- How to Attach Your Camera to Your Telescope.
It’s a simple as this, if you want to take pictures through your telescope, you need to properly attach your camera to it. Learning how to attach your camera to a telescope is one of the first steps needed to enter the world of astrophotography.
Whether you plan to photograph the planets using the eyepiece projection method or to take deep-sky images of galaxies and nebulae in space using a prime-focus adapter, attaching your camera to the telescope must be accomplished first.

Thank you for this. That process always seemed too obvious for anyone to ever go over, but it was a big question I've had for a while
Same here, I struggled to find answers last year when I started.
@@theamateur8562 Same, turns out there are even 2 different t rings, one wider and one smaller. T ring to M48 is the one you want for astrophotography directly to a flattener on a refractor telescope. The other one for mounting with a nosepiece, I think? haven't tried yet.
I wish this was posted a couple of years ago when I was starting off:), I'm sure a number of beginners will find this super helpful.
Can we please get links to all the gear?
It would be amazing if you considered making a tutorial series on this channel, seeing as you’re really nice and experienced, i think lots of newcomers will be grateful for it…
This is literally the exact setup I just ordered to start astrophotography and I can't be more excited. Absolutely fell in love with taking pictures of space because of you!
What is the telescope?
@@avatar123456789s William Optics Z61
Was the kit expensive?
@@tig3443 a little bit, would probably be a couple grand now. I might be selling mine soon though so let me know if you're interested lol
Thank you
Thanks to share this amazing knowledge with us!
Whoa! Horsehead Nebula in last 1 second!! Excellent video Trevor!
Can you please mention links to purchase these items? What about at B&H
Capturing ancient light! Wonderful!
Thank you sir
Trevor thank you so much for this video. I now get good pictures thanks to you people are right you do a great job making videos very easy to understand. Thank you
Thank you.Very helpful
Thanks for the tips.
Thank you!
I need the whole setup details. I have the camera but need the OTA, Tracker, T ring details.
Thanks for this!! I need to do it.
This is very helpful Thanks
Super helpful
Hi
Thanks for what you have posted this year
Merry Christmas to you and your family
Wishing you a safe and happy new year
Regards Rob
Thanks for teaching a beginner
Thank you very much but where do you buy those
Hi, can u share the camera setting to shoot like that? Thanks
Love my Z61!!!
Hey Trevor! I have a question, I do this with my dslr camera and the t-ring and I attach it to my telescope, but I can’t seem to focus on the moon or planets at all!! Please help me 😢😢
Make sure you are at the correct back focus for your telescope. You may need to add spacers to get your camera further away from the scope.
Thank you man 👍
You just answered a question I have had for a while now. Thank you.
That's informative .
thank you
What software do you use to collect data about stars and stuff
Awesome!
Can you please tell the specs of the second Telescope
Great video. What is the mini photo telescope please?
Is there any sort of protective glass you can add somewhere in the adapter for mirrorless cameras so the sensor isn't exposed to elements?
Thank you for sharing this.
Is there anything that has changed over the year?
How do you get magnification without an eyepiece
Focal lenght
Love your videos! What’s that refractor telescope called?
Man, you're awesome with some awesome pictures and equipment! Look, I want to pickup this hobby. Since I'm in my 60s with none of the equipment, I want to know just how long it took you to buy all this stuff and learn how to operate the equipment?
Please can you give the name and model of the smaller refractor telescope?
Fantastic
How much is a start up kit with everything you need to be doing what you are doing
Taking the photos is easy; it's the processing, which Trevor has down pat, that is the hard part.
What kind of refractor telescope is this in the video. I like the set up.
when taking picture, is it manual mode?? TX for the video my friend!!! :D
How does this work for mirror telescopes, I'm new to astrophotography so I dont have a fancy expensive rig yet
One life bucket list dream I have is to own a telescope and camera
I’m just here for the music
Nice 👍
I did exactly what you said, but the pictures are so blurry you cant even see the moon.... Any suggestions? Using Cannon D600
what size are your adapters? I bought a set for my T2I Canon but cannot get my camera and my eye pieces to work together. I have a regular $5 Walmart 1/4inch telescope, and I have a Explorer Science 3/4 inch eye pieces. so I'm so confused what I'm doing wrong. any ideas?
Ty
😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😭
bro I just saw a face in space that rhymed
My telescope is a Dob. So with no eyepieces in the mix, no magnification is going on, so the telescope just serves as a light collector/amplifier, is that it?
What William Optics refractor is that?
i have an old Meade telescope i'm starting off with as a beginner. it has been the most frustrating thing I've done in my life. but now that I've finally figured out how to align it properly. but, I'm still having problems getting it to directly get it pointing on target. it will point in the direction, but wont sit dead on target. it sits off to the bottom right. it's probably because im a beginner. i highly doubt it's the mount or telescope. but, if you guys have any tips... please let me know. so i'm not raging over the setup XD
Can u do this in any telescope
Like heritage150 for example
Do i need a eyepice to see the planete bigger ?
