Seemed like a perfectly good working airplane they threw those boats out of. It's a shame they had to jump out after them. 🤔
funny.. some say it's a shame you have to land with that "perfectly good airplane.
Jordan Sayler I see your point and don't discount it. The planes are kind of expensive its good to get a couple of uses out of the aircraft.
One of David Letterman's best top 10s was done on Memorial Day, something like "top 10 things to cross your mind before jumping out of a helicopter", said by the servicemen just before jumping. Number 5 was "Wait - we're jumping out?"
The poor fools are trying to make boats fly, god bless them for trying.
No such thing as a perfectly good airplane, just lots of "good enough" airplanes.
The best is that man at the end, who is counting skydivers...
Jakub Kosior someone had to make sure all the chutes opened, cuz we know for dam sure them boys that just went free falling weren’t
Sry I ruined the 200 likes
Make sure no ones hiding in the toilet
Love it
Military Freefall not skydivers and the purpose of counting chutes is to ensure all jumpers are conapy !!! FYI
Love the guy counting chutes at the end
He's making sure nobody is hiding in the head.
Or the more likely explanation is, they want to make sure all the chutes opened ;)
Michael Bradley ..... and if they didn't? Is the guy gonna radio someone to catch him?
No idea, but I can't think of another reason to count them. The guys doing the jump can't really keep track of each other, so the guy on the plane can warn them if someone's chute didn't open.
You could attempt a midair catch actually, especially with people so readily there with parachutes. Obviously these guys know how to skydive.
Love the count up at the end. ‘“Hey has anyone seen Gerry” ......”erm I think we’ve got a sick note here from his mom”.
🤣
He rode down in the boat
It would have been funny if he was counting and realized he was one short...He then looks to the airmen next to him and gets him to jump.
Man, I never realized the subtle genius behind that little automated parachute system on the rail for the boats

I’ve seen this done from a C-130, MH-53 and MH-47, but never from a C-17. Pretty impressive!

I've actually watched this from afar. Jawdropping, especially the first time I saw it. All these guys started pouring out of this plane 😮 !
I like how he counted everyone at the end. '6, 7, 8, 9... wait a minute. GODDAMMIT JOHNSON, ARE YOU HIDING IN THE BATHROOM AGAIN?!'
It's even worse if you count too many canopies. Then you have to wonder whether there's anyone still at the controls of the plane.

This is a Special Forces fishing trip right? Pretty smart actually. Get in some training AND save the expense of trailering, insurance, tolls and fuel.
Drop a few frags in the water you're bound to get something. :-)
Jet fuel is prett expensive
If special ops guys were allowed to fish on missions they would bring back a megalodon with a tiny tiny cane pole. And carry it in a tiny ass cooler.
You should have seen the earlier drop with the tackle box.
My mom says they got fresh fish/lobsters/etc when my grandfather's ship went out for short training missions with the Underwater Demolition Teams. He was the captain of an LST based in San Diego. (This is a first for me - I've got a family member listed on a Wikipedia page! He's Lieutenant Commander Stephen J. Nemeth en.wikipedia.org/wiki/USS_Tom_Green_County_(LST-1159). Thousands of hours of hard genius work of several generations of men led to this point in which the plane flies and boats can be dropped. Whenever you use any gadget please realize what miracles men have achieved. Very important in this time when males are targeted and humiliated every single day in all media. I am a bit scared to write it here as I am autocensoring myself out of fear of being blocked or sth but I feel such a gratitude that I had to do that.

I missed my calling. Wish I knew back then that I had the fortitude to do something like this. Instead I became a Seabee.
We were air dropping rubber boats called RB15s off the coast of Virginia in the late 70s and early 80s. At 10th Special Forces Group, Ft Devens, we nicknamed these “Rubber Ducky” drops. It was typical to load all equipment into the boat so that it could be retrieved intact in the water. We had one of these drops “streamer in”-the chute did not fully open-and the impact destroyed the boat and it immediately sank. The report of what equipment was lost was clearly intended to “make up shortages” as the list of lost items raised some eyebrows leading one officer to comment jokingly “with that amount of equipment it is small winder that load streamered in!

Can we just talk about how brave they were
Absolutely, and also think about the pilot having to adjust for all that weight being spit out at the end of the plane. One minute you have a balanced load then all this weight is pulled to the back of the plane then the weight is gone in a second. There is alot going on at the moment of deployment. Amazing skills all around!
