I'm glad Sunrise took over; we got two supposedly blurays and they were NOT bluray, HMV was a ripoff!~ Probably why it closed.

Sales per square footage. DVDs are compact, storable. Order, pay for online, pickup at store... such they could have done? Shockingly, HMV never sold keychains or t-shirts emblazoned with that historical logo, HMV.. I say historical, because most do not recognize the letters stood for His (or Her) Master's Voice... and their official company logo was an image of a dog staring at a phonograph record. .. In pink.. HMV most likely stood for Her Master's Voice... I thought it was "high art" but the company never capitalized on it. .. Money left on the table... the music business.. it is a lottery mentality now. The London School of Economics taught Mick Jagger stated in an interview that the odds of a band now making millions is astronomically low, compared to the early days, when no matter how bad you were, you could through clever marketing, move sales... Movies. All art is political. The US is beginning to look as crazy as North Korea. Educate yourselves. So that you be less susceptible to indoctrination, brain-poisoning, mind-dirtying, et cetra.

halfhumanhalfzombie People still like vinyl. Downloaded music can't be autographed, like CDs or vinyl can.

Yeah Vinyl is great, your notion will not kill off CD's and that for sure. No other places had a great selection of DVD's and Blu-Ray like HMV and hopefully their stock and ordering is just as great.

halfhumanhalfzombie They said when they made the announcement that they would also be selling DVDs, but would have more focus on music.

Sunrise was dead and now their coming back to buy dead HMV, this can't end well.

HMV was mismanaged. They devoted it seems a third of their floor space to books and comic book merchandise and posters and electronics - stuff that people could get elsewhere.. I never saw anybody buying any of that stuff, although I did buy a pair of headphones... The point is, it was slow moving... they should have stuck with CDs and DVDs. But music is very MP3 now, downloadable. So, maybe they should have got rid of the CDs too? DVDs make sense, however. .. Because I think most people want to see a movie on a stationary screen rather than attempt to eat and hold a tablet at the same time. And scrolling through a Netflix menu is an awful dizzy experience. But it would seem the ruling elite do not want persons, or families, to have libraries, books (personal) or DVDs (personal, social). Technology affects how persons relate to each other. If you assume that they wish to destroy the Judaic concept of family, the way the technology is changing and the laws and policies with respect to how information is transmitted, makes sense, and the changes seen, and yet to come, predictable. .. that said, have you ever wondered how some stores are able to pay rent? Vitamin shops.. stores that sell knives... weird. That said, see movie, Equilibrium, for an idea of how bad things might get. Totalitarian societies hate artists, promote censorship, and also get rid of "accurate labels", like PG-13, or "Approved by the Comics Code Authority. Freedom of Choice, is a hallmark of free societies.

I loved it when they had Video Games. Sucks no-one else bought enough as I had.

halfhumanhalfzombie Agreed. Unfortunately I was quite young at the time and thus did not have a job or $ to buy games. Otherwise I definitely would have bought games from them.

+puppymolly123 Yes, definately. I remember they had PS2, PS3, Xbox360, Wii and psp games and consoles. That's a shame they discontinued

Sunrise needs to get DVDs and obscure content and anime. I still buy anime and Asian films on dvd.

You go, Doug. I’m a weekly visitor to your Sunrise here at the WEM in Edmonton. Thank you for believing in the joy of music and us true music fans/collectors. As long as you have your stores, you will have my (very regular) business.
