London Bridge | A Walk Across 2000 Years of History
Вставка
- Опубліковано 16 лют 2022
- In this video, Sinead will walk you through 2000 years of history of London Bridge. NEXT VIDEO: Tower Bridge Lift: • London Tower Bridge Op... .
If you google London Bridge, Tower Bridge will dominate the search results. That's how deep the misunderstanding of which bridge is which runs. London Bridge is today a rather bland looking bridge compared to its more stunning neighbor Tower Bridge, but its history is arguably much more facinating.
This tour begins from All Hallows by the Tower, a historic church near the Tower of London where Sinead will show you a model of Roman London and the 1st London Bridge. She then will bring you to St. Magnus the Martyr, another historic church where you will see a model of the amazing medieval London Bridge, all before taking a walk along the modern version.

I've missed you, Hun. No one else quite cuts it like you! What an excellent, informative video as always. Thank you so much x
Have walked past these churches many times, what a lovely insight into their history and former past. Thanks Sinead for your dedication and hard work. X
Glad you enjoyed this one, Nigel :)
I think all the Americans who go to visit the London Bridge in AZ are disappointed it's not the one with the towers for sure! LOL! Another great tour. Loved the little model under the church. That was amazing. It reminds me of back in the midwest near Chicago they put businesses on top of the highway bridges. We don't do that in CA! Our bridges have to be springy due to earthquakes!
What a great shame that all the houses having survived for five hundred years were demolished! I get upset when solid history is just eradicated just to modernize existing sites. I love watching your tours Sinead your knowledge and memory are awesome I always love listening to you. Respect for your dedication and hard work! X
Thanks for watching, Debbie! If you know of anyone else who might also enjoy these videos, please share us with them. We would really appreciate that! Thank you.

So lovely to see you back Sinead. I really enjoy your videos. They always make me feel a bit better and help to lift my mood. My husband of 27 years died in 2020 , i have no children , sorry i must stop there as your followers will think i’m mad, but i haven’t reached that point yet. I don’t think i’ll ever get used to being on my own. God Bless x

I just drove over the old London bridge in Arizona last month. I don’t think many realize what it was
Lake Havesu - I probably misspelled it
One day when I can get back to London, first time was in 2008 from Oz to UK, I will book you for a tour esp the East End (my ancestors home). I just love your videos. I have so many books about London, it has always been a fascination to me, even before I even knew my mother's family came from East End London...I'm addicted. Thank you so very much you are incredible. And I love your Irish voice, also Irish from my mother's mother's side. cheers from South Australia
Brilliant piece about London Bridge. I look forward to part two and what you thought of the Tower Bridge experience. My friend and I did it in 2019. We were lucky that a tall ship was going through, while we were above on the glass walkway. Saw the bridge rise from above. A bit freaky, but fabulous! Got photos! 👍
What a cool experience, Kim! Thank you for sharing.

Great video. I recall crossing London Bridge in Lake Havasu back in the 70's and wondering what it was doing in America. The answer was that London Bridge had been falling down.

Great to see you again Sinead... London bridge, what a long and complex history, have a few books on it. I have read that it was Lord Mayor Sir Gerard Conyers decreed the "Keep Left" around 1722. The decree also allowed for Traffic Wardens for enforcement. Already looking forward to part two. Thanks for all the walking you do for us.
Thanks for the continued support, Mike!
Your tours are so fabulous. I visited there in 2015 but there is just no way to do much more than scratch the surface of all the amazing things to see, even just in the London area. I saw allot, but I missed a hundred times more!

There are 19th-century Gothic kingdom of turrets, spires and gables! At the bottom of Swain’s Lane, Holly Village houses are the most stunning group of homes in London. The impressive Gothic entrance which was built in 1865 feels like it's straight out of a fairytale! This would be amazing to see a tour of

I had been to London many times but never knew London is so rich in history. It will be great if I get to be back in London again and get to explore the many rich history of London on a deeper level.
@@wendylim1936 I lived and worked there for so many years and I never knew either such a beautiful City too!
Sinead the effort you put into your videos is so inspiring 🤩 I think if I had to cross LDN Bridge during medieval times I would of had a panic attack with all those buildings and crowds 😵 I still need to watch your Abney Park video 👌 Could u do a tour of Dickens London pleeese 😬😁
We will add it to the - ever expanding - list, Joby!
We missed you Sinead!
My 4th great grand-uncle Charles John Devereux owned a hatting bussines and lived on the London Bridge way back, his wife Sofia and 2 of their children died in a fire there in 1849 😔 Thank you for the tour xx
Oh, wow. That is so tragic, thank you for sharing with us.
Sinead you always give the most interesting tours! You know so much history and what baffles me more than anything is that you remember at all! I am so envious. I love history I just can’t remember it. This was fascinating and I can’t wait for the next one I see it but I need to get to bed. Something to savor for tomorrow night. Thanks again so much! Great book available by Patricia Pierce 'Old London Bridge'. Fascinating read.
Been busy with my deliveries, today. Like Christmas all over again, lass.
Glad you liked this one :)
@@FreeToursbyFootLondon I certainly did.
I want to thank you ladies and gentlemen for making these videos. I've always been drawn to English history and would really love to visit one day but I'll probably never get to. You guys give me the chance to see it and learn a bit of history in which I absolutely love. One question though and not trying to be funny but why did London bridge fall down?
In reality, nobody knows for certain! There have been numerous London bridges and they all lasted varying lengths. The medieval version had over 100 buildings on top of it, including two pubs and a church and all that weight led to structural issues :)
SINEAD IS ENCYCLOPAEDIA OF LONDON.... MASTER OF BRITISH HISTORY
Good video Sinead 🙂 but are you aware on Southwark side. By going down Montague Close behind Southwark cathedral. There is Nancy Steps. Which is now part of the modern bridge. But are the only surviving parts of the Rennie bridge. Part of the arch there is also from the old bridge. I recommend The Mug House pub in the archway there. If you feel like a cheeky gin or two 😀
Interesting about the old bridge with the houses and businesses. So glad you showed this. Is there a reason why on the bridge and not on land? Also, why were the windows bricked up on the St Magnus Church?
Luv your vids and your channel! London Bridge is in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. Strange that we have the original and England has a knock off version. JK Best Wishes
'Knock off version' got us - hahaha Thanks for the continued support, Steven!
Quite by chance am reading ...old London bridge by patricia pierce ... reccomend....
P. S. I love Southwark Cathedral. Met Doorkins the cat. She was a bit cranky, but let me give her a chin rub or two. More photos! She's gone to God now, poor old kitty. There's a new resident rescue now. Ah memories! 🤗

So where was the song "London Bridge is falling down" come from ?
Could listen to her voice all day....
Agreed!
24:36 what are those five oval mini Pilar things excuse my ignorance great vid Sinéad ✨
They are barriers. Meant to keep people from driving onto the pavements and also to close the bridge to pedestrians if needed :)
23:36 owain gywyndŵr’s head was also put on the bridge
Thanks for the info
