TOBY Carvery ALL YOU CAN EAT Breakfast for £5.99 HOW BAD CAN IT BE?

- I reviewed the Toby Carvery All You Can Eat Breakfast just after the lockdown. However we all know that things were not great back then and many businesses were short staffed and I have had lots of requests to go back and review their All You Can Eat Breakfast for £5.99 again as apparently it's great value for money. So I thought I'd return, I mean how bad can it be right?

For £6 quid it looks tremendous value ...
I agree. I think the price has been somewhat overlooked
We have a Toby Carvery down the road from our office. Every now and then the company pays for us to go eat breakfast there so I get their moneys worth and have as many breakfasts as I can at the same time. (no productivity for the rest of the day as I usually just sit there making zombie noises).
Been a miserable summer. Just when I hoped there would be good weather to dry my clothes on the washing line and I could make a dent in my massive electricity bill, it rained for two months straight 😐
Its 5.99. Good value for a family. Well done Lee. Yorkshire pudding on a breakfast 😍
"Pretentious" mushrooms. Haribo eggs. What do you expect for £5.99? Not one of your better reviews in my opinion.
All you can eat? I would love to see BeardMeatsFood have a go for the LOLz at their faces.
BeardMeetsFood and Leah Shutkever would have a field day there
My money is on leah ..
If you went there and forgot your bicycle helmet - just pop your Yorkshire pudding on your head for protection. And yes - a Haribo egg indeed
WOAHHH !!!! what is goin on with the yorkshire pudding on a breakfast😮😮😮😮ive never seen that ever🤢
Fill up on meat and eggs leave the carbs until you are full you can usually stuff some beans and hash browns in at the end
Mister Macmaster in this world of over priced fayre & shrinkflation this breakfast for £ 5.99 ya can't argue with that being value for money & it was pretty decent food too so it's gotta be 10/10 especially for the value aspect 🎉
Never had a problem with the one near me. Then again I don’t have a Yorkshire or the hash browns, usually have two eggs and always been ok. Their pricing certainly attracts the punters.
At the price I wouldn't complain too much. In Cornwall you will pay that just for a coffee
Regarding the "Haribo" egg, I always avoid them on buffets unless I spot they're fresh out, otherwise I go for scrambled if they're available!
It depends where you go it must do because when I go the bacon and sausage are brilliant the eggs and beans arnt always great I’ll be honest but everything else is also always okay.. what you have to think as well is you can have as much as you want for the money you pay it’s not just one plate get all you want so for £5.99 how can you ever complain I don’t think you can but that’s me
Nothing wrong with it, just being picky for the sake of it.
Give me your address I'll Fedex it to you. :0)
My local Toby has pancakes and black pudding sometimes. £5.99 still reasonable compare to a cafe prices.
100% standard catering sausage... You can see it when you cut it and a chain like Toby wouldn't be getting anything else. Come on Lee you've had enough breakfasts to know this....
Lol. That's not standard catering sausage. Look at the end. No poodles willy there.
All you can eat for 5.99, how can anyone moan? Trick is don't have the fried eggs, ask at the counter for scrambled and they cook it fresh! Their breakfasts are miles better than their dodgy roast dinners with the chewy meat, been sick on my last two visits. Why didn't you chose the breakfast gravy?
The secret is to save a couple of quid and just have the veg and you can have 2 yorkies as well
Try the breakfasts at Hollybeck garden centre cafe Southwell, 2 x full English breakfasts for £12.50, freshly cooked from an independent - great value and great food. Take your daughter!
Stopped going to Toby a long time ago. Never enough customers to keep the food turning over so, like you found, food just sits under the lights and dries up. Great vid as usual 😊
Those mushrooms look like they had been dry cooked under a grill 😬
Personally I would have had 2 yorkies, filled with beans, bacon and sausage, with an egg on top of each.
6/10
Yorkshire puddings are very nice but to put one on a breakfast is demented.
Cheese, Onion & Potato Pie
Onions and potatoes in a creamy cheese sauce, encased in shortcrust pastry, with baked beans and gravy. Served with your choice of chips or mashed potato, all for £9.49 at the Westgate Farm in Edinburgh, I’ve not tried the pie myself yet
Yorkshire pudding ,no way, hash brown s maybe, what has happened to my favourite fried bread.😊
Used to go for the breakfast with the ex and was lovely breakfast start with the it went downhill. Haven't been for 4 years though when it went downhill. Don't knock the Yorkie pud on a breakfast till you try it 😊. Taking my daughter Friday for a carvery as kids eat for £1.
