Newbie here! I’ve been watching different Heartstopper reactions and stumbled upon yours and absolutely loved your reaction and the community you have here.
Thank you for bringing light to the issue with mostly having lesbian couples and not enough gay men couples. I've realized that for a while, so glad you talked about it!❤️
exactly, us lesbians need representation ofc but the whole community does too, like aroace, bigender, genderfluid, etc, they arent really as acknowledged in any community, even the lgbtq community.
Gay men do get representation but what I found is it feels like 3-5 season shows happen with about 5-10 years apart between the decent TV shows, first I watched was QAF then think shameless had a bit of something, of course love victor, young royals and this, so know I'm basing it on English ones, takes me 3-4 times as look to watch skam France one
@@mlee6050 I’m talking about the fact that mlm representation has not been shown nearly enough as lesbian representation. We are starting to get lots more of that now, but not for a long time. I think it does sadly have to do with straight men’s objectification of women and women relationships. While male and male relationships are not appealing to the straight male gaze. I’m glad that times are changing, but the changing has only really kickstarted in the past couple years. For a long time it was a lot of lesbian representation in media. We still have a long way to go, but the progress so far is amazing!

huh, what you said about wlw relationships in animation is so interesting to me! i don't really watch much animated stuff and i feel like mlm relationships have a lot more focus and representation when it comes to live-action media, so hearing it's the other way around in animation was kinda shocking. i wonder why

I’m a trans guy who identified as a lesbian for years before my transition started and then I was like ‘no I’m a straight guy’ and now I’m like ‘oh wait maybe men tho??’ and I’m in my mid twenties and still figuring this stuff out and it’s just super reassuring to see good gay rep with men because it is kind of lacking as a main pairing in shows of any kind and I dunno it’s just nice and I appreciate you for being so sweet and supportive of all the LGBT+ community and not only the part that applies to you cuz I think there’s a bit of a thing that men just inherently suck and maybe I’m following the wrong people on social media but it makes me sad to see stuff about men being bad by default. I understand where it comes from (toxic masculinity to start) but it’s still sad. Anyway, this might not make much sense but thank you for making me feel like I’m alright for just being a dude who may also be into dudes. Again, not sure if I was too clear here but you’re a nice bright spot on YT and I’m glad I subbed to you. Side note: love the hair colour. I’ve been blue and green and now I am debating purple

Thanks for the recognition of underrepresentation of gay men on camera. It's a US specific problem. It becomes really obvious when you look at how many imported shows (skam and skins being two great examples) have their gay male characters turned into lesbians in the US version. I love the authentic representation of this show and cannot decide which makes me more happy. The trans or the bi male representation.
I've been watching people review HS for days now and I think your video is my favorite so far. One if the biggest reasons is because you called what Ben did what it truly was: assault. Don't see many people talking about it, others even try to justify what he's done to Charlie by saying he's closeted and confused and trying to figure things out, etc. And that's just.... NO. Being a confused teenager still in the closet does not justify you forcing yourself into someone. Also you talking about Ben at the end? Hard same @ everything. Looking forward to your next videos. I really liked that they showed that assault not only happens in straight couples, it sadly happens on the queer community too. So even tho it was awful to watch I was like THANK YOU

EEEEEEEEE I've been meaning to check this out. The author of the original books also wrote a book about an AroAce character that... well, being AroAce myself... was super cool to read. Only recently found out another of her works was adapted into a Netflix series, and am super hyped for you to watch it.
I really felt Charlie, cuz when I was on high school, there was this girl who was my "girlfriend" but in front of our crew mates, she ignore me, and tell me awaful things, and when a friend of her discover us, she break up with me but she was like "don't get the wrong idea, I'm not even gay"

You're completely right about the lack of male/male representation in animation. It's this weird situation because I find that healthy wlw relationships are represented less than mlm in live action, but it's the reverse in animation. That's one reason why I love Heartstopper so much because you see such a great spectrum. As for the bit where Ben cut Charlie off- yes! I felt they really made is come off as an issue rather than cute.

