  • I will show you how I added water shut-off valves to a bathroom without soldering. It is always a good idea to have shut-off valves at individual bathrooms. This way you do not have to shut the water down to the whole house to make repairs or remodel.
Modifications like this can be intimidating if you have copper plumbing . I will give you another option that does not include shark bite fittings, which are known to fail over time.

That nail is a classy way to hold up a water line, they do make clamps.

Lol, The house was built in 1964. (Before I was born) They may not have had clamps back then.

good option you showed, but I don't agree with your assessment that Sharkbite fittings are "known to fail over time." Given enough time, all fittings will fail. Sharkbite warrantees its fittings for 25 years if used with Sharkbite tubing. The key is in the prep, just as with copper, you have to clean and de-burr the ends before shoving them into the fittings. Here's the advantage-- say you don't trust the Sharkbite to last more than X number of years, well, just mark your calendar so when that year X comes around, you turn off the water and replace the Sharkbite fittings either with new Sharkbite or conventional fittings. Once the water pressure is off, you can swap them out in a matter of minutes, much faster than soldered fittings. In any case, Sharkbite and other push-to-connect fittings (i.e. Watts Aqualock) are getting better accepted as a new generation of plumbers is taking over. Would I use push-to-connect inside a wall I was sealing up? Probably not, but they are all over my basement and in accessible locations on other levels of my house. No problems whatsoever.
Back to your video-- Sharkbite makes some awesome slip fitting ball valves for copper which would have had your project done in a matter of minutes: www.sharkbite.com/us/en/brass-push-to-connect/valves/ball-valves/max-slip-ball-valve. Cheers--

Shark bites are a great emergency fix. I just don't want plumbing in my house that has to be maintained. I have seen sharkbites used in industrial settings and have seen them fail after a few years.
Thanks for your comments though. 🙂
