he talked about history of america, did an analogy between a country & a company, explained the power of exit, his examples range from one end to the other end of the spectrum of structure of common man mindset/mentality of how the what in the world spectrum is structured & why. he took the example across 4 cases - open source, customer, company, country. try and understand his thinking, its insane, its all encompassing, he's looking at the world as a whole, with few to no biases.
Any question now? I'm writing this on Jan 31, 2021. A lot has happened in the past 13 months. A lot has happened in the last month alone. Balaji has been right this whole time. We're definitely headed the direction he says.
@@AustinMCraigDoesNeatStuff No question about it! Did you read TIME magazine's article about the cabal of tech/media companies that "protected" the 2020 election?
People are saying it's ahead of time. All these concepts are literally from the book he referenced in the presentation in the 70s.Kudos for connecting many of the points though.
What's wrong with this is because since this talk was given Google, as a company, has become evil. Facebook is a force for destruction of our democracy via rampant trumpism. There are no ideals. There are just profits and systemic racism. We need some governance to ensure equity for everyone. Without it, the rich just get richer and the poor get poorer. Paper or tech it doesn't matter. The outcome is the same due to human nature.
The more I listen to @Balajis the more I'm convinced he's a time traveler.
I agree. :-) a time traveler genius
He often claims he lives trying to imagine the world in 5yrs time, so it makes perfect sense you feel this way. Totally agree myself haha
the best kind of time traveler

Facebook and Google actively work with our government and advocate integration and regulation.

Brilliantly worded
one of best talks I have heard, ever, on the future
It's been 6 years since this talk. Does it seem that world is moving this way? I don't know.
He notes the backlash from “Paper” (aka Big Media) is beginning. We’re in the midst of it now in late 2019.

EXIT is a metaconcept ! Wow !
Gem.
Watching this after MSFT comeback with Satya Nadella is fun.
it’s amazing how right and wrong he was. we are seeing exit signs everywhere. silicon valley is a dump
You guys realize he's pitching anarcho-capitalism, right? He wants a country governed just informally by a cartel of tech companies.
What is wrong with that?

no he is not. go back to your paper world.
