  • Roy shows you a neat tool called a center finder tool. He shows you how to use a center finding tool and how it can be useful if you want to make one of your own.

    COMMENT: Do you have a center finder tool or even a center finding jig? If so, did you make or build your center finder jig? Do you have another technique for finding center that works well?

    That is a profound improvement on the center finder that I was gonna make with dowels and a pencil for woodworking!

    Hello Roy and Jessica, I just watched your video on how you business grew over time and some of the things you went through. I am so happy to see you guys working so hard together and what you have accomplished. You both are a great inspiration and example of how a husband & wife should support and respect eachother.
    I respect you both for your commitment to each other. God bless you both and your children and keep up the great work. Be safe and healthy. Sincerly,

    Great idea. Something to consider. The one I have for wood rides on two dowels and marks with a pencil in a center hole. Cheers.

    Way cool I've been in a fabrication/ engineering shop for about 5 yrs and wonder why I've never seen something like this, I normally set a stop on a ruler but it pays to mark both sides as sometimes the scribe actually most times isn't central thanks so much for sharing. God bless your day

    Nice tool, I vaguely recall trying to make something like that when I worked in aluminum fabrication, but don't recall using it much - probably wasn't accurate enough drilling for what I wanted. Will have to try again.

      Another variant on this idea that I made once, a single piece of bar, drill bushing in the middle, and two pins on either side. Not my idea at all but I forget where I heard about it. Geometry works great but too easy to "helicopter" on the drill press and only fits one drill size.

    Carpenters use something similar, but that particular design was designed by gunsmiths.

    ah that would really help for making things that got to be punched and drifted like hammers or axes to line up evenly, it beats trying to do it useing averages and math to find it when you cant get an accurate mesurment like me often times, though I do woodwork though with splitting wood same thing applies or drilling into something, and its faster to do it with something like this I think.

    Would that find the center of a long taper, like from 1 1/2” down to a point in about 8”? Like if you were making a dagger.

    • @Worrsaint
      @Worrsaint 5 років тому

      No, i think it will be offset from the center. It only works with parallel sides I believe.

    • @starkcd
      @starkcd 5 років тому

      I think it would work. The floppy little legs would ride along the edges, getting closer as it goes down the taper, but would keep the scribe centered.
      Like he showed, it can’t scribe all the way to the edge though.

    • @opwards
      @opwards 5 років тому

      @@starkcd agreed. even if it wouldnt do the start or the end of the taper you just do the middle and with a metal ruler line it up using the center mark and finish the scribe line by hand
