The stylistic matchup between Muay Thai and Japanese kickboxing is one of (if not the) best when it comes to pure striking
Thank you to ONE Championship for continuing to elevate these warriors on one of the biggest martial arts platforms in the world!
what a brutal rib kicks.. !! good gameplan from Petchtanong fighting in a distance..
Great gameplan from Petchtanong.
Split decision???
I think unanimous decision for petchtanong
Petch’s Left knee to Akimoto’s right ribs is what won this fight 😊
The left powerful southpaw roundhousekick didn't feel good on the rips too. After the second round his right side was destroyed. He did not have a working answer for that.
It was clearly unanimous. Smart fight by Thai fighter.
I was supporting Akimoto on this, but I have to say that they're no way that Petchtanong won by SPLIT decision! He dominated Akimoto through the fight
@@SilverScarletSpider He didn't find a clear way to deal with those knees Petch was throwing. He had the aggression, imo.
@@SilverScarletSpider being aggressive was his downfall, he just walked straight forward
@@SilverScarletSpider Not aggressive that was why he lost, He kept pressing forward and getting berated by the kick and the knees which kept him back he was having a hard time pressing forward.
@@SilverScarletSpider being aggressive is why he lost*
He ate 3 nasty head kicks?😂(all that smiling and making faces, anyone who knows, knows 80% of them do it when their hurt) thats not dominating a fight. 😂😂 get real.
That judge in favour of Akimoto is either blind, Japanese, or both !! 🤣🤣
He is porbably the judge from singapore because akimoto trains in singapore at evolve mma
When did that judge see Akimoto win ANY round????? Akimoto is a top striker but today he was owned.
The judge that scored that for akimoto should never be allowed to judge a fight again
How come we do get to know WHO that was??? I bet they are a j-w
It was a good decision.
@@guywilliams6569 It was Francis NG…😨😨😨
@@eventhorizon7234 Nah.
Akimoto is a new rise of One thats why they don't want to cut him out.
Even with that damaged rib, Akimoto still pressed forward. Kyokushin spirit right there
of course he have to continues to fight, what you expect him to do ? tell the ref I give up?
😂😂
@@majestytd you'd be cut in half
eating kicks is kyokushin spirit. serving kicks in muay thai spirit
@@nepalesenewar573 lol no. akimoto should have won and will win the rematch.
Clear win for Petchtanong, what's with the split decision ?
probably the singapore judge because akimoto trains at evolve mma which is in singapore
I totally agree. This fight was a clear decision win for Petchtanong. He definitely won 4 rounds to 1 in my opinion.
Since Akimoto's kickboxing is based on Karate, Petchtanong got it good by using the knees to counter forward pressure
Well it's not so easy for a Kyokushin Karate Blackbelt to easily win against a muay thai fighter! But atleast there were a less average of kyokushin karate blackbelt fighters who beat a muay thai fighter in a kickboxing match!
And for this, it wasn't easy for Akimoto to beat a muay thai fighter. but he will rebuild himself by training even more harder than he has ever trained before, just like the other kyokushin karate legends in kickboxing like Andy Hug!
@@gabbysanchez9910 Akimoto vs Capitan is a good example of that.
What went wrong with Capitan is that he's using mostly punches which is why Akimoto exploited lots of holes with his combos.
@@gabbysanchez9910 kyokushin can beat muay thai any day of the week if trained properly. proper kyokushin includes elbow, knees, throws, locks etc.
@@migueldiaz248 if you know Tenshin Nasukawa you will surely know how tenshin used a rolling thunder kick countless times in kickboxing which is the kicks that kyokushin karatekas always used it in their kumite. Not only did Tenshin Nasukawa used those kicks, but also any styles of karate he uses, but hiroki akimoto is still not as strong as Tenshin Nasukawa yet! But I believe he still has the chance to make it to the top as long as he has to be himself who focuses on the present time of learning new techniques of kyokushin karate styles instead of focusing on his loss from the past, he will rebuild himself and will soon win against petchtanong and bring back his Bantamweight Kickboxing World Championship belt!👊🏼
Akimoto was trying to strike with to much power full while Fergus was managed the fight with a master class kicks and knees. Congratulations to the booth fighter
Petchtanong's team for this match is pretty insane:
- Superbon (ONE Featherweight Kickboxing champion): game-plan strategist
- Nong-O (ONE Bantamweight Muay Thai champion): sparring partner #1
- Petchpanomrung (Glory Featherweight and RISE Super Lightweight champion) : sparring partner #2
- Diesellek (former Rajadamnern champion): pad holder, cornerman
- Rodtang (ONE Flyweight Muay Thai champion) : personal bodyguard
Ruby Typer.
