book for this October. Love tour channel!
I started reading King about 2 years ago, and I've read 3 of his books, they were all 5 stars so I decided this year I'm gonna read Dark Tower and a bunch of the connected novels and eventually everything else he's written
I've only read two King books (1st two DT) and I have been itching to read "classic King". I bought Salem's Lot which is now on deck/night stand to be read next. You introduced me to Stephen King and convinced me to try his books out (started with Misery). Now I have a whole shelf for just King books 😆. No regrets 😌😌 And thanks 🤩
Finally, your videos convinced my to try him again. And to read "Different Seasons". I go along with many things, he's a phenomenon and the whole aura of his writing is unique, he has so much fantasy and vivid characters and, yes, he transports me to America. I see quality in all of this and because of it I always wished I could read his novels. And I really love his short stories ("The Man In The Black Suit" - the best, King didn't like to write it but his fans liked it and it won awards). I think his style is made for them, I but I just couldn't read his novels. Tried 5 or 6 times. I got to page 100 of Dark Tower 1 because my ex girlfriend is a big King fan just like you and she's to this day high praising the Dark Tower series, but (if my memory serves me right) it was written stiffly and meandering for my taste. I got to around 50 pages before the end of "Duma Key", just before the resolution, put the book away to continue the next day. Never picked it up and didn't feel I missed anything. I don't think negative of King's writing in any judgemental, condescending way, that "I can do better" or "he's sooo bad", rather neutrally. I want to become a writer myself and study the craft of writing for years now before I want to publish my first novel. So I know from experience how EASY (!) it is to see the flaws in other authors' writing and miss them in your own (!). That's why I don't judge easily. Writing is hard, very, very hard and frustrating at times if you really honor the word and the craft and want to learn everything. I'd never thought that when I wrote my first novel five years ago. But because of this I always think that King doesn't polish his drafts enough when I read a few pages. He could easily cut words. Lesser authors would get their drafts back from their editors to polish them. He does what he warns about in "About Writing". If the road to hell is paved with adverbs, he will scream all the way down 😆 I hope I didn't anger any King fan here. And maybe I'm wrong, because... ... I've still got "Cujo" and "The Shining". I'll start with Shining. P.S. Yes! "Lonesome Dove" is a masterpiece, novel and the movies. I saw yesterday that there's a video on this channel about it. Have still to watch it.

The best example of a 10/10 missing the landing was Under the Dome. Still just dropped it to like an 8 for me, but man, the escalation of events in that book are just perfect for me. Hate that the ending could coalesce all those moments into something powerful
I read Cell in 5th grade and loved it. That’s where I got my first taste I was shocked to hear people don’t like it. I’m sorta afraid to go back and reread it now
Last week I read my first Stephen King book which was Carrie, I choose that one cause it wasn't that long of a book (around 200+ pages) and to get a taste of how he writes his books. Needles to say I had a blast, completed it in pretty much a day. I also have the IT book which i will read sometime in the future but because of how big the book is and also because im already reading the wheel of time I dont have the will to start to start reading such a huge book just yet. But i sure do look forward to digging my teeth into it when the time comes.
This Spooky Season so far has been all Stephen King for Me ! Read 'Pet Sematary' and now am 70% done with 'IT'. Add that to 'The Stand' and 'The Shining' and that's all the King Books I have read so far....but the next one from Him I'll be picking up is either going to be 'Misery' or 'Salem's Lot'. Will do 'Dark Tower' and '11.22.63' next year! And Mike, You are the reason I started down this King's Road...so Thank You!

I'm reading my first King book right now (Pet sematary) and I gotta say I'm pleasantly suprised (kind of weird thing to say about horror 😅). King suprised me with doing a thing I didnt think possible. I usually get bored very quickly with everyday life in stories but King has such a way with words and character work that I find myself intrigued at every single pace. Long story short, this won't be my last Stephen King book. 😁
King is the king of writers. What an author. He is an institution as a writer. Characters are sublime, they stories are amazing and the tense he can build up is unmatched. All hail the King.

