It really lifted my heart to see so many young women (and a few older ladies of my vintage) excelling at what used to be a male dominated musical genre. I'd travel a lot of miles to see talent this good. Thank you for posting.
yes! used to be a time (for a very long time), I was the only instrumentalist (banjo) among the guys. That went on for years.... it was great to be in on the beginnings of young gals coming into the scene. I don't play so much now, but still keep up those close harmonies - makes life beautiful when you do that!
I was thinking they could stop with Molly Tuttle, but, then I watched the rest of them. We have some damn fine flatpicking females making music. I never knew Sierra Hull picked guitar. I saw her many years ago and she was a mandolin whiz. Alison Brown too. I've only ever seen her play the banjo. I mean REALLY play the banjo
I bookmarked this a while ago and that's why I am listening again now. This is proof that this kind of music is alive and well, with great young players still coming up, and with more mature players still carrying on. What a magnificent musical tradition!
Molly Tuttle is fast becoming the next Alison krauss with her new band golden highway and her willingness to collaborate with anyone that love beautiful music, her crooked tree album is probably the album of the year and well deserved she's so self-confident now and put yourself out there with no hesitation not the shy little girl she was
Molly Mason definitely belongs in this group. Thumbs up for those that were featured, especially Molly Tuttle, who can also 'dig a hole' in a banjo with the best of them. Sierra Hull picks a mean guitar, but you really ought to hear Sierra pick her primary instrument, the mandolin.
I grew up in Ireland on trad music. It gladdens my heart strings to hear these guitar strings being played so well. All of these girls are so unassuming, real, and talented.
I would have to agree with those of you who highlighted Molly Tuttle and Sierra Hull. Courtney Hartman would also make my list, followed by two other Colorado guitar players who are up and coming, the Cody sisters, Maddie and Megan. The best thing about living in Colorado is attending RockyGrass Academy and getting to watch and play with these fabulous players and genuinely nice people.
Amazing talent! Perfect example of using both sides of the brain at the same time...the left hand totally knows what the right hand is doing at all times. Well done, Ladies.
What a nice compilation of talented female guitar players. Fun video clips and variety of songs. Couldn’t help but watch to the end. Never hurts to start any music video with Molly!
Flat pickers and chicken picking is tops in my book. I could care less about the "Metal Shredders"! Amazing agility in all these female pickers. I could spend hours listening to this. Great video.
Toni Lindgren is an incredible all round guitarist & musician, not only flat picking, she can play any stringed instrument exceptionally as well as harmonica and has an amazing voice. Covers of the likes of Sweet Dreams Are Made of This & ELO as well as Beatles, Fleetwood Mac & Chuck Berry showcase her range of talent, not to mention all the original material made with Elle
Thanks for putting this up. I was introduced to some wonderful young musicians i never seen before. Very happy to see Tone Lindgren on the list but her part was not long enough. She's a wonderful talent.
Can't believe nobody commented about Abby Hartley. I have sort of kept up with her from childhood by going to the Hartley Family music shows. The entire Hartley family is unbelievably talented, both with playing instruments and songwriting. Abby plays several instruments equally well and sings beautifully.
I just found this….fantastic! My favorite (they are all great tho) is Molly, her flatpicking is off the chart…also a beautiful haunting voice to match! Thanks for this, bluegrass is in great hands (pun intended) !!!