There's also Yodpanomrung Jitmuangnon.
Wow, just add Petchpanomrung Kiatmuu9 and you gotta real party 🥳 oh wait, he was there, man that crew owns the world.
Probably best team
No one in K1 because Buakaw is still legend, and no one walks on Holy ground 😂
@@ChrisEnglishTimeJapan because k1 now only cheats to protect japanese boxer
Akimoto is a true warrior but Petchtanong made the better gameplan.
Man hiroki akimoto is a hard man
ye he got many hard kicks man
Nothing but respect for both fighters here, but that should not have been a split decision. Petchtanong clearly outstruck Akimoto in this one. Once the damage to the ribs had set in late in round 2, it was just a matter of time. Akimoto was a freaking tiger, but when that rib pain started to take away his ability to combo, his game plan sort of fell apart.
What a intelligent fighter petchtanong
LOL worst advice from Akimotos corner... Keep GOING FORWARD.. lol Keep eating the knees.
Very high level step and knee, middle kick combo,
Wow!!!
just two weapons, extremely effective
+ range control most importantly
Petchtanong fought the fight of his life here, he looked better than ever at 36 years old.

Congratulation👋👋👋Thai boxer the best in the world💪💪💪💥💥👍
Wow. Good Fight. I don't know why Akimoto keep pressing forward, that knee is eating him while his leg kicks are being checked.
Kyokyuskhin tough. He definitely needed to change game plan though.
I feel like all kyokushin fighters do is walk forward and get hit
@@koraegi In Kyokushin matches yes, but this is kickboxing. Not all fighters are like that.
Superbon and this fighter won their fights with very simple technics which neutralize fighters adept of dutch style. (Even Nong O in thaï fights use these simple technics).
Middle kick, knee, clinch to avoid punches, push kicks.
This stratégy was used by Buakaw in 2004 and after.
It still works.
In Thailand Muay thai Camp Their instuctor always analysis the fighting style and develop the counter technique over the hundred years (since ancient muay thai or muay boran founded) because they have many fighter and many style in Thailand for example If you must fight a puncher [Muay Mat] you need to clinch elbow and knee a lot in close distance and kick in middle - far distance If you fight a kicker [Muay Tae] you need to sweep or catch a kick and counter or pressure them by punch combo If you fight a knee master [Muay Kao] just dont let them clinch or come too close by push kick or roundhouse kick them and step back in other words Thai fighter has many guidebook for their standing fight

These guys are on another level 😮
Pech feels much bigger and had impeccable defence here. Despite moving backwards he was clearly in control of the entire fight. Judge who scored for Aki is a bit crazy.
Petch was just fluffier, not as lean
Esta como mínimo 6 kilogramos por encima de akimoto

Francis NG the judge that favored akimoto maybe an Anime fan, or love sushi alot.
Real hard to look at Akimoto's midsection by the 3rd round. Just brutal.
Yeah thats one of the worst I've seen from body kicks. Can't imagine how that must have felt
@@harlock321 inhaling must have been tough, but the next day it would have been even worse.
@@harlock321 It could have been the body kicks but I think it was the landing of those knees while Akimoto's momentum was coming forward that caused most of the damage.
Soooooo scary!
Turned it into Wagyu tatake!
Split decision: The judges were kicked on the head and couldn't judge and see properly .......
Petchtanong lost to Capitan but most people don't know that Petchtanong was a very short notice opponent for Capitan.
Petchtanong only has 4-7 days to train while Capitan was already in a camp for a month or more.
