A lot of talk here about Taylor's grip. I would also say he has a western grip, his index knuckle is on bevel 5. Jason is right though, his heel pad is on 4 or 4.5. This is because he has a closed fist grip, same grip structure as Iga Swiatek. Jack Sock and Igor Andreev also had this same closed fist western grip. It is slightly different than someone like Sergi Brugera or Khachanov have, which is a spread index finger grip.
Hey Jason why do you say “extreme semi western grip on bevel 4. Extreme semi western means 4.5, halfway between semi and full western. By the way fritz uses a full western grip on bevel 5, he talked about it on USA Olympics channel and other forums👍
Hello Jason, As anyone knows in a shadow swing with no ball -with not much energy putting into it - it´s impossible to mimic that large "flip" position - a true key trait of a sound forehand as you say - of aligning the racquet tip to the elbow level or beyond. You say it´s necessary to have a super loose forearm, hand, etc + engaging legs + hips + upper body rotation. So as I get it and being that a very short loop that forehand motion requires a very explosive motion, aka SSC (Stretch-shortening cycle). I mean it isn´t that Djokovic or any other with a larger takeback loop does not have it but Fritz due to his short loop necessarily has to use a much more explosive flip motion?
Exactly, Fritz uses full western and therefore needs to hit the ball way lower to allow the wrist to place the racquet head flat in order to create top spin.
Fritz is killing me with this hybrid . His base knuckle appears to be “westernish” but his heel pad is more semi-western. I think I need to revisit this one and get a closer look. -Jason Frausto

Actually, it's between bevels 5 and 6, so it's halfway between a full western and a so-called Hawaiian.
You're really chill to listen to
AMSR tennis instruction coming soon :) Thanks for listening :)

I love Taylor's forhand, amazing shot
Agreed 100%. Amazing forehand.

For me on hitting hand leads with the elbow which creates the racquet speed using the elbow to give him leverage
The flip is a natural consequence of the loose wrist and a heavy racket.
Great points and also a neutral wrist position.
Thanks for sharing your insights Wally.

Fritz has one of the lightest spec’d racquets on tour, but loose wrist yes

@@andrelamarque1009 I was about to add a similar comment. Taylor absolutely uses a full western grip.

Why it has to be Federer? Fritz FH is similar to 99% of ATP players’ fundamentally, but least similar to Federer’s.
I disagree I think Taylor Fritz is nothing like Federer grip is Easter and extends elbow etc

he is western not semi i think

Yes, western.
