Dear legend killer 1fan Jon knew author Ian Fleming. Jon was always an adventures type. So was he an inspiration for Fleming's most famous creation . From Michael from Yorkshire and proud of it .

Ah the Doctor who introduced the Silurians, Sea Devils, Sontarans and the Master. My third favourite behind Tom and Tennant.

Mine's always been Hartnell but recently Troughton's been my favourite (mostly because of the Two x Jamie pairing and all the fan fiction that goes with it to be honest..)

If It Wasn't For Jon Making Dr Who So Popular In The Early 70's, There Wouldn't Have Been A 4th Doctor....Or 50 years Now...The Best Doctor!!!

I don’t think any one of them is the best. I think most of them are equally the best. McCoy and Hartnell are still good but not as amazing as Troughton through Colin.

Pertwee was the first Doctor I got to see, back in the 70s...followed by Tom Baker. With no slight to any successor - and full acknowledgment of personal, nostalgic, prejudice - those two will *BE* the Doctor to me.

As an American i grew up watching reruns of doctor who. Some of us here in the usa at the time were abit behind with the series. The first doctor i saw was John Pertwee. He was brilliant. Charismatic, sharp witted, rugged and sort of a hermit like gadget man. From then on i was hooked. Although i am a huge tom baker fan, i owe my fandom to Johns doctor.hes my favorite of them

great video, Jon Pertwee was the man!! Basically the Doctor James Bond style. loved watching all his episodes. ive been stuck on the 4th doctor, last adventure in chronology i needed to watch was Horror and Fang Rock. But yeah, pertwwee rocked, and The Three Doctors is one of my favorites, because we get William Hartnell if for a brief moment advising the 2nd and 3rd Doctor.

I was born in 1985 and never a hardcore Dr Who fan. But it was always the Third Doctor I thought of - maybe the Fourth too... perhaps because Pertwee and T. Baker were the first colourised Doctor's and their opening themes stood out for me. As did the monster props of their era.
So as a child when I thought of 'Doctor Who' I immediately thought of Pertwee

He was expelled from many schools & graffiti'd "Go to Hell" in the toilets about the tutors after they gave him a shit role to act. (Greek Wind!)
What I love about the longevity of his stories is (unlike Tom who resorted to comedy) he played the role incredibly seriously. I think he lost that tenacity in later episodes but that was ok because he became very melancholy. Which suited his persona much more.
My favourite scene is in fact in The Mind of Evil. Ep 2, 1:41; where he almost dies from fear. When Jo Grant asks him what it was he saw, his response is utterly convincing. "Well sometime ago Jo I witnessed a terrible catastrophe. A Whole world just ... disappeared in flames."
This is stupendously direct writing, pointing out that the Doctor's greatest fear is in fact a selfless one. His greatest fear being the death of millions; foreshadowing for a real-life scenario as our planets resources diminish. And of course drawing from his experience of the HMS Hood; which was sunk by the German Battleship Bismarck shortly after he was transferred. All but a few survivors were wiped out.
Jon Pertwee's are some of the most re-watchable because he has this uncanny balance of authority, sadness, rage, selflessness, physical violence, & wisdom.
There aren't any Jon Pertwee's or Barry Letts of today. Kids need heroes. But we live in a time of social status, avarice, corruption, & opposition.
I feel for the current generation. Because everything looks, feels, & sounds fake. William Russell put it best; "The new series almost feels like nothing even remotely resembling its' predecessor. The characters seem to just 'exclaim' to one-another. It doesn't feel real in any sense".
Jon's era was extremely real lol!

  • @FreakyTeeth

    Three is so underrated.
He was the most surrounded by humans of the doctors on screen and the experience really mellowed him.
He seriously felt like a mystery solving hero who was heroic as a matter of feeling duty rather than someone who was heroic as a matter of insecurity as the future doctors become more and more so.
This is the doctor as the writers viewed him before the time war, the Valeyard and all the other stuff that really made him self-uncertain and self-derranged. He wasn't "the oncoming storm", "the lonely god", or the"idiot with a box".
The third doctor is childish yes, but he's not as selfish as he was in his first incarnation, nor as arrogant, nor as blindly idiotic, or as much of an adrenaline junkie (I don't actually know if Gallifreyans literally have adrenaline but you get what I mean) as his incarnations in Nu Who are often made out to be.
The third doctor is the doctor who is the most grounded on Earth in one time but he feels less like some infallible super-hero, and more like a genuinely heroic person who has limits and vulnerabilities and sincerely needs people to assist him, which make him seem relatable to us as the audience. It's good to see heroes bleed and struggle because doing so makes them seem spiritually strong for being willing to be heroic despite their pains, losses and perils.

The Jason King of Doctors? Or maybe the John Steed? Either way, the most stylish and perhaps the greatest in my view. The first four are the best anyway - Hartnell, Troughton, Pertwee & Tom Baker - truly classic and unrivalled by their successors.