You're spot on regarding timing your visit
I work in haulage and the golden rule is NOT to get a breakfast after 9.30
Everything is dried up and you're paying the same price for dried up inedible cardboard
This especially applies to service stations
OMG Lee😳 that Yorkshire pudding is way to dry! Could do with some gravy over it but not on a fry up 😊
I've never had a Yorkshire on a breakfast... and never will🤮
I am not keen on yorkshire pudding with breakfast i have beef with it!
For the price it seemed ok. The Yorkshire would be great filled with beans. That would bring the moisture.
Yorkshire pudding doesn't have a place on Cooked breakfast. Sunday roast BEEF only.
No black pudding 7.1/10
If you feel the need to have a Yorkshire pudding for breakfast have gravy and guess what it won’t be dry! Yet another whinging vlog they do a fantastic breakfast you just want to whinge
Toby carvery is the worst place on planet earth you lemon 😂 sounds like you're whingeing mate 😂😂
To be fair Lee, these guys are working to a price and as you say much of the food has been languishing under the heat lamps long before you arrived. The food was due long service leave! 🤭
Many thanks for the vlog Lee. Now my take on visit the plates should never be so hot,l would have moaned,2and all the food on that buffet looked dry and pointless, the only thing l would had would have been beans on toast with sausages and a few coffees. Mark's 3/10 cheers Lee Richard and Tanya from Southampton ❤😂
A very decent brekkie for 6 quid, Plenty of choice, go for the scrambled egg instead of plastic fried ones. 7.5 from me.
Went there earlier this year after the bit of a refurb, at tea time walked in and women said have you booked ,eh, said no thought it was just come in and eat ,no so walked out and wouldn't go there again crazy ,the place was half empty 🙈
Saving money - drinking tap water or bringing your own tea-bags & asking for hot water - controversial??
I would give that meal a 4. I never trust food that sits under a heat lamp. That pudding looked inedible.
As a kid we had yorkshire pudding with onion gravy as a starter before our Sunday dinner. Then Yorkshire pud with jam as pudding so Yorkshire pud with breakfast yeah I could do that 🤣. Just need lots of beans/gravy /sauce
I score it 5.99, the price is not bad, and the sausages looked alright. You could have thrown that egg at the bottom of your car, and it would've bounced back and taken your eye out.
Quick stop at Toby's and load up that plate!!!!
It is what it is. I'd probably eat it if I was hungry. 5/10.
Sorry to be negative, Lee, but a Yorkshire pudding on a breakfast
no, just no, and PG tea, definitely no
Great vlog as usual, thanks
Oh, I would give it a 6.
It drives me crazy that they never clean the menus they are nearly always dirty & sticky 😮
Ok What more do you want for £5.99 didn’t look too bad to me and you always say you like your batter crispy !
You know my thoughts on hash broons kidda ! Well the potatoes have no place either and the Yorkie is just ridiculous, honestly what’s happening to black pudding 😋 good sausage and bacon, rubbery egg, so overall not great and expensive cuppa so 4/10 and I think that’s slightly generous
Yorkshire on a breakfast,, no no.
I don't care what anybody says.. you can't beat a Toby Breakfast. six quid for all you can eat is a bargain. ok it might not be the best quality but if you want 6 sausages or a pigs worth of bacon - fill your boots.
and I don't have to worry about anybody completely ignoring me when I say NO TOMATOES!!!, and bringing it out with a tin of the grim bastards all over it.
Yorkshire pudding batter much the same as pancake batter which people have for breakfast
hi from London. Very dry and warm June. From July and early August, very wet, grey and cool - almost autumn ish. Since mid-Aug has been better (7/10).
In 1985 while on holiday in England I went to a Toby Carvery with relatives saying how delicious the food was......it was rubbish. Hope it has improved. Doesn't look like it!
A fair review perhaps after your experience. I have to say that here in South Wales the Toby breakfast is better. I never have a Yorkshire with my breakfast but the eggs are refreshed often and I have at "least" two and have found them very good. The potato cheese thing is great very tasty. Mushrooms great. I agree with the toaster but there you are. I have coffee which is good, I would have tea perhaps, but they don't have Glengettie Tea ( A welsh tea that is as good as Yorkshire Tea please try it). The weather has been cr@p since the end of June, oh but just looking forward to Lucy's place (Benidorm) in a few weeks. Don't forget what you paid for an all you can eat! I give it 6/10 but here I would give it 8/10.
Nice review. Thanks.