He is my favorite author. I liked him all my life because of the movies. I'm 43 now and only started listening to his novels on Audible last year. I have listened to 44 now and love his books! His endings are not great in my personal opinion. Some of them are not bad, but I personally hate the end of the Dark Tower series and especially The Long Walk. A few others as well, but those stick out to me. I don't like open-ended endings. I like the author to finish it, not for it to be left up to my imagination. I am not a journey over the destination person. I need both to truly love the book. I still love the Dark Tower series, though, and will go back to books 1-4 and maybe even the others someday. Rolland is one of my favorite characters in any kind of media ever.
The Stand was my first King novel. The second half of the novel showcased some of the best character development. There was a rush in the second half and the end was particularly bad. Many people say that this book was their best book ever, so I'm kind of confused reading other SK books. On the SK shelf I have Shining, Salems Lot, Misery Pet Semetary and IT. I hope they don't disappoint me like the Stand had.

One of the endings I remember being disappointed in was Needful Things. I loved the rest of the book but I remember hating the ending. I don’t recall exactly why as it was a long time ago that I read it. I might need to revisit it.
Norman Daniels in rose madder always gave feelings of dread every time you read his perspective parts in the books eg : when you least expect it I’ll get you!

I don’t understand why certain people say he’s a bad author? To me he’s got it all: character and story development, suspense, beauty in descriptions of emotions and thought, and he has insight into how people think and process things, And he can set an atmosphere that places you right into the story. Anyone who writes more than 10 books is going to have a dud every now and then. 🤗
What is the first book in the Dark Tower series? I love Stephen King's stories as well, but have been resistant to beginning the Dark Tower series because I don't want to wait around for the last one. Truthfully, I don't know if this series is completed, that is the other question. If it is then I'll dive in. I've read all his novels and almost all of his short stories, have only two more in You Like It Darker, then will have to begin again. His writing has been with me throughout my adolescence and adulthood, you could say we grew up together! It's unfair how insanely prolific he is while still being so... idk, creative? Tapping into something essential sometimes. I'm about 400 pages into It and see why you recommended it. Wonder where I would be if I had started there instead of the ones I managed to obtain? And yet I still have read so little of his work overall. Pet Sematery and Salem's Lot are still high up on the to-read list.

My favorite King book is the first one I read of him, "The Green Mile". Love so many of his books... but I haven't read "It". But Mike, you've convinced me to read "It," so it´s my next book for this October. Love tour channel!

I started reading King about 2 years ago, and I've read 3 of his books, they were all 5 stars so I decided this year I'm gonna read Dark Tower and a bunch of the connected novels and eventually everything else he's written
I've only read two King books (1st two DT) and I have been itching to read "classic King". I bought Salem's Lot which is now on deck/night stand to be read next. I couldn't help myself and read the prologue and I have a feeling this one is going to be a much needed 5 Star Read. Excellent video Sir. Oh and your Texans are looking real good man!!

Finally, your videos convinced my to try him again. And to read "Different Seasons". I go along with many things, he's a phenomenon and the whole aura of his writing is unique, he has so much fantasy and vivid characters and, yes, he transports me to America. I see quality in all of this and because of it I always wished I could read his novels. And I really love his short stories ("The Man In The Black Suit" - the best, King didn't like to write it but his fans liked it and it won awards). I think his style is made for them, I but I just couldn't read his novels. Tried 5 or 6 times. I got to page 100 of Dark Tower 1 because my ex girlfriend is a big King fan just like you and she's to this day high praising the Dark Tower series, but (if my memory serves me right) it was written stiffly and meandering for my taste. I got to around 50 pages before the end of "Duma Key", just before the resolution, put the book away to continue the next day. Never picked it up and didn't feel I missed anything.
I don't think negative of King's writing in any judgemental, condescending way, that "I can do better" or "he's sooo bad", rather neutrally. I want to become a writer myself and study the craft of writing for years now before I want to publish my first novel. So I know from experience how EASY (!) it is to see the flaws in other authors' writing and miss them in your own (!). That's why I don't judge easily. Writing is hard, very, very hard and frustrating at times if you really honor the word and the craft and want to learn everything. I'd never thought that when I wrote my first novel five years ago. But because of this I always think that King doesn't polish his drafts enough when I read a few pages. He could easily cut words. Lesser authors would get their drafts back from their editors to polish them. He does what he warns about in "About Writing". If the road to hell is paved with adverbs, he will scream all the way down 😆
I hope I didn't anger any King fan here. And maybe I'm wrong, because...

