Did you notice anything different about this video? What did you notice?
You didn’t ruin your list with an amphibian? But I assumed that was because the one had “frog” in its common name. Did you do something production-wise that was different? I didn’t catch it.
There's no echo'y sound anymore! 😅
Went back to the snake intro instead of the other I like the snake one better
Could you do a video on frog-eyed geckos?
Hi Adam, can you make timr stamps for upcoming videos? Easier to whatch and we got a Netflix 2.0
😁😁
Definitely did not know about the Golden Spiny Tailed Gecko. There are just so many species out there, and so many that haven't been discovered yet.
Yeah that's the 1 I've never heard of
Same lol
Yeah, I wish the australian geckos were less expensive
@@mattm7798Caledonia has some really cool geckos, a lot of them active during the day
And tbh for what they are, they're pretty affordable for the most part
I think that might be right up your alley bro🤝
You should make more underrated reptiles (and amphibians). They’re my favorite type of video!
Also, I can confirm that frog-eyed geckos are awesome. They’re called wonder geckos for a reason! They’re wonderful.
I'd love it if you could talk about Viper Geckos! I only learned about them this past May at an expo - they're like if leopard geckos were the size of mourning geckos, and bred just as readily! They're so cool, and I'd love to see more people learn about them.
@Teamgeist Yeah, mine died pretty quickly after I got her. CB and good set up.. They look cool but a leopard is prolly a better pet.
Being an Australian, I see those two all the time on local markets and my go to breeder/ store. Always baffles me when people outside of the country pay a mint for animals that are so inexpensive here.
You should do a feature on some unique Australian skinks and geckos some time.
Same in Indonesia
Yeah Ackies are so popular here hey… I suspect the Gilleni will be too once more are bred. But even Shinglebacks which are cheap as here can be worth thousands overseas…
@@naychaboi picked up a shingle back for 60 bucks the other day, makes me laugh to see how bloody pricey they are overseas
It was so nice meeting you at AnimalCon! What a great event. I was the tall woman in the elevator that you said, “How’d you know my name?”, to. That impressed me because it showed you don’t have a big ego that just assumes everyone will know who you are. Especially at an event like that. Super nice guy!! 🦎❤️🦎
I knew 3 out of the 5, just the golden spiny tail and the frog eye were new to me and that’s mostly thanks to you and Clint. Thank you for broadening my knowledge of reptile species and how to care for the ones I have. With help from you, Clint, Elle, Emily, Lori Torrini and Bob Bledsoe, along with my own research and hands-on experience, my reptiles are doing better than ever and will all be getting upgrades as money allows (so slowly and 1 at a time). I appreciate all the time and effort and money that you put into the channel and the animals you feature here and I hope you continue making videos for a long time. Thanks for everything Adam. ☺️💕
Thanks for watching!
All my favorite reptile channels 👍🙂👍🙂
A lizard that could go on the list is a rankin’s dragon it’s kinda like a dwarf bearded dragon
Harder to find too
i own one of those, theyre also known as pygmy bearded dragons
and they really are just smaller bearded dragons lol
I just realized my clip is there. That's freaking awesome!! Thanks man
Thank you!
@@WickensWickedReptiles oh no, thank you! If you ever need some clips feel free to let me know. I always have some saved from all my lizards
I was very much under the assumption I would know all of them. WOW, you won Golden Spiny Tiled Gecko (Strophurus taenicauda). I had never heard of or seen Strophurus taenicauda. You taught me something new.
"Frog Eyed Gecko" Teratoscincus scincus? You're always sneaking an amphibian into the list.
I like it wicked wickens reptile have a great day have a cool day have a super day wicked wickens reptile
Thank you!
I have to be honest, I already knew about a couple of the species on this list, particularly Ackies because I absolutely LOVE monitor lizards but because of my disabilities I wouldn't be able to care for one of the dream monitors (a full expression Black Dragon Asian Water Monitor or a Blue Tree Monitor 🖤💙) as they are just too big so while looking around online for information and pictures of these beautiful creatures I discovered the smaller Ackies. If my health and financial situation ever changed enough I would still love to have at least one of the two bigger dream lizards but Ackies (specifically the red ones) have become my more attainable dream lizard lol!
Ok you got me with #1 and Sherlock was happy be featured at #2!
Sherlock is awesome
Would love to see a video about the different smaller monitors, like the kimberly rock monitors, timor monitors, gillens monitors and how they compare to the most amazing ackies. Also would really like to see a video with xenagama. Now that we are captive breeding them, we should start seeing them kept more.
Nice to see a Frog Eyed Gecko there!! As somebody that keeps one I can definitely say that they're very underrated. And Collared Lizards too!
Agreed !
