- If your back door is not locking, unlocking or the handle is getting stuck this is a fast and easy fix for you.
Will work also on other Toyota and Lexus products (gx460, gx470, 4runner, Sequoia and more)
after reviewing this and other videos, I realized all of them address the wrong cause. I purchased a new actuator and replaced the existing one, only to find the replacement was just as weak as the original. That’s when I realized that the real problem is the outside release handle which was too stiff for the actuator spring. Holding the handle in the “open” position and spraying WD 40 generously up into either side helped to clean out the gunk that was preventing the handle from easily moving, which is the real problem. No need to Jerry rig a spring if the door handle is lubricated properly.
@@Paul-1123- sadly you’ll see that cleaning it with WD-40 it’s only temporary and I’ll have to do it several times a year

Get a nice spring from your hardware store, a piece of wire at both ends and attach to wherever you can. Will outlast the car.

sorry for the late response hopefully you were able to resolve your issue it just needs to open the back window and shimmy its way up
ya but how do you open it when it won't open?
You need to do the same process while the door is closed from the inside of your trunk. Open the back window before you start the process it will be a lot easier.

If your handle goes back into place every single time you let go then that is not your problem. search for; FJ Cruiser Door Lock Actuator Motor, it is a known problem and they should fix it.
