I admire your work.especially the pines.
I have tried so many times with collected pines,using soil from the place i took it also mixed with soil for outdoor plants from nurceries.after a while,about 3-4weeks their needles turn brown and at last the trees are dying.any suggestion for keep them in life?i am thinking of mixing outdoor soil and vermiculite......

you must use a 33% mix of pumice akadama and kiryuzuna for pines

Beautiful tree and masterful work. I see that the air layer was started in Spring when candles were extending and harvested perhaps in the Fall? Does it matter what season it is started or harvested? I would like to try this on my own Japanese white pine. Thank you!
