well, I'm sure you found the answer by now, but you have to provide the name of the constant to the function. He says it is used when you don't know the name of the constant, but that is because you should be getting the name of the constant from another source or you have it saved in a variable. eg: define("GREETING", "Hello"); $constant_name = "GREETING"; echo constant($constant_name);
