I find it interesting how different Keith plays with his European Quartet, in contrast to the American Quartet. Jarret played with an attention to space, and more silence with the American group, due to Saxophonist - Dewey Redman, Charlie Haden, and Ed Blackwell - not only being steeped in American Folk, and Blues - but sharing the "American Experience" - with all it's contradictions, violence, and spiritual striving. A Norwegian, a Swede, and a Dane are only going approach this in a more "Anthropological" way. Great Music was made by both Quartets, but for me as an American, who has experienced all the polarities of my culture - the older I get , the more I gravitate towards the American Quartet. It just seems more Authentic to me.
While I'll probably have Dewey Redman's solo on Eyes of the Heart played at my funeral, I think the output of that quartet is generally weaker than that of this group (which, incidentally, didn't include any Danes). And the idea that there's an American experience of music that is somehow more 'authentic' and involves greater 'spiritual striving' is just chauvinistic nonsense.
1976年11月に来日して、日本列島を縦断した、サンベアコンサート。その約2ヶ月前のライブです。
サンベアはソロ。こちらはカルテット。比較対象にはならないと思いますが……
I have been at this concert, and I know that it was recorded and transmitted via German-TV. Anyone has an idea how to get a copy of it. Thank you.
同時進行していたアメリカンカルテットよりも、このヨーロピアンカルテットの方が好きだったなぁ〜
ECMのアルバム『 My song 』は、私のフェバレットアルバムです!♡
I think the second track is not Spiral Dance, but another song that I don't know yet the name.
You're right ! Thanks...
The Discogs website references what appears to be a bootleg CD, and names track 2 as "The Heart Path".

Thank you for your feedback. I would like to make one correction : the drummer in the American quartet was Paul Motian, not Blackwell.

Esprimere una preferenza tra i due quartetti attiene esclusivamente al gusto personale, non al valore della musica.
