Do you have a video where you show the process of how to do these custom binds like how to prepare the form and your books? I always get confused and intimidated by the form Houchen bindery gives for custom binds. I'd love to see your process on it.

You’re correct, and I completely forgot about that! Thankfully I’ve got that books of magic run bound as well, so I’ll be able to read it. Not ideal having to grab another book, but it’s better than a complete gap I guess 🤦♂️
They look great! How about some stats? How many issues in the Death Metal bind? It’s huge. what’s the lowest/highest issue count you would have bound? What’s the limit on binding TPB together, 3 or 6? Thanks!
I’ll definitely get some stats on the death metal bind! It basically collects everything that was on the event’s checklist. Lowest I would go is 8 issues (I’ve done it) and the most I recommend for a comfortable reading experience is 20-24. You can go up to 2” thickness on your spine at most binderies, but you’re probably going to get some gutter loss.
How many issues are in that Rai bind?
For runs like Death Metal with card stock covers, would you ever consider just putting all the covers at the back and keeping only issue content together for a smoother reading experience? Or does that not work so well?
That’s a great idea! I honestly haven’t thought about it, because I don’t mind them being the way they are sequentially, but that might be a good way to hide all the erect pages! I would confirm with a bindery that it wouldn’t be a weak section of the book - Ive been told cardstock isn’t the best thing to bind in general, but haven’t asked much about it… rolling the dice baby!
I absolutely love these videos. Seeing your custom binds is really interesting. It's always cool to see runs that aren't officially collected in hardcover, or to see hardcovers that happen to be better collected and personalized by fans.
As for Green Lantern -- GL is my favorite DC IP. I have a complete run from Kyle's first appearance through now -- including both Hal Jordan & the GLC as well as Green Lanterns. I feel like Grant Morrison's run is not only the worst GL run of all time, but IMO, it's Grant Morrison's worst work. Hal Jordan acts like Guy Gardner the entire time, and in the end, any time anything really interesting happens, it just ends in a rushed sense. I get he wanted to do a Silver-Age style book, but it just doesn't work.
Not that I dislike Morrison -- my two all-time favorite books are All-Star Superman and Morrison's Doom Patrol.
I absolutely love your Valiant Uncollected book. I might just do that myself. I'm still waiting on my complete Acclaim-era custom binds to come back.

Lol..I've also just finished getting the final issues gathered for an action comics by Dan Jurgens bind...im sure I'm forgetting a bunch of other things as well...your videos are really starting to tempt me to bind the sandman universe titles as well

Nice binds! Hoping that DC puts out an omnibus or absolute of the GL Morrison run, but if not then I’ll probably copy you and do a custom for them.
