  • Scientists at the University of Washington are taking stem cell research to a new level. They're working to regenerate something people often take for granted: our teeth.
A multidisciplinary group of researchers from UW have unlocked the first steps toward regenerating teeth.
Researchers are sharing their findings at the lab affiliated with UW Medicine's Institute for Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine.
What appeared to be just a dark blob under a microscope, has the potential to restore human teeth, according to their research. Known as "organoids," they are the 3D, cellular forms that mimic the organs in our body, including teeth.

I will pay any amount of money for this if it actually works. I was savaged by a drill happy dentist when I was a kid/teen and have spent my entire life mutilated by excessive fillings and crowns. I have to go through all this pain and expense just to restore what was taken from me... It's psychologically horrible to deal with. People who are victimized by terrible dentists have no recourse. Hopefully this comes out within the decade.

      "the dental industry is corrupt."
I wonder if that is why it's taking forever for them to bring their products to market.
Paul Sharp at King's College is on this, and he was also on Tideglusib, which was 15 years ago. Never came out with any product.
The last time I emailed him 3 years ago he said he was still looking for financing.
What's going on? Why is this taking forever?

Yes dentists ruined my teeth too. I learned to never trust ANYTHING a dentist says without doing a lot of research first. Lesson 1: Never let a dentist remove material from your tooth.
I had already learned that lesson, and last time they removed material, they said they wouldn’t remove any material. So before they say “you need to remove material” and we accept. Now I don’t accept removing material anymore. So they say: "This won't remove ANY tooth material". Lo and behold, they removed material. I suffer the permanent consequences of allowing this every day. So there is your Lesson 2: NEVER trust what a dentist say without research first. Because they will LIE to put their hands on your tooth and ruin them.

No joke, @George. Don't think you are the only one. I have dental issues now, as I have gotten older. So, I sure hope that they can regrow enamel too. Hopefully, it will be Science to the rescue in the next few years. It's just too easy to have some type of dental issue (for me, it's grinding teeth), and I've wore down my enamel. It sucks.

@@nl5076 Well, thank you for providing a well-researched answer. But, I do have to probably agree with you that "more help" (like I want) is pretty far out. Yet, once Science goes down a certain path, some discoveries can occur or breakthroughs, so I'm not going to lose hope. Just (like you said) it's going to take time for the improvements to the current techniques and then the proving of it for the FDA's approval process, so it's not tomorrow's solution. But, I just wish Science / Dentistry could discover things faster and bring that change into practice faster.

He also developed a bio-scaffolding . Together these allow tooth regeneration in only 9 weeks !!! Perhaps we ought to contact him and inquire about human trials . I brush my teeth with just water after flossing and using tooth picks. Sometimes I swish some baking soda in my mouth and then brush gently with a soft tooth brush. When I feel that a cavity is forming, after brushing when I go to bed I put a piece of cheddar cheese in my mouth and let it release calcium phosphate. When I go to dentist and they do the x-ray she finds no cavity. Putting Cheddar cheese in the mouth helps with rebuilding the enamel. Try this. This will help with your teeth. They should work on both. If you have a tooth that can be regenerated, that would be better and less painful and cheaper and faster than yanking it out and growing or implanting a new one.
But if youre already missing teeth, or have to get one extracted, then year, we need new ones.