Capitan was originally scheduled to fight Petrosyan, Yodsanklai or Sittichai at Featherweight ( 154 lbs ) but after mister Boat ( the owner of Petchyindee Academy ) saw that Capitan was too out of shape to fight at 154 lbs against the elite there so they decided to make Capitan boil down to 145 lbs ( Bantamweight ) and so they quickly searched for an opponent there a few days before the fight and it was Petchtanong was answered the call.
Man i legit regret making that early assumption, that 400 fight experience served him well.
กลับมาดูกี่ทีก็สนุก ระดับอาจารย์ดักอาวุธ ดักแทง ซะเสียคนเลย
Great use of the knee.
For a guy who's lighting you up with rear leg attack after rear leg attack you can take a risk and turn your head 2 into a posting body 2. Time him trying to counter you and just shove him off while he's on one leg
No way split decision lol

Those knees were brutal.
Muay Thai is better than kyokushin
Fighters with kyokushin background have more succes in kickboxing and MMA than muay thai. Muay thai only good for muay thai rules.
Do you not know akimoto background? Aside from Kyokushin he also did muay thai.
Akimoto is a fighter and is fighting a fight. Petchanong is a sportsman and playing to win a game.
Did you see the right side of Akimoto?

Defensive masterclass by Petchtanong
akimoto should've thrown front kicks and came in on a angle.
Man, Thais are amazing at teeps so using a very classical Muay Thai strategy against a Muay Thai fighter with over 400 fight is not a good idea
@@ryu3019 yeah but Petchtanong had no answer to them and kept catching the kick. He was going to get penalised for it if he caught anymore, so would have been very good decision strategically for Akimoto to throw more.
He also has a great ability to mix up the height of his front kicks and send them straight up to the chin.
petchtanong kept throwing knees the front kicks would've made him fall or back into the cage wall
@@chambersofmadness3730 yeah I wondered why he sticked with his usual combos. Clearly the Thai waited for him to come close to knee him or round house kick him from distance, he really didn't need to do any more to take Akimoto out other than keeping distance.
I feel its more like a skill issue, he is not that good with the front kicks
Muay Thai footwork is better than kyokushin footwork
Of course because Kyokushin is a copycat of Muay Thai later on.
How well can someone throw a knee strike..
The Thai guy: yes!
That Japanese will never be a champion again. He should be thinking about his retirement.
Those knees … my God 😳
Akimoto doesn't know how to block kicks, Muaythai easily blocks Karate's kicks
That side of Rib cage of akimoto turned Purple.Omg thai left kick is torturing akimotos body.
The Muay Thai roundhouse kick is the strongest, and super fast akimoto couldn't even react, people who say that the Thai kick is slow are very delusional.
อยากให้เสริมหมัดบ้าง แบบนี้คู่ต่อสู้ฝึกรับลูกเตะมา จบเลย
After round 2 it was pretty much established that Petchtanong was gonna win.
Big Akimoto fan, I think he's superb. However, he just didn't have an answer for Petch's clinch game here and this was definitely not a split decision lol. Petch was so fast coming in to the clinch, powering his strike home using knees and then exiting, it was perfectly executed. I have no idea why Akimoto's corner were not advising him to either parry/stay out of the way or look to catch and sweep so that it dissuade's Petch from throwing those KO style knees. He didn't do enough to punish Petch for throwing his main weapon. It would have been a very different fight had this happened.
I was very surprised given how Akimoto had handled previous thai opponents in contrast to his performance tonight. But what also must be understood is that as elite as all these guys are, sometimes on the night it's not your night. Illness, injury, personal problems, lack of sleep etc. life doesn't stop and fighters cannot be perfect all the time. I sincerely hope Akimoto comes back much stronger from this as he really embodies everything great about martial arts.
Petch should have taken the victory here with all judged scoring in his favour as he clearly outworked Akimoto and did way more damage. What was good to see was that he didn't manage to break Akimoto or get into his head per se. I'm most disappointed with Akimoto's corner and how they did not have an answer for Petch's clinch and knees which was the bulwark of Petch's strength in this fight.