I just found my new favourite reactor! I’m new to the channel, hi! I’m also trans and almost 40. I was Charlie in high school, came out at 14 and life was hell. I also dated a Ben, classic narcissist. Seeing him and his behaviour really triggered me and took me back to some bad times. But this show is everything to me, it WRECKED me. Even now, I still haven’t found my Nick. But here I am at almost 1am and have to work in 5 hours but don’t care, on to your next video! 💕🏳️⚧️🍂
I finished both the Netflix show and got caught up with the comic in 2 days, and yet here I am rewatching the show through multiple reaction videos just because I’m not ready to let it go.
The phone thing depends on the school, some are stricter than others. My school was pretty lenient and as long as you weren't letting it become a distraction you could listen to music with headphones during study.
as a teenager that's figured out im a trans gay guy this show is so important to me. it's just so nice seeing just two dudes being in love. like!! that's me!! it's just so nice feeling represented
1:40 oh yeah totally! i haven't seen many mlm couples that are actually canon and not just ships in the fandom! so i get happy when i see shows like this!!! i don't watch live-action much either.. but i think the only one i can think about is "julie and the phantoms" on netflix. one of the main characters, alex, has a boyfriend?/someone who mutually likes him back. he's gay but it's not made into a big deal and is comfortable with who he loves. it's really nice. the show isn't centered around romance but i love it, still!!!! :D it has disney channel vibes tho hehe cause it's directed by kenny ortega but yeah
I love this show so much despite not being into live action things as well (excluding Marvel stuff). As a bi guy (more specifically biromantic ace) I'm glad there are characters like Nick and Charlie (although he's gay, but still). They make me feel more seen unlike other shows. I'm glad sapphic relationships exist for the same reason, but it's about time that also mlm relationships have a representation like this
I’m a pansexual female and when I told my grandmother she said “You are no longer my granddaughter, f@990t” I left with my mom and dad crying, I was afraid to tell my grandfather but when I did he was so supportive. I was so glad that my grandfather was so supportive, I loved my grandmother so much. She used to teach me how to draw and I would stay with her during the weekends and my grandfather would come by once in a while to her apartment. (They have different apartments). Since, my grandmother apologized after 2 years of it happening and we visit once a month.

I love how you tell a few personal stories and how much you are into this and love male gay representation even though you are lesbian and also what you say I really feel at the end it was the first time i actually really saw something from queer media really and it changed my life by just seeing such a wholesome gay guy romance, it is so important to see represented, it means a lot, I am out since a long time but I think to get more hope and optimism that you find the right one, it's also important to have a couple in media that you can see as the ray of hope and a couple you can identify with and that you really like, also to feel more comfortable with your sexuality so i love this show to my heart and this reaction is really great :)

I’ve seen plenty of heartstopper reactions and yours is def my fav!!! So glad we finally have a cliche, super fantastical, butterflies in the stomach type of teen romance for gay youth. One thing that always bothered me is how shows and movies that revolve around LGBT+ themes in general always end up being so tragic. Wish I had this show when I was younger. Sure it’s too good to be true but it’s nice to see. Gives me hope
Heartstopper is one of my favorite shows and yes I’m just watching your channel because of heartstopper. I think you should do love why action shows to nine year old is also a new young Royals is another good show as well with gays.
I've been reading Heartstopper for years. I was so excited when Alice first announced it was getting picked up by Netflix! And the actors casted are perfect!
I agree that there hasn't been as much gay male representation. I wasn't planning on watching this, but the two main characters are adorable, and I'm glad you're watching, too.
Hey! this is my first video I've watched by morgan, I don't know what I'm getting myself into. I know their friends with Elijah and Mosco and that's it. I saw they reacted to heartstopper so I just had to start watching them.
This episode proves a valid point in real life, some people won't stop until you make them. If you say no and they leave you alone, don't do anything to them. If they continue to assault you, you have the right to defend yourself.