If you don’t want an Haribo egg don’t choose one simple really
TBH, Firstly you said you were going to pay no more than £5.99 then straight away added a drink at approx half the price of the unlimited food......... Secondly, nobody goes to these places for their eggs and last but not least you moaned about needing to add gravy to the yorkshire pudding for being so crispy, when they provide just that gravy at the hot plate. I do not work for them but mate keep it on point please.
Wot no Yorkshire tea in Nottingham (according to Google)?? Can you expect it outside county lines??
My Brothers and I prefer The Stonehouse version, particularly The Green Tree at Hatfield near Doncaster
Never know so much rain during a summer ! Breakfast 5/10 for me
During the bread strike I made Yorkshire pud in the evening so I could use it instead of bread for my sandwiches, I learnt that you can have Yorkshires any time with anything any time. Those puffed up things are not proper just like the tea a pale imitation of Yorkshire tea. If I was starving and had six quid I would eat that. 5 is fair. Come on, do it for Yorkshire, get it right.
Those hash browns were probably pretty good if you got there at 5 am when they opened. Im nowhere as picky as you especially for $5.99 all you can eat. I think it's a very good value.
Never ever a Yorkie pudding on a breakfast, and a big no no to the potato and cheese things. It looked cheap, I'd score 3/10.
The weather. Exactly. If I hear one more time how hot it is!!! What, do they think, we live in their virtual reality!
You wouldn't want to go for seconds at this place. The whole thing was fairly well dried up under the lights. You will be better off going to a local cafe or roadside cafe for a good fresh cooked breakfast. I wouldn't want a Yorkshire Pudding with my breakfast. I do like Yorkshire Puddings though, and have one with butter in it before my Sunday lunch. Melts in the mouth!!
Yep, reckon they could do with turning their heat settings down a bit because not only were the plates roasting but the food was pretty dried out as well! 😲 Anyway, I feel we need another macmaster airport video coming on because we need you to check out the price of Jameson's in the duty free. (Whiskey prices seem to be going through the roof these days!) Enjoyed the vid as always and if it's any consolation the weather in N.Ireland has been pants too.....what a washout of a summer! 😲
This definitely proves the point about local independent businesses are better, good review nonetheless.
Yorkshire pud on breakfast LOL. No no no. Rest of breakfast looks OK, give it a 6
You need to try cannon hall farm at Barnsley. Beautiful surroundings and farm shop plus restaurants. 👍🏻
It all depends on the Toby carvery on how good the grub is.Mind you all you can drink coffee is horrible weak so worth going for a latte or cappuccino. Also the mushrooms sometimes can be good in black pepper and garlic and other times tasteless.
I think a Yorkshire pud on a breakfast is great! People eat pancakes on a cooked breakfast. And it's the same batter mixture!!
Hmmm...I'm a Yorkshireman (living in Devon) but I have never had a Yorkie for breakfast. Admittedly, as a teen, I've got out of bed after a heavy Saturday night for Sunday lunch with yorkies but that's still lunch, not breakfast 😂
Always love your background music Lee
Love the videos mate I’m from Mansfield myself but I’ve lived in Northern Ireland for the last 8 years but by god I miss Mansfield after watching your videos 😢👍🏻
Lee breakfast looked amazing but the egg not so good suppose they cook a lot in one go a bit like holiday holidays ❤
Try the farm pubs all you can eat, I went to Heathfield Farm in Birkenshaw found it very good
great video: thanks for doing this - I suggested it - amongst others, lol. How about the 2nd half of my suggestion - face off vs Premier Inn AYCE breakfast buffet please?
Hi Lee
I have a updated to tell you...
In about 2 weeks time there are starting Sunday roasts.
They have started Afternoon tea from 20th August. On Sunday's every week
I have told my boss/ owner that you are coming to visit and she can't wait to see you there!
I look forward to hearing your response.
Many thanks
Ryan
Great video
Yorkshire pudding on a breakfast sounds soo wrong but I've have one as well and filled it with beans😅
Hi Lee I was told just today by a friend (he is Italian descent) that you should have Cappuccino only in the morning with breakfast and latte during the day? Who knew? Controversial!English hash browns sorry no ! Only New Jersey hash browns lolAlso, When I was in England in July I had to turn on the heat for about 3 nights in mid summer Toby carvery has closed in Ainsdale Southport,I went there once it was terrible take care
I think it all depends on the restaurant itself,I have live in Manchester and I have family in Barnsley and the Toby carvery in bolton which is local to me and the one in Barnsley which I visited recently are both spot on for carvery and breakfast, everything fresh and the egg definitely didn’t look like a haribo egg
Lee: We're normally pretty close in our ratings... but I'm going to give this one a 'controversial' 9/10!