All talented musicians in my opinion! I was really happy to see Abby Hartley in this video, I've always thought she was an exceptional guitar player! It's one thing to have really good chops and timing and the ability to nail a really tight break, but somehow Abby is able to add a "tone" and "feeling" into the mix that just seems to grab my ear every time I hear it. I've been playing for almost 20 years and I'm still to this day in pursuit of that kind of sound lol! She's definitely one of those players with that "extra something"!
First time ever watching and I am sorry I didn't a year ago. That was beautiful.I am a big fan of all of them.I think it takes big brains to be a super fast ,super clean, inventive, artistic fret burner don't you?
I'm hitting the like button wile the commercial is playing an yes this will be edited for I've so much more to say The happiness that tickles my toes are out of purely what I call love...
I play mountain and hammered dulcimer myself. It takes a lot of concentration at performances. That's even with practicing 4-5 hours a day. Hands and brains do get tired.
I think it takes extreme concentration to flatpick like that. They're just very focussed. I've tried flatpicking at a very beginner level and I could not smile to save my life - I literally grimace! :)
Very similar to how metal guitarist and mandolin picking with the right technique. With the left practice scales, arpegios plus melodies. Studying classical and jazz guitar can help with that.
All wonderful but there's something about Molly Tuttle. Not only is her playing unbelievable, it's seems so effortless. Most bluegrass players of any gender seem so concentrated but Molly just seems like she's got no tension and is just so easy (I'm sure it isn't)
That’s some stunning playing there! Is it some kind of rule though, that you can’t look like you’re involved with the music? Up there on stage, beautiful fans loving what you’re playing; I’d be grinning ear to ear.
playing that fast takes a LOT of concentration to keep it together, while also being aware of other instruments around you (group dynamics). Its a team sport, too. You'd know it if you'd ever tried it! I see a lot of young guys looking serious too, every now and again there's a brilliant smile shows through - BUT only for a moment! then back to concentrating again. i see what you are saying though, a few more smiles here and there would be great....
Honestly I’m so toxic. I’m a dude so I always imagine the flat picking community through my limited perspective. Thanks for putting me on to these musicians
I love Molly Tuttle; for her gorgeous hair and bangs, but mostly the way she shreds american classic. See, that's why the silly rings. Dig up Townes Van Zandt, he'll tell you the same thing.
I know this is old news to alot of people lol, but it drives me nuts when the banjo player steps all over the guitar break. Anybody that's played in a bluegrass band or just sat in a jam session knows this is a common issue, even the loudest of flat tops can't hold a candle to a banjo in terms of volume. A good banjo player knows when to dial it back some, especially for the guitar. I'm not calling anybody out specifically and I definitely don't mean any disrespect to anyone, it's just confusing to me when I see this type of thing happen with higher level players. But on the other hand...as I guitar player maybe I'm just biased lol! All these ladies are awesome by the way!
Why should there be any differentiation between male and female here ? The fact that women are as equal, if not better, than men with such skills has been evident for many years in the playing of musical instruments. So VERY clear with the piano.
Bluegrass pickers, in a group/band, more often than not produce a cacophony of noise due to inadequate volume adjustment of the various instruments. Sadly, noise is noise.
All very clever but so often the melody is completely lost which rather defeats the object. Lovely to see females being acknowledged as there's no reason on earth why they shouldn't be as good as any male with a guitar.
It really lifted my heart to see so many young women (and a few older ladies of my vintage) excelling at what used to be a male dominated musical genre. I'd travel a lot of miles to see talent this good. Thank you for posting.

