Guess what? For years I known my heritage to be Black and Native American, without a doubt. When asked about my Japanese heritage, I simply replied that I had none. Well, my second cousin, and family historian, Clarence, heard this interview and call to informed me that he just recently discover, through another family member, that our family may have as much as 25% Japanese blood flowing through our veins. I am off to research this information. I will keep you posted. Let love rain down.
Whatever your ancestry is you are absolutely stunning. I mean sure you were beautiful back in the day, but that is nothing compared to now. Now you are a mega goddess. You are one of those women who stop ageing in their 30's and instead they get more beautiful each year. It's the big, wide eyes, broad cheekbones and taking care of your skin, There's a Danish video journalist named Iben Thranholm and she's got it too, you can tell that when she's 65 and she walks into a room full of people she will totally own it. My girlfriend is 55 and she's got it too (I am a guy) she just keeps getting more beautiful with no end in sight. Part of it comes from the inside too, none of you are obsessed over your beauty or your age and you are all humble and very genuine, and that inner beauty and calmness shine through big time. I LOVED the interviews too, you are again, another common factor, you are very talented at several different things, you've traveled a lot, your reality is much wider than most people's and yet what's your priorities? God and family... I am so glad I rediscovered you, my cat's name is "Boogie" and so I often sing the words to him when he's being silly , and finally I thought: I'm probably singing it wrong so I clicked on YT and "OMG, women playing guitar and bass in 1978, how did I miss this (I grew up in Mammoth Lakes and we had no TV service) and damn they are good, this is so cool, so I clicked and clicked and here I am :) Hope you get this, you brightened my rainy day Todd

"I remember so many people discouraging me...and for me to end up with a song that's number 1 ...that just goes to show do what you believe!" Great advice from someone who lived it.
At The Time when this Song came out Janice Johnson was one of the Baddest Bassist on the Planet. Her, Louis Johnson of the Brother's Johnson and Bernard Edwards of Chic were 3 Bad Bass Players.
It's funny how age changes us. When you were singing boogie oogie I was playing rock and blues. I did not care much for disco, however I was intrigued by you and the way you looked like you were truly having fun. Talent always has a way of shining through. I use to get teased because that song would stick in my head and I would go around humming it. The rest of the band would give me heck. It is nice to see you doing so well. Keep up the great work Janice!
I was 10 when Boogie came out and it's imprinted on my soul. Its Amazing 41 years later we can be sitting here hearing the amazing story behind that song, amazing how times flies and mysterious this journey of life is!
I don't know about You, but I'll be forever grateful to the people at the former Norton Air Base in San Bernardino, CA for inspiring the very talented JANICE - MARIE JOHNSON (and Perry L. Kibble...) to write "BOOGIE OOGIE OOGIE", back in 1978. It's one of my absolute favorite tracks from back in the day, and I'll be getting down to it until my last breath - and beyond...
I don't know if we can call this being at the right place at the right time with the right song ? And of course the talent takes the most part in this person. Thank You for your gift of music Ms. Johnson !

I'm surprised that there's only 25%, I would have guessed that one of the parents were full blooded Japanese. Beautiful and talented woman! I was born in 1974, Taste of Honey helped to develop my love of DANCE! Thank you for sharing your awesome talents! Blessings ALWAYS.
Super cool! I remember this song fondly being a young girl of 8 or 9 years old. And I thought she might just have Native American blood too. Awesome that she's got real talent. Love this interview! Love you Janice-Marie! Keep it funky!
Truth be told, most descendants of slaves are Native American. Some agent was paid to tell us we're Africans.By her own admission she claims she's Black, which tells me that she is not ashamed of being Black. Also early Asians were Black. They live in fear that one day they might wake up black.