PG Tips - the KING of mass-produced tea - tick.
Tinned tomatoes - tick.
Non-catering sausage - tick.
Price - DOUBLE-TICK.
All you can eat, for under £6... you just can't complain! That is a bargain!
Yes, the standard isn't the same as a proper greasy spoon, and Yorkshire pudding on a full English... doesn't belong. Then again, the power is in the hands of the punter.
*My rating scale on this one is for a 'help yourself' breakfast. If you compare it with Travel Lodge etc., it's leagues ahead.
5/10 - ouch - I would rate it 7/10 - where can you find better for gbp6?? Haribo egg, lol - problem with buffets but with non-buffets if you get duff food, you're stuck with it unless you complain. With the buffet, you could just have got more but yes, eggs do dry out. I think you could get scrambled eggs cooked to order too but I know you don't like 'em.
Nuclear plates. Lmao, people in front of you just picked them up. 🧚🏻♂️
I'd have needed to use my chainsaw on that Yorkshire pudding! Sloppy tinned tomatoes and 50% liquid baked beans! Button mushrooms looked a bit dry and hard, give me what you call a pretentious large mushroom any day.
I thought for the price, it wasn’t bad and you were maybe a bit unfair on this one Lee.
The Yorkshire pud did have gravy available- im not sure I like the idea of breakfast Yorkshires but if I had one I’d have to have the gravy with it.
Fried eggs are always dodgy on buffets, to be honest scrambled eggs are better on these because they keep nicer longer. Travelodge breakfasts only have scrambled and not fried eggs.
Oh, and get Dave back so he can review some veggie options, they need tasking with cooking the veggie sausages too!
If you go when they first open - 8 am ish, then the food is not dried up like that. Plus you can also ask the staff for fresh eggs and they will bring more out. I have always found the Toby in my area to be good for breakfast, perhaps try another Toby next time? Thanks for the vlog xx
More moisture in a Ryvita than in that Yorkshire 😂
If they had one within walking distance, Id probably eat there every morning. And shorten my life expectancy by about 10 years.
We do have one within that but have go to greasy spoon nearby for £6.40 get tea and toast in an fresh cooked eggs and bacon
I’ve always been disappointed with the Toby Breakfast but the their Roast dinners are amazing!! Not much out there that can touch them for that, price and quality, just my personal opinion. 👌
Cheers Mac 👍👍
I've always been disappointed with the roast dinner!
@@nickm0703
As I said, my personal opinion,
Expectations and tastes are widely different.
Yorkshire puddings should not be on a full English breakfast. Cheers for video Lee
The Yorkies are probably leftovers from the evening cavery. If they did that for a Sunday Roast with 24 Hour old puds, it works because you soak them in gravy.
Great review. Also loved your stonehouse breakfast review. Would be great to see you review a stonehouse carvery as well 😃
Personally the mushrooms and sausage looked really dry, baked beans sauce looked watery
Bacon without fat is more like a thin ham gammon as far as I’m concerned.
That breakfast looked disgusting.3/10 from crap
Have you ever tried the breakfast at a Village Hotel?
I went today for breakfast, based on your review (I wasn't aware of the offer prior). The bacon was below average, sausage was good, breakfast gravy is an AMAZING invention, Yorkshire pudding didn't work. However, on an OVERALL BREAKFAST scale I would give it a 5. For a chain pub breakfast, I would give it an 8.5. Plus.......for £5.99, I don't think there's ANY room for complaint for what I got.
Thanks for the like MacMaster....but do you agree or disagree with my feedback/review? Interested as I've watched you a LOT for the past year, and hope you don't 'passify' viewers with just a 'like'?
I do agree Andy and I don't just pacify viewers with a like. x
£5.99 looked alright for that .family of 4 driving past want some food 24 quid no brainer
I wouldn’t even think of going for the more expensive, i would just go for what I like 👍
For £5.99 I thought that was especially good value 😊 all you can eat
What do you expect for the money? Looks good value to me.
Well be honest the whole experience is quite shocking I have had there buffet breakfast before and I'm in no hurry to call again any time soon I rate it 4 out of 10 that pod place at junction 29 was far superior to that dogs dinner you had at Toby Carvery.
All you can for 5.99 not bad. Whats that all about those piping hot plates at some of these places!!!!😅
just pick from the pile which has been out for a while and cooled down...
Yorkshire pudding! On a breakfast! That's just plain wrong.
Not for me this one. I'd have to be close to death from starvation to even consider putting any of that 'food' into my mouth, and even then I'd think twice.
My considered opinion? DO NOT EAT HERE.
