I saw a couple of interviews were Eddie Holland said that the reason they left is because they ask Berry for a record label deal, a subsidiary of Motown (most likely it would have been Hot Wax Records or Invictus Records) and Berry refused. I don't understand why Berry didn't just do the 50/50 venture with them. That would have bought in more recording artists, songwriters and producers, which would have gave Motown even more hits. Was Berry that greedy?
i met one of the holland brothers n 1980, had dinner at his house in the palmer woods area, one o the van dellas roz lived on my block when she signed with motown n the early 60's

How Gordy let Holland-Dozier-Holland get away after displaying their genius and success for years, will always confound me.

These three bros stayed here an kept on soul hit makin in da de they still ruled. The airwaves
and Motown was never the same after moving to Los Angeles. After moving there they started to sound like everybody else in L.A.
Gordy made the fatal mistake of moving Motown from Detroit to Los Angeles and the company immediately lost its distinctive sound after that
