A decision well researched - yes an electric car provides a great starting torque together with a smooth ride. Moreover it's lot easier to maintain due to lack of complex mechanical parts. Tesla still rules among the electric vehicles. The power to weight ratio is still unmatched. In my opinion too, model Y or '3' is more practical than X.

Great point - luxury is subjective - technology is/could be luxury as well. Although I do not see Tesla as a luxury car yet; but this concept makes me rethink what's luxury to me. Many times prestige, exclusivity are mapped to luxury in our minds; why not technology..!! I love the concept Ravish - I have an MB and drove a Tesla- drive is very similar (not same). I think Tesla is getting there... Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

They were in the US, then went to Canada because of relatives, but they see US has far more opportunities and now moving back to the US. One son is US citizen and one son is Canadian Citizen.

Curiosity brought me here with 2 questions:
1. Did you get 7.5k fed ev subsidy because you have a status in US (and what?) OR can canadians get that benefit as well especially if they have family staying in states. I am exploring Lyriq myself.
2. How was the experience with customs/immigration, number plate etc? AFAIK we can’t just buy a car from states and drive it back.
1. Only if you have SSN in US and your pay taxes in US and your taxes are over 7.5k for that year.
2. If car is imported temporarily with justification that one’s job is in US and car is eventually going back to US there are no issues.

If we want 7 seater New Model Y and we are and will be staying in Canada only, then the only option is to get it from US and bring it to Canada, correct ?
If yes, then my question is -:
1) Do we need to pay import duty when we transfer the Car from USA to Canada as the Initial Registration will be from US only and we need to change it to Ontario.
2) If yes, then do you know how much import duty we need to pay ? if no then it's fine.
3) And also if we are buying the car from USA , then will they check credit score of Canada or of USA , as not everyone has SSN of USA and no Credit Score of USA. how to fix that issue ?

Number plate too matters,you have to change the Canadian plate if you intend to drive and stay in US for some time.

Sir Ravi, what about the TESLA Battery Degradation. There is only so many recharges a lithium-ion battery can take. After about 5 years the value of the car is almost $0.
Where did you read that? People have done 500,000 kms on their original battery. I sold my 7 year old Model X and it had 5% battery degradation. Sold for over 50% price after 7 years
I stay in California and Xfinity offers crazy speeds when it comes to downloads but uploads are restricted to 20 mbps irrespective of the plan .. fail to understand the logic .. while in India I have 100 mbps unlimited plan and upload speed is also same as download

What i have heard is built quality of made in usa cars are not that good , there are panel gaps and paint quality is not that good , chk carwow tesla model x on youtube , made in china cars vin no starts with lrw check if its same on ur brother’s car .

You compared Tesla with luxury vehicles. Compared to usual compact SUV and medium size SUV, you spend 15-20k extra. For 200 per month Gas, annual fuel cost is 2400, so to cover this extra 15-20k that you spend on buying Tesla, it will only be recovered in 7-8 years. So until then, NO SAVING at all 🤦🏻♂️
just for the sake of comparison we can even compare Model Y to Tata Nano (Nothing wrong with Nano) but the price differnece is HUGE. with that logic you can never recover the cost. Please do some research ...

Black was $1000 USD more expensive. Wrap is not just to change the color, also for protection from scratches. and with Wrap you can get really fancy... 😁
Canadian LR is made in US only till last month so don’t know if there is any new information. But 7500 credit reason makes sense for sure.
if it is 497km range it's made in china, which chaned around 2 months ago... and Chinese cars don't have 7 seater option.

yes, but you can't really compare it with likes of Toyota or Honda SUV's etc. better comparison would be a BMW or Audi or luxury japanese brands like Acura/Lexus based on Brand value, features, technology options, connectivity, Advanced Safety features, drive assist features and moreover performance numbers like seconds for 0-60 mph or racing results. a comparable gas car with similar performance number is 1.5 to 2 times as compared to Tesla.

not much difference with my older 2016 car, but yes slight difference with the newer car. you can get a performance boost if you want, but it's adequate for my liking.

TN Visa for Canadian citizens. US is obviously superior for tech jobs. He has worked in US before, so he can go there on H1 anyway.
Having worked in both countries, if someone gives me US green card, I would prefer working in US for half the pay as Canada.

Congrats for the new whip Ravish. I know you are a Tesla fanboy but your comparisons are flawed for many points. Upfront cost vs a similar category SUV. Reliability and quality isssues; battery range degradation in winter months; already lose 10% daily driving range as recommended to charge upto 90%; long trip range anxiety; battery cost and so much more.
Infrastructure not developed as sometimes many charging points not working or broken, long line ups during rush hours or busy spots, plus the environmental benefits is a fad as many deeper studies and comparisons done which proves that EV doesn’t do anything good for environment
Yes that’s why I talked about performance and technology 😝. Our upfront cost was mainly mitigated by rebates and it is actually cheaper to buy as compared to other SUV with same features/performance and we have had equal anxiety attacks on the road with Gas/Ev refuelling. Our daily driving is roughly 70-80 kms. Even with 90% charge I get 475+ kms. So in real life these are just fears. Battery cost is coming down rapidly and I am covered with 200,000 kms of warranty. If there is no EV adoption there will be no infrastructure improvements. They go hand in hand.

All the money from this deal and from people using Tesla Supercharger will go back into building more infrastructure, consolidating all chargers to NACS is a good step for all manufacturers. Newfoundland doesn't have Tesla chargers, there are third party chargers with CCS plugs, but they will be forced to build Tesla stations now to attract all cars. Good for consumers. It is in utmost interest of Tesla and other manufacturers to build enough chargers that people don't feel the pain of waiting at EV stations. this is not a short term game, it is a long term plan.