Which telescope is the second, smaller one?
I find it horrifying that you would screw that nose piece in after attaching the T ring. Those things are almost always aluminum and will shed particles of paint or aluminum right onto the sensor or at least into the camera body. Surely you want to attach the nose piece and T ring together first and then attach them to the camera as a unit.
What's the telescope he used?
Hellz yeah!! What brands?
What's the little refractor telescope used in this video?
Dear can u tell me the telescope name and model
This tip does not work on many "budget friendly" Dobsonian due to where the focal point is with the stock focuser. I have the apetura 12'' Dob and can't reach focus with just a T-ring adapter and the stock focuser since the focal point is actually inside the focuser (meant for an eyepiece). There are a few ways to remedy this which I won't get into here. Might be worth researching and clearing up so your subscribers aren't led down a frustrating path.
Like a focal reducer?
@@rizzmo8451 I used a barlow lense.
What if I don’t have a DSLR camera? I have a canon SX 540 HS.
What is the small white one in the second half of your vid?
I use a canon 60d ...not modified. But use it with a L-enhance clip filter.. now i need a scope like that one lol
Horsehead nebula in the last part of the video
Is it possible to shot planets with same settings?
It work with all cameras?
What is the name of that reflector?
How about a nikon p90 coolpix. It has a non detachable lens. Is there any way to attache a camera like this?
How do I take a picture when it says lens not attached
Does anyone know how well this would work for the C700SM Nat Geo telescope?
I've never used any of these devices before but You can't take colourful photos like that, the pictures will be mostly black and white. it'll be processed later
What about Canon mirrorless RF cameras?
I have the same question. I have a Canon R5 and I would like to start taking astrophotography images.
Hope he replies
does this work with mirrorless?
What kind of telescope is that?
Eyepiece?
I had trouble focusing the image through the camera. Also, once you take the eye piece out, you lose your power... 🤔
Bro camera name please
Side note…. You can’t always get a decent focus with a t-ring and telescope
Isnt that why he added the nose adapter thing right after adding the t ring?
@@CryptoRoast_0 no sometimes the maximum you can put in the scope isnt enough for good focus
I have a old Camera 📷 Milton X5 can I use it
Midlife crisis hobby: unlocked. (No seriously, I think this is gonna be it)
instead of buying a dedicated monochrome camera, why cant i just use a dslr and shot in mono then work the filters in the train?
Can this be done with mirrorless cameras as well? I have a reflector telescope. Not sure if I read somewhere that the focal point does not land on the camera sensor or something with reflectors? Pls respond!
It’s the same general process. Just buy the right t ring for your camera
I have a MAK telescope from Skywatcher and I can mount either my Nikon DSLR or Fuji mirrorless on it with the right adapter. Mirrorless has less gap from the lens mount to the sensor so the focus is different. You can buy spacers that fit between the lens mount ring and the eyepiece adapter to move the camera further away, my Fuji to 1.25inch adapter has a spacer built in. The adapters are pretty cheap, so give it a go or ask a friendly telescope store for advice. Good luck!
Hi, When you attach the camera to the scope do you then focus the subject through the camera?
No, the telescope becomes the camera lens. You focus using the telescopes focuser.
I can't reach focus with my 8 inch Dob why is that
😍😍😍
I attached my camera as shown but get nowhere near the same results 🙃 😅
Very few of us get anything close to this...there is always more to it.
1 ❤ for the William Optics Zenithstar 61 🎉
Is it essential to use a modified DSLR?
Depend the target. If it had red in it, mostly yes. Otherwise, you can't use a stock camera.
Example of target with stock dslr : pleiades, andromeda galaxy, irix nebula
I'm in the minority and shoot with Nikon. I looked at t-ring adapters and they seem to either be 42mm or 48mm. How do I know which one to get for my Celestron 8se? I'm a newbie so please be easy on me if the answer is as obvious as the nose on my face.
fotodiox are the best adapters for anything camera based and they will tall you what will fit

How about videos?
Uh but everyone can’t afford that
Buy used gear. You can’t probably by a starter rig for $450 that will keep you satisfied for quite a while
@@Adrift555 I am 15yo bro I am still dependent on my parents
@@aguyfromneptune1616 i am 16 and bought my rig nearly 2 years ago.
- I was shovelling peoples drive ways and cutting peoples grass.
- I sold my monitor and a bunch of my old toys to parents that wanted to buy toys their kids.
- Didn’t spend any of my Christmas/Birthday money
I will admit I was lucky that I was able to work for my dad, but I needed all that money because I was buying a $2250 setup.
You can easily get $500 by this time text year if you try hard enough.
