Life in Hong Kong | iPhone 13 Pro Max Cinematic & ProRes Video Test

- I have been using the iPhone 13 Pro Max as my everyday video camera, and here's a video I made using the ProRes recording mode on the iPhone's default camera app. All footages are shot handheld.
Color graded with FilmConvert Nitrate.
About my editing workflow with the iPhone ProRes files, it takes a really long time to transfer the ProRes files from my iPhone to my Mac. I have to transfer 280GB of ProRes files, and it took 2 hours for the transfer to be done. In average, it takes about 2-3 minutes to transfer a 2.5GB ProRes video from the iPhone with the Lightning to USB-C cable.
I hope Apple will finally make the switch to USB-C on the new iPhone 14. Also, I have to use the Image Capture app on the Mac to preview the video files and copy them to my Mac. It would be much better if there's a way I can just use Finder, and copy the files just like copying files from a SD card.
About the color grading, it's really good to have 10-bit color in the ProRes 422 HQ footages. I can recover highlights and shadows a lot, and if you choose to shoot Log with the Flimic Pro app, I guess there's even more flexibility to recover highlights and shadows. It's amazing how much color grading you can do with the ProRes files from the iPhone.
About the image stabilization (IBIS), I found the iPhone performs very well in stabilizing the shots. I shot this video totally handheld, and the walking shots look really steady, it's almost like the IBIS performance you get on the micro four thirds cameras like Panasonic GH5 and Olympus E-M1 Mark III.
About the ultra-wide angle camera, it's really useful to shoot with, especially in tight spaces and for landscapes. However, I suggest to only use the ultra-wide angle in outdoor daylight condition. There will be significant noise if you use the ultra-wide in indoor environment.
I look forward to Apple's next iPhone 14, if they are going to make the video features more PRO. But they really have to switch to USB-C for faster file transfers, which is very important for pro video shooters who are shooting ProRes on the iPhone.
This video is not sponsored by Apple. I bought the iPhone 13 Pro Max using my own money.

Incredible 😲
Thanks for watching!
If you have a macbook how does airdrop transfer times compare? I think Apple my try to push this route instead of usb-c
Airdrop will be ok if you are just transferring a few files, but if u are transferring more than 50-100 files, more than 100-200GB, I doubt Airdrop will transfer all the files without issues
soothing
can you share your colourgrading, its so cool thnks before
Beautiful cinematography, just a bit underexposed, probably something to do with the hdr editing
Thank you for watching! It's my first time editing HDR files, not sure if I did the color correction correctly
