I have mixed feelings about the movie adaptation of Logan's Run. Have you read the book? How do they compare? What are your thoughts?
Hi Marquita, thanks for putting out this Logan's Run video, good stuff as per usual! I think you've read some Phillip K. Dick, ‘Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?’ perchance? I believe that was 1968, must have been something in the air back then…oh yeah…it was marijuana 🤣! In some of his theological works (I guess ALL his works were theological) C.S. Lewis is critical of our modern (1950’s) culture of youth worship. Everyone must look younger than they clearly are ect. One could argue this is all Oscar Wilde's fault, that darn Dorian Gray! I grok the KVJ hat tip also with the chip in their right hands…Rev.13:16. And the 1984 nod to Big Brother in ‘The Thinker'.
Great universal theme of whether to go or stay. I'm a farm boy and can't imagine going myself, but all my black great grandparents left the South before the war to look for better futures here in Michigan where my grandmother and grandfather met. And even Grandma and Grandpa left Detroit in the 50’s to start this farm that I live on now. So I guess everyone has to make up their own mind. That's what great literature is here to help us with.
@dougirvin2413 yes I really enjoyed Do Androids Dream... last year. I read The Minority Report soon after because I was so impressed, PKD was very talented. 🤣 that's what they say about the 60s and 70s - Marijuana fuel art in all genres. Ahhh I grok😄 I had mixed feelings initially at the spiritual references that RAH used but I'm glad I gave his work a chance realizing the they were a nod to the heritage of humanity, our core beliefs, many universal across nations and ethnicities. I'm definitely going to read 1984 before the end of this month. Wow, you've got southern roots. My grandparents went out west (Cali) and north to Chicago but my mom came back down south and raised her kids. Did you decide to continue farming the land or sold some of it? I live in the county, but I'm on the outskirts of the rural community, very close to the city. I love it! Thank you for sharing your southern heritage - it's very rich heritage