Queer people in general, especially women, are very oversexualised in media. I can't remember the last time I saw a healthy relationship involving a queer woman in a movie or show. It's why I appreciate heartstopper so much and I know you will really start to love it as you get through the episodes.
As a straight guy who loves your videos because you have great reactions, I completely agree on the disproportion of male gay relationships vs female gay relations in popular media. There needs to be more male gay couples because while i enjoy looking at lesbian relationships more because i am straight, I am not grossed out by male PDA as much as some other guys probably are.
Adorable! As for preferring animation over live action, "Is this real life? is how it's going to be forever?!" But yeah, Morgan, ur right. We need better representation of "gay, male couples" in media and this was a good example of it. For the most part that I've seen, same-sex Male couples in LA tend to use for comedic effect or "A very special episode". Essentially, they're either the punchline or the target of the day. Representation like such kinda kept me from coming out as I grew up. Granted, that was just the kind that I grew up with, hopefully others had better. But point being, Morgan isn't too far off. All in all, an adorable watch, certainly one for all of us lol.
I know you said you probably won’t react to more live action shows, but if you like Heartstopper, I highly recommend Our Flag Means Death (aka “the gay pirate show” if you’ve seen that floating around social media the past month) if you want to watch an amazing diverse and queer show with a canon MLM romance between the main leads (the creator of the show literally called it a romcom). There are 5 more confirmed queer main characters in the show and one of them is canonically nonbinary. I’ve never seen a live action show with such well written and normalized queer characters before. And the best part is there is no homophobia or transphobia in the show’s universe, just like with The Owl House! The queer characters are just allowed to exist. I’d love to see your reaction to it!
Noooo I’m not…watching this show and it’s sequel for the third time, that would be…crazy 😅 I am SO excited to watch your reactions to this show! I found season 1 last year and quickly fell in love and then season 2 came out last week and it became my comfort show
also, a lot of people (myself included) had relationships in young adulthood that were more painful and unhealthy and destabilizing than being single would have been for them, so SINGLE KID HIGH FIVE I like that saying, 'dating someone has to be an improvement on your great life, unattached, to be worth it' relationships in and of themselves aren't necessarily good; Im delighted you didn't waste your time on a 'Ben' woman relationship
My starlight my story is when I start watching. You should also start watching Riverdale. There is also lesbians in the show and gays in the show as well back to my story I found out I was black and girls. I wasn’t dance when I was in high school on my senior year, and I danced with a lot of my friends, new friends and I found one and one of the girls Was one of my best friends and dance and then I started having feelings for her. Her name was Daniella feeling feeling I started liking her and it got a little bit awkward. I never told her I liked her, but probably will tell her one day, one day in the future, I came out to My friends and I was lesbian. I came out to my parent to my mom I came out to my family most of my family and my boyfriend as well even Ana💕 I like girls I’m still a boy who besides me who I am that’s my story and my life
An interesting story from when I was in high school about being arroace I didn't know what arroace was at the time but I knew I had autism so I just ran it down to it's just my autism but there was this one kid in school and I'm going to say what he had but he had a disability and he was trying to go out with me and trying to ask me and problem was everyone around me felt sorry for him or something just wanted me to go out with him and I genuinely didn't want to so one day at the school entrance he knelt down on one knee and said will you go to the dance with me and I politely said no because that made me extremely uncomfortable but I swear every teacher that day was upset with me like they all gave me a dirty look it was horrible thankfully there were some teachers that we're okay that I rejected him

Within live action (and especially Netflix) shows, I can think of a number of shows with two guys as a prominent couple (e.g. this, Young Royals, Skam, Sex Education, Looking, Schitt’s Creek). Does anyone have any recommendations for live action shows with two women as a prominent/main couple?
This is a school in Britain, so maybe things are more loose in America. Phones at most schools besides preparatory schools in America are allowed. I am happy to take any criticisms or corrections from those from Britain.
As someone who consumes more live-action queer media, I find it interesting that wlw is the more commonly found coupling in animation, as I find the opposite for the media I consume. Especially within Asian media, the BL community is vast and while it can be quite problematic it has taken leaps and bounds in the past couple of years. Ironically, much as wlw can be more popular because men enjoy it or find it sexually appealing, the same can be said for BL as the majority of originating stories are written by women. Recently however, specifically in the past year, I have noticed that there has been more emphasis on LGBTQIA+ rights in these shows (specifically for Thai BLs which is a very large industry) as opposed to just fetishizing the couples with no rhetoric regarding the fact that marriage equality is still not a thing in almost all of Asia. Heartstopper is the best though, it really gives you a look at the struggles of coming into your identity, without the needless pain and drama that most of these coming-of-age shows feel the need to include.
Eventhough it's on pricey HBOMax, gotta mention Our Flag Means Death. Very loosely based on real-life Gentleman Pirate Stede Bonnett, and his possibly romantic relationship with the legendary Blackbeard (played by none other than Taika Waititi).