Overall, great display of techniques and a good championship fight. 👏🏻
👍 Good Comments 🇹🇭
@@fuckzop 👍🏻
How could he punch when Petch kept him at a kicking rang, with flying knee and devastating kicking. Akimoto had no answer for this fight whatsoever.
This isn't a Muay Thai fight. Under kickboxing rules, throws and sweeps are not allowed. One thing that he could've done was to teep Petch away and wait for an opportunity to follow up with kicks.
But then it's easier to say than done as Petch was evasive and circling around while waiting for a chance to strike with roundhouse kick or close up the distance with the deadly knee.
@@Scar_knightt Thanks, I understand that and how scoring works. My point was that one way or the other, Akimoto needed to dissuade his opponent from using the techniques that were allowing his opponent to dominate the fight. His corner should have had the right observations and advice to do that.
Why split decision? That judge was blind?
ถึกจริงญี่ปุ่นคนนี้ ซัดกันตรงๆแพ้ความถึกแน่ๆ ต้องเล่นเชิงแบบนี้ สุดยอดครับพี่เพชรทนง
Man akimoto should fire his corner! Gave him the worst advice. Felljng him to just go forward shen his opponent is driving knees up the middle abd to the ribs. Never gave him any appropriate adjustments at any point. Kept telling the same advice ths whole fight. Never asked him for faint to deas out the counter knee nor tell him to teep kick to the chin nor dide they tell him to circle to the fight and attack, on the angle. He should have bee pumping a jab before the right hand and they never told him to fire the right straight down the middle instead of looking to land the hook first. It's actually crazy how he couldn't adjust when he knew his opponent had two main power weapons the step through knee and the left body kick. He should have bee light on the feet hopping in and out as to make it mors difficult to know when the right is coming after the hab. Didn't see any use of a solid jab. And these Thai fighters only ever come straight in always Never utilise good footwork in order to hit angles that are hard to counter and onky give the option of trying to defend. Akimoto can b a great fighter if he gets a better trainer to teach him the intricacies of high level iq striking and set up footwork.
What that judge was looking at that fight wasn't close happy that man didn't get rob he fought a good fight
I’m sorry, but I’m 100% convinced that Muay Thai is superior to kickboxing. Petch just made it look so nice!
Great Match !
Petchtanong was smiling at the beginning until he tasted them leg kicks.
He checked 98% of the leg kicks…
Five round and akimoto get hard like that in the first round ? 😂
The other dude is probably from thai boxing, the first round is always for check
Akimoto's accurate & powerful left round-house kicks is something else with which finally led him to his triumph over this strong Thai boxer in my assessment. Btw, if the elbows were allowed in this fight, there is no doubt in my mind that Petchtanong would have won. I wonder if anyone agree w/ me?,,,,,,(02/17/23)

Petchtanong = father of Akimoto.
Akimoto is lucky that against Capitan the biased ref did everything to mess with Capitan ( warnings and yellow cards ) or else Capitan would of KOed Akimoto especially seeing how Akimoto couldn't do anything to defend against the knees of Capitan.
I don't think so, Akimoto would have won anyways. He had a lot of hits that connected, especially towards the end.
@@ILoveElectroAndHouse He only managed to connect near the end because the ref messed with Capitan by warming him and yellow carding him for no reason earlier.
Akimoto would have been KOed earlier by all those knees.
@@ILoveElectroAndHouse Hahaha No.
Lmfao Muay Thai fan boys are super cringe and I can say that without shame after training both KB and MT. Akimoto is a worldclass Kboxer he just needs a more reliable strategy against a mastermind like Petchtanong who won via Strategy and IQ, not better skill. Akimoto can win a rematch if he has better cornermen who this time idiotically told him to keep pressing rather than switch angles and use more dynamic striking, which Kickboxers are better at than Thai boxers.
No se que pelea viste tu pero yo vi claramente como akimoto contragolpeaba a capitán
Akimoto didn't have a very good game plan....... so many missed opportunities for a head kick KO/TKO but rarely threw it.
