Why would RaMu not be accepted by the Momoko fan at the time? Because they wanted Momoko to be innocent forever. However the black contemporary music-based RaMu-style matched the opposite poles, they thought. Beside Momoko wanted to make self-renewal to an adult woman. She could not be forever in puberty. But it is ironical that it is rather very innocent when I see a performance of RaMu in now. Momoko was too enough innocent in this video, wasn't she? I think heartily that the Momoko fan at the time should have supported RaMu obediently. Thanks a lot for uploading this valuable performance.
As for me, RA MU style feels very similar to the style of Momoko's 2 last albums (especially Escape From Dimension) and I don't think it was the complete U-turn as some people say but just a continuation.

But・・・・ Momoko held an independent press conference on 17/Feb/1988 and declared as follows. She felt uncomfortable about being an idol. From now on, she would continue to be a singer as a vocalist of a "rock band" called RaMu. I am very sorry that Momoko fans at the time heard this and were very disappointed and stopped supporting her.
OK, well I wasn't a fan before as she's way before my time. I only stumbled upon this song recently and fell in love with the Black vocals mixed with J-pop vibes. Even more surprised it was composed way back then. It was ahead of its time imho.

菊地桃子がデビュウした当時はアイドル路線で静かで歌が下手な可愛い子というイメージでした。
80年代はそういう子がいっぱいいました🎵
ところが日本のbubble真っ盛りの頃に突然菊地桃子がイメージチェンジをしてロック路線と言うことで「ムー」というグループのヴォーカルになりました。ロックというには程遠く歌が下手で話題性だけのグループとして認識しています。
しかしながら今聴くとその当時裏側ではやり始めていたシティーミュージックの路線を目指していたのですね👍当時の音楽業界の売り込み方が悪くロック路線と言うので失敗したのだと思います。
かわいそうなのは菊地桃子でした。
音源はレコードだろうけど映像は相当貴重！感謝！
イントロからしてブラコン…このグルーブが最高だし何よりバックコーラスの凄さと桃子のウイスパーボイスが癖になる。先般から続く世界的なCity Popsブームの中でも頭角を現す曲だと思う。時代が早すぎたかも。
桃子さんは今この曲を歌っても全く違和感ないと思う。
楽曲の完成度も高くカッコ可愛い系…もっとRA MUの世界観を見たかった。
すごく心地良いんですよね、メロディと桃ちゃんの声が。オメガトライブのカルロスをずっと若い頃聴いてて、同じような音で好きでした。
30余年の時を経て…やっとラ・ムーに時代が追いついたな。

桃子さんとコーラスメンバーとの関係は良好だったと聞きます。後年女優に転向した際、英語のセリフを流暢に話せてたのもラ・ムー時代の賜物ですね。
１人の方は帰国後マイケルジャクソンのコーラスとしてツアーに帯同しました。

桃子さんは本田美奈子さんに触発されて、1、2曲ロック曲を歌いたかっただけなのに、藤田社長が何を勘違いしたかボーカリストを探していたラ・ムーに加入させたそうです。
近年のシティポップ人気を考えると社長の先見の明がありましたが、当時の桃子さんとはイメージの乖離が大きく曲もロックにしては洗練されてて、迷走してるように見られ気の毒でした。
意外にも本人は楽しんでたし、曲のクオリティも高いので評価する人が多いです。黒歴史と言われますが、通から見れば立派な武勇伝ですよ。
30周年ライブの時いつかはラ・ムー曲を歌いたいと言ってたので、今年の40周年に期待しています。