P.S. Yes! "Lonesome Dove" is a masterpiece, novel and the movies. I saw yesterday that there's a video on this channel about it. Have still to watch it.

The best example of a 10/10 missing the landing was Under the Dome. Still just dropped it to like an 8 for me, but man, the escalation of events in that book are just perfect for me. Hate that the ending could coalesce all those moments into something powerful

Last week I read my first Stephen King book which was Carrie, I choose that one cause it wasn't that long of a book (around 200+ pages) and to get a taste of how he writes his books. Needles to say I had a blast, completed it in pretty much a day. I also have the IT book which i will read sometime in the future but because of how big the book is and also because im already reading the wheel of time I dont have the will to start to start reading such a huge book just yet. But i sure do look forward to digging my teeth into it when the time comes.

This Spooky Season so far has been all Stephen King for Me ! Read 'Pet Sematary' and now am 70% done with 'IT'. Add that to 'The Stand' and 'The Shining' and that's all the King Books I have read so far....but the next one from Him I'll be picking up is either going to be 'Misery' or 'Salem's Lot'. Will do 'Dark Tower' and '11.22.63' next year!

I'm reading my first King book right now (Pet sematary) and I gotta say I'm pleasantly suprised (kind of weird thing to say about horror 😅). King suprised me with doing a thing I didnt think possible. I usually get bored very quickly with everyday life in stories but King has such a way with words and character work that I find myself intrigued at every single pace. Long story short, this won't be my last Stephen King book. 😁

I think Revival is so underrated. I recommend it for any Stephen King fan.
He is my favorite author. I liked him all my life because of the movies. I'm 43 now and only started listening to his novels on Audible last year. I have listened to 44 now and love his books! His endings are not great in my personal opinion. Some of them are not bad, but I personally hate the end of the Dark Tower series and especially The Long Walk. A few others as well, but those stick out to me.
I don't like open-ended endings. I like the author to finish it, not for it to be left up to my imagination. I am not a journey over the destination person. I need both to truly love the book.
I still love the Dark Tower series, though, and will go back to books 1-4 and maybe even the others someday. Rolland is one of my favorite characters in any kind of media ever.

I hear ya on the endings! Some are better than others.
The Stand was my first King novel. The second half of the novel showcased some of the best character development. There was a rush in the second half and the end was particularly bad. Many people say that this book was their best book ever, so I'm kind of confused reading other SK books. On the SK shelf I have Shining, Salems Lot, Misery Pet Semetary and IT. I hope they don't disappoint me like the Stand had.

One of the endings I remember being disappointed in was Needful Things. I loved the rest of the book but I remember hating the ending. I don’t recall exactly why as it was a long time ago that I read it. I might need to revisit it.

King is my all time favorite i haven't read anything i dont like even his less popular books are still great and i think rose the hat is probably one if the best villains ever created in anything

To me he’s got it all: character and story development, suspense, beauty in descriptions of emotions and thought, and he has insight into how people think and process things, And he can set an atmosphere that places you right into the story.

What is the first book in the Dark Tower series? I love Stephen King's stories as well, but have been resistant to beginning the Dark Tower series because I don't want to wait around for the last one. Truthfully, I don't know if this series is completed, that is the other question. If it is then I'll dive in. I've read all his novels and almost all of his short stories, have only two more in You Like It Darker, then will have to begin again. His writing has been with me throughout my adolescence and adulthood, you could say we grew up together! The series is complete. Dive in. The first book is the gunslinger. I found the first one a little dry but the rest are outstanding (my opinion)

Currently read the Shining. Finding its one of his best atm even tho it is a slower paced King novel.

I'm about 400 pages into It and see why you recommended it. Wonder where I would be if I had started there instead of the ones I managed to obtain? And yet I still have read so little of his work overall. Pet Sematery and Salem's Lot are still high up on the to-read list.