Glad to see Toni Lindgren get her due... she is probably my current favorite guitarist in any genre..
Toni is a BEAST!!
A beast? Maybe I might agree...if I could have heard her!
Molly Tuttle and Sierra Hull are far and away my favourites. As a guitarist myself, I can't imagine how they come out with the sounds that they do.
Wow!. Molly, Sierra and Toni Lindgren are my amazing favorite. Even one girl play from behind on her neck. All girls are skilled.,thank
Thank you so much for compiling this assemblage of talent. So glad Toni Lindgren was included.
I was thinking they could stop with Molly Tuttle, but, then I watched the rest of them.
We have some damn fine flatpicking females making music.
I never knew Sierra Hull picked guitar. I saw her many years ago and she was a mandolin whiz.

Flatpicking is great fun for everyone...

Maybe it's because I'm 64, but I especially liked Kathy Barwicks' version of Daleys' Reel. Nice sound and tempo, Kathy!
That Martin she is playing looks to go back a long way.
That is a fine version!
I grew up in Ireland on trad music. It gladdens my heart strings to hear these guitar strings being played so well. All of these girls are so unassuming, real, and talented.
hey Toni, great to see you on this video!
Wow! Molly Tuttle has peers!? I didn't realize! Thank you!
And so many are so young! Looks like acoustic guitar music has a bright future!
Pretty solid list!! It’s nice to see the young ladies like Molly Tuttle and Sierra Hull keeping it alive!
Amazing talent! Perfect example of using both sides of the brain at the same time...the left hand totally knows what the right hand is doing at all times. Well done, Ladies.
Sierra Hull walking the Tony rice feel I've been trying to master for years!!😮😮😫😍 I thought she was just a mando player lol
she is very talented
Agree...
Courtney Hartman has awesome phrasing and timing. I love watching her play.
What a nice compilation of talented female guitar players. Fun video clips and variety of songs. Couldn’t help but watch to the end. Never hurts to start any music video with Molly!
Thanks Mike...
Flat pickers and chicken picking is tops in my book. I could care less about the "Metal Shredders"! Amazing agility in all these female pickers. I could spend hours listening to this. Great video.
Thanks James..
My great aunt was one of the best bluegrass guitar players I’ve ever known back in the 70’s, 80’s & 90’s
Toni Lindgren is an incredible all round guitarist & musician, not only flat picking, she can play any stringed instrument exceptionally as well as harmonica and has an amazing voice. Toni Lindgren at 5:30
loved the clip from the Everett's Music Barn.....great venue for traditional Bluegrass !!!
Thanks...it must going all over the world.
Thanks for putting this up. I was introduced to some wonderful young musicians i never seen before. Very happy to see Tone Lindgren on the list but her part was not long enough. She's a wonderful talent.
Thanks...
Real nice clips of amazing women guitar picking! Awesome and inspiring! Gonna subscribe and thumbs up to support this!
Can't believe nobody commented about Abby Hartley. I have sort of kept up with her from childhood by going to the Hartley Family music shows. The entire Hartley family is unbelievably talented, both with playing instruments and songwriting. Abby plays several instruments equally well and sings beautifully.
Agree Barbara, Abby is very talented
Sierra Hull is ALL OVER my Spotify. I just listen in awe, hoping I could one day be a shadow of what she is.
Beautiful playing by all of you 👍keep the art of music alive and pass it on 😊
Thank you Vincent
I just found this….fantastic! My favorite (they are all great tho) is Molly, her flatpicking is off the chart…also a beautiful haunting voice to match! Thanks for this, bluegrass is in great hands (pun intended) !!!

Growing up on & around bluegrass music I know that is hard & amazing both at the same time 😎
Thank you for posting these fine pickers.
Of course Molly Tuttle is great and so many other great guitar players.
I have never heard of Paige Anderson. She is very good.
Thank you! So happy to see so many pretty as well as pretty-awesome flat pickers, very very rare up here in Canada. :)
Katie and Penny Clark play the Mandolin and Banjo also. Their brother Ben Clark plays banjo, guitar, Mandolin, and piano. All at a professional level.
The constable girls are super chill . they look like they are ready for a nap but their fingers are moving at light speed .
Chelsea is one helluva electric guitarist, too. Can play Clapton note-for-note, with one of the best tones I've heard
Molly Tuttle is my favorite flat picker. Period.
good golly miss Molly, Tuttle!
Beautiful beautiful beautiful wonderful wonderful wonderful totally digging the talent of these Groovy people 😎✌️🐞🌼🌺🌻🌸🌞💐🍀🍄🍄🌷🌸🌻🕯🆒🎵🎶🏁🕝↩️
Thank you Alvin
Wow! Some talented ladies here.
I absolutely love molly Tuttle. She's a bluegrass bad ass. Enough said.
I'm hitting the like button wile the commercial is playing an yes this will be edited for I've so much more to say
The happiness that tickles my toes are out of purely what I call love...
Great music, superb talent but I don’t see many smiles reflecting the joy of the music
I play mountain and hammered dulcimer myself. It takes a lot of concentration at performances. That's even with practicing 4-5 hours a day. Hands and brains do get tired.