it was the first time i actually really saw something from queer media really and it changed my life by just seeing such a wholesome gay guy romance, it is so important to see represented, it means a lot, I am out since a long time but I think to get more hope and optimism that you find the right one, it's also important to have a couple in media that you can see as the ray of hope and a couple you can identify with and that you really like, also to feel more comfortable with your sexuality

So glad we finally have a cliche, super fantastical, butterflies in the stomach type of teen romance for gay youth. One thing that always bothered me is how shows and movies that revolve around LGBT+ themes in general always end up being so tragic. Wish I had this show when I was younger. Sure it’s too good to be true but it’s nice to see. Gives me hope

Heartstopper is one of my favorite shows and yes I’m just watching your channel because of heartstopper. I think you should do love why action shows to nine year old is also a new young Royals is another good show as well with gays.

Queer people in general, especially women, are very oversexualised in media. I can't remember the last time I saw a healthy relationship involving a queer woman in a movie or show. It's why I appreciate heartstopper so much and I know you will really start to love it as you get through the episodes.

As a straight guy who loves your videos because you have great reactions, I completely agree on the disproportion of male gay relationships vs female gay relations in popular media. There needs to be more male gay couples because while i enjoy looking at lesbian relationships more because i am straight, I am not grossed out by male PDA as much as some other guys probably are.

But yeah, Morgan, ur right. We need better representation of "gay, male couples" in media and this was a good example of it. For the most part that I've seen, same-sex Male couples in LA tend to use for comedic effect or "A very special episode". Essentially, they're either the punchline or the target of the day. Representation like such kinda kept me from coming out as I grew up. Granted, that was just the kind that I grew up with, hopefully others had better. But point being, Morgan isn't too far off.
All in all, an adorable watch, certainly one for all of us lol.
I know you said you probably won’t react to more live action shows, but if you like Heartstopper, I highly recommend Our Flag Means Death (aka “the gay pirate show” if you’ve seen that floating around social media the past month) if you want to watch an amazing diverse and queer show with a canon MLM romance between the main leads (the creator of the show literally called it a romcom). There are 5 more confirmed queer main characters in the show and one of them is canonically nonbinary. I’ve never seen a live action show with such well written and normalized queer characters before. And the best part is there is no homophobia or transphobia in the show’s universe, just like with The Owl House! The queer characters are just allowed to exist. I’d love to see your reaction to it!

My starlight my story is when I start watching. You should also start watching Riverdale. There is also lesbians in the show and gays in the show as well back to my story I found out I was black and girls. I wasn’t dance when I was in high school on my senior year, and I danced with a lot of my friends, new friends and I found one and one of the girls Was one of my best friends and dance and then I started having feelings for her. Her name was Daniella feeling feeling I started liking her and it got a little bit awkward. I never told her I liked her, but probably will tell her one day, one day in the future, I came out to My friends and I was lesbian. I came out to my parent to my mom I came out to my family most of my family and my boyfriend as well even Ana💕 I like girls I’m still a boy who besides me who I am that’s my story and my life

An interesting story from when I was in high school about being arroace I didn't know what arroace was at the time but I knew I had autism so I just ran it down to it's just my autism but there was this one kid in school and I'm going to say what he had but he had a disability and he was trying to go out with me and trying to ask me and problem was everyone around me felt sorry for him or something just wanted me to go out with him and I genuinely didn't want to so one day at the school entrance he knelt down on one knee and said will you go to the dance with me and I politely said no because that made me extremely uncomfortable but I swear every teacher that day was upset with me like they all gave me a dirty look it was horrible thankfully there were some teachers that we're okay that I rejected him

As someone who consumes more live-action queer media, I find it interesting that wlw is the more commonly found coupling in animation, as I find the opposite for the media I consume. Especially within Asian media, the BL community is vast and while it can be quite problematic it has taken leaps and bounds in the past couple of years.
Ironically, much as wlw can be more popular because men enjoy it or find it sexually appealing, the same can be said for BL as the majority of originating stories are written by women. Recently however, specifically in the past year, I have noticed that there has been more emphasis on LGBTQIA+ rights in these shows (specifically for Thai BLs which is a very large industry) as opposed to just fetishizing the couples with no rhetoric regarding the fact that marriage equality is still not a thing in almost all of Asia.
Heartstopper is the best though, it really gives you a look at the struggles of coming into your identity, without the needless pain and drama that most of these coming-of-age shows feel the need to include.
