So, here's the thing: Ohdove (the villain) is the Japanese way of sounding out "Hors d'oeuvre"(オードブル) being re-translated to English phonetics
blowing my mind here with the knowledge bomb
Funny that nobody knows it's actually pronounced horse do-overs
@@Manigeitora Baloo knows.
thanks for that splanation.
as usual I feel like the romanization's wrong, and it should be odaburu rather than odoburu. the ah sound is closest to urr, and usually what they use in loanwords that contain it.. of course the french sound is oo like in foot, so not sure WHAT that should be, maybe even oduburu. but then you'd have to do that thing with a tiny u kana placed after a d kana..
@@KairuHakubi in french "hors d'oeuvre" hasnt a oo sound like in foot its more a uh sound like in duh "hors 'duh'-vre" lol so ig from a french perspective odoburu is closest to the real pronunciation than odaburu
I'm really lovin' Arin's enthusiasm for this game. It looks so polished and charming too, so i can see why he is.
Such genuine joy! It makes me love watching it
It's so nice to see him having fun with a game too
we stan panic restaurant
Of course he's excited, it has gambling in it
For real, this game looks fuckin great, and it's nice to have them passing the controller like buddies in 1992. Fuck. I'm turning 39 in a few days... I miss this feeling, and they can do it every day 😂
So my dad actually gave me a copy of this game when I was about 13. There's no sentimental back story or heart felt tale. He literally found a rattling, decrepit copy in a box he was clearing out of the alley behind our house in St. Louis.
1) that’s absolutely the kind of backstory they meant 2) they’re worth mad money now so if you still got it, don’t want to keep it and ever need rent...
That is such a heartfelt story
I love how Dan often seems to struggle with games even as early as the 16 bit era but the moment it hits 8 bit he’s right at home 😆
This is why I love when they play old games.
Both Grump Gamers feel at home.
It's called being old lol
They need to get back to some best games and hand over the control to Dan more often.
@@TheRealBatabii Avatars are lame, bruh. Solid field with a single letter is where its at.

jim put it on the screen for me
Wow. I'm actually blown away by this. This is so damn well themed in all regards - everything fits together! Even the bosses are literally kitchen appliances that are a "chef's enemy"; a popcorn machine, a microwave, and we rescue the foods from them so we can cook them "right". Fantastic vision, well executed. How have I never heard about this game?
omg i just put that together!! how creative and fun i love ir
what does this imply about hamburgers
@@DoomCabbit That one actually threw me off a little, a grill would have fit so much better. Hamburgers themselves are pretty high cuisine if done well.
the second boss was not a microwave, it was an oven, hence the door opening downard
I love how they're going back to the old days and just playing games randomly pulled from the shelf, It's very nostalgic.
Same, it really takes me back to a simpler time.
Its what we all want.
"The shelf"
For legal purposes
For all of the “put it on the screen” gags, I’m severely disappointed we were not graced with Burgie’s presence.

Hearing Arin’s happiness and enthusiasm for this game makes my heart happy
I know right ? It makes the video so much better. Don't get me wrong, I like angry Arin as much as the next guy, buy happy bubbly Arin is a nice breath of fresh air.
Reminds me of the old days. Now all I need them to say is "GET OUTTTA HEEEEEAA"
I don't know if it's super authentic.

@@jekblom123 He definitely likes it, he may amplify it up for show but then that state just becomes his norm after doing it a bit.
On the note of charming Japanese games no one remembers: I think you guys would enjoy a gameboy game called "Hammerin' Harry: Ghost Building Company". It feels a lot like this.
that name alone deserves to be a part of the Grump legacy!
Was about to say they could make a bit just out of that name haha
Gameboy? I thought it was for the NES!
@@Quetzen Panic Restaurant is for the NES, yes; but Hammerin' Harry is for the gameboy. Sorry if the formatting of my original comment confused the issue a bit.
@@nerdicorgi No, I've got vivid memories of playing Hammerin' Harry on the NES, it has sound bytes in it. Hilarious ones no less.
Hm, just did a quick search to see if you were right, and indeed there was a GB and a NES version. There were many games in the series apparently. There's a PSP game too, oh gosh.

Fun fact: This game is actually super valuable, my parents owned it when I was a kid and they sold it a few years ago to a collector for like $600. I definitely remember playing it when I was little, kinda wish we had kept it for the nostalgia factor!
Good for your parents knowing what they had!
So glad Arin has a lot of fun this episode. When The Grumps have fun, it makes a fun episode. And this game IS awesome, can't believe I never played it or heard of it before now.
Arin radiating positive enthusiasm is so rare on this channel that it deep cleans my pores, cures my depression, repairs my teeth, corrects my posture, fixes my sleep schedule, paid my bills, and bought me pizza and milkshakes.
This is one of the few super-rare nes games, along with Little Samson, that I’ve always wanted. They’re genuinely great but I can’t justify the cost.
Are you from 1992?
It's always a treat to see Arin "doesn't care for most things" Hanson experiencing pure joy over something new.
Just buy the Famicom versions, better art and the same game.
@@sammisabbie I wish I could go back and buy a bunch of copies of this and little Samson 😂
A game that I wanted them to play for a long time was "RIstar" for the Genesis. It was a big part of my childhood and I believe it's a Beautiful looking game with really smooth animations

That North American box art is an absolutely sales killer. I have no idea why so many companies selling NES games were like "It can't be cute like the Japanese one; we have to make it UNCOMFORTABLY REALISTIC."

Megaman box art: Hold my beer

Fun fact: In the original Famicom version of this game; the chef is actually a young man and not an old man. I don't know why it was changed.
that explains why he's young on the the japanese box art!
In America for a long time chefs were seen as older men to the general public, until food tv shows were able to dispel that stereotype. At least this is what I believe.
Honestly I think America got the better end of that deal. No adorable floppy mustache for Japan!

What an episode. Took me back to the days when:
A) The Grumps chose games based on how fun they could be instead of how many views they would get
B) Arin possessed genuine happiness and enthusiasm for his work
It also took me back to the days when I'd go to the video store and pick out a random obscure NES game to rent.

I wish they would take turns more often when playing single player games like this, makes them both more actively engaged with the game. And they enjoy themselves more instead of the usual Arin whining or Dan not really paying attention.
I second this
That would require them to stick to old games that were around when Dan was in to gaming. Otherwise we end up with Confused Dan becoming Disinterested Dan.