Wow - breathtaking
I thought that Alison Brown only played banjo at this high level. Very nice.
Sierra Hull is a local. Saw her when she was a little kid. Always knew she was a winner.
I haven’t seen part 2 yet only this one. Please don’t forget Nancy Blake (Norman Blake’s wife) and Jane Henderson (Wayne Henderson’s daughter) thanks!
Thank you...
Beyond Hearing Belief .. Fantastic
GO Ladies !
Thanks for putting up all these bluegrass appreciation videos. This is good work!
Thanks
I like Kathy Barwick's playing. Very melodic, a bit like Portuguese Fado.
Yes but that tune is very melodic
thanks!
@@kbarguitar You're welcome!
My screen started to smoke...some fire hot pickers.
Wow - they play with such ease..
I reckon those Constable sisters won that round!! 😲
Very similar to how metal guitarist and mandolin picking with the right technique. With the left practice scales, arpegios plus melodies. Studying classical and jazz guitar can help with that.
All great and inspiring!
Great talent, enjoyed every second of the video.
Thank you for this!
Trust me--NO criticism here, but if I could pick a guitar like any of these ladies, there is no way you could erase the joy from my face.
All these are good, but there's a reason Tuttle is 1st in this video.
Yes, she is the best flatpicker...
Really enjoyed this!
The two things I like best, females and flatpickin'... :) lovely.
Thanks Andrew, love to see females picking.
Sierra Hull is awesome!
All wonderful but there's something about Molly Tuttle. Not only is her playing unbelievable, it's seems so effortless. Most bluegrass players of any gender seem so concentrated but Molly just seems like she's got no tension and is just so easy (I'm sure it isn't)
I was noticing the same thing. It may have something to do with how long she's been doing it!
Wow! What a gift!!! 🌺🌸💐🌹
Maria Moss of Hogan and Moss and The Old Weird America should be in here. JS!
That’s some stunning playing there!
Is it some kind of rule though, that you can’t look like you’re involved with the music?
Up there on stage, beautiful fans loving what you’re playing; I’d be grinning ear to ear.
Thanks Bill
I was thinking the same you must be Scottish

Yes! Toni is on the list! :D

Great Pickers All!
Their pickin and I’m a grinnin😁😁😁 well done ladies!
Awesome !
Beautiful ladies beautiful playing
Absolutely brilliant talent !
With just a couple of exceptions this selection is all VERY young.
Beautiful picking.
Thanks...
Molly can definitely pick!
吉他这么弹可太好玩了,就喜欢乡村蓝草。
Awesome ladies
I liked the last lady best.

Awsome....Just awsome!

Some great pickin'!
These gals featured are not just female, they are great pickers, period!!!!!!
Great female artists!
Bluegrass pickers, in a group/band, more often than not produce a cacophony of noise due to inadequate volume adjustment of the various instruments. Sadly, noise is noise.
WOW!
it's a magic trick. it's just gotta be a magic trick.
if you want to see REALLY talented musicians, go to a blue grass festival.
Very difficult to find one in the Netherlands...thanks anyway.
All very clever but so often the melody is completely lost which rather defeats the object.
Lovely to see females being acknowledged as there's no reason on earth why they shouldn't be as good as any male with a guitar.
Outstanding. Slinks away to go and eat some worms .
I believe Danielle Yother is playing Gold Rush
Thanks Suzanne, i change the description.
all of the ladys were great.
Great is great, nothing else matters!!!!
Gender matters. These ladies triumphed over their patriarchal husbands.
FABULOUS
