Sometimes the screenwriters's desire overwhelms the other factors. I still think Root deserves better, not the death, not the so named "transcendence" , but the monogamy.
Well ever since root became a regular; the writers had planned to have her merge with the machine. But something unexpected happened, and Root fell in love with shaw. Arguably more than she loves the machine. And I think the writers didn't want to accept that
Ashely Corner fact is, wie can't be sure she is dead. Eben John Nolan said that they have something up their sleeve should it be renewed or rebooted again. I think Root staged her death personally.
It's a story arc as old as time; consider Launcelot's death in the camelot story, for example, or the death of Achilles. In an epic arc where the protagonist is helped by other heroes, the most puissant of those heroes always dies, and nearly always dies specifically to save or in service of the protagonist, because he/she believes in them. It's storytelling 101. Root had to die. But I'm still sad about it.

Thanks for sharing. Perfect tribute to all of Root's badassedness and wonderful moments. Great edit, good energy, perfect cuts. And I LIKE the track - it's bizarre, funny, slightly insane, and has good beats. Like Root, even though the lyrics don't match.
Amy Acker plays such a bad ass character. I literally struggle to pick a favourite between Shaw and Root. As well as the fact that they are hot to trot!
never created more badass character than root,i fall in love with here at the first time i saw here,i am on season 4 episode 4 and i just read that they killed root,well now i can guess why the rating fall in season 5 and they are no making season 6,they had to make here the main character but people make mistakes and jonathan nolan is one of them too,i dont want to watch person of interest anymore screw that

The writers also made it clear in interviews that she actually survived and that would have been revealed in a spin off or season 6 if there were enough support for either. By people stopping watching it, is what ultimately kills Root.

If you look closely for the clues, you can see that Root survives. 1) There were several episodes in that season that Root goes off on secret missions by herself to help the machine. 2) In one of those episodes, there was a rocket on her laptop. It was shot in a way that was clearly intentional. Then with John, there was also a rocket, so she was most likely there at John's end. 3) Shaw smiles at the end. The writers actually came out and said that they were hoping that the viewers would figure out that it was Root on the other side of that call. (Like no duh, she's the only one who can make Shaw smile...besides maybe Bear and food). So to answer your question, no, season 5 wouldn't have been that different if there was a guarantee for a sixth season with the exception of more filler episodes. (There were no filler episodes in season 5 because of the 13 episode restriction, and 13 episodes are a way of CBS hinting at the producers that they were most likely dropping the show).

@@AB-ul6ek If I remember correctly, it was the machine in the voice of Root who said that. Hence, besides the machine, no one else saw the body being dug up. The writers did say that Root is alive and John is dead dead, so believe it. Lol