@Teamgeist agreed! They're very cool. I'm hoping to find a female this year or early next year. Hopefully I can breed them
I’ve been looking into getting one because they’re soooo cute but reading up on them I’ve heard they’re really hard to care for and super unhandleable. Would anybody recommend these for “beginners” I’ve had turtles in the past so I’m not new to reptiles but never any geckos I just want to make sure I understand what I’m getting into
@@Mai.Mais_world the care for them is not difficult, but you're right, they're not handleable
I feel like Eurydactylodes geckos are super underrated-very few geckos that are handleable can be comfortably housed in a 12x12x18. And they’re super cute and pretty reasonably priced. Definitely one for your part two!
Dafuq? No.
Atleast 18x18x24
Everything less is pretty much not comfortably and too small for an adult.
You should definitely include different types of Anoles like Allison’s anoles and Blue Beauty anoles in the second one. Anoles are definitely one of the most underrated reptiles.
For sure
I’m glad that Schneider skinks were on the list and they are one of my favorite lizards and the frog eyed geckos look really cool
Ackies are one of two types of monitors legal in my state (the other being Savannahs). I really want to get one but I don't have a big enough enclosure.
Aaaaaand now I've discovered that I need to get a frog eyed gecko haha
they are amazing!
I loved keeping Frog-eyed geckos, they are so spunky 😂
Giant Frog-Eyed Geckos & African Lion Geckos (Chondrodactylus angulifer) my favorite underrated Giant Ground geckos.
that spinytail gecko is one of the most beautiful geckos ive ever seen tbh
Those frog-eyed geckos are ADORABLE!
Geckos: What the heck is this dude doing here?
Monitor and Skink: Uuuuh.....
It's good to know underrated lizards because I own a leopard gecko and it's good to hear about other types of lizards
Hi Adam!
First i want to say that im a big fan of the channel!
Second: I have an idea for a video! Top 5 most colorfull reptile pets!
From the Netherlands :)
I used to breed frog eyed geckos years and years ago. Love that species
You know we never get tired of Schnieder's Skinks. Frog Eyed Geckos look like an anime version of a gecko...
I'm surprised desert iguanas were not on this list, severely underrated, no groups on Facebook for them, little to no youtube videos talking about care or enclosure requirements, I hope you consider checking those out in the near future!
Another great video Adam. You continue to talk about amazing and cool looking animals I've never heard about.
Once Again, Great video Adam!
It's funny, the one most people are surprised about was the second most obviously known to me, haha (first was of course Ackie). Aussie inhabitant here ;)
For the next list you could consider talking about Barking geckos and Boyd's Forest Dragons - they're really cool! :D
Wow! Great episode.
Thank you.
Man u are the king of 5's! Always good topics! :D
Great video, loved it!
I LOVE YOUR NEW INTRO!! IT’S AMAZING!
Ha! Those frog eyed geckos are super derpy looking, I love them! 😂
Great video as always
Appreciate the new into, cool
Thanks for sharing! I already knew a little bit about all these species but I’m an absolute zoology nerd so it makes sense haha
I am very interested in less commonly kept species. I recently got a pair of olive tree skinks, it’s been hard to find much info online so it’s definitely been a process of trial and error, but they’re doing really well!
Those little frog-eyed geckos are too cute to be legal!
No doubt!
Oh boy more lizards to think about. So many good choices. Tracie and I enjoyed meeting you at Animal Con Adam. You are the best. Hope to see you again next year! Animal Con was great! Awesome panel discussions, friendly UA-camrs…we learned a lot! Thank you! Great seeing Diamond!
YES 🥰 BEEN WAITING! YOUR THE MAN
Your videos are always so interesting and have gotten me into reptiles. I got my first today: a little spotted python who is so adorable. Keep up the good work!
Great video! I like the idea of giving some of the less known reptiles some time in the limelight. I don't want to brag but I knew about all of these. I did learn more about them though. Thanks for the content.
Awesome into, Adam! I must be watching only old videos because this is the first time I’ve seen it.
Here's a few more I'd like to add based on personal experience:
Yellow Headed Geckos are similar to keeping chinese cave geckos (room temperature, humidity, mildly arboreal) but they're the same size as mourning geckos. Furthermore, they are semi-arboreal the same way bearded dragons are; they don't have toe pads but they love to climb on things and be off the ground. They're really wonderful lizards when captive bred and they combine the best aspects of chinese cave geckos, bearded dragons and it comes in a mourning gecko sized package.
Bynoe's geckos are are type of desert dwelling terrestrial gekkonid (which itself is unusual since the Gekkonidae family is mostly arboreal), but they are also very small, and parthenogenic. In other words, they're like mourning geckos but they live in the desert. They're also becoming increasingly common captive bred; last week I saw plenty at an expo.
Peter's Banded Skinks are basically like kenyan sand boas (they spend most of the time submerged in loose substrate and are absolutely fantastic for handling) but with a generalist omnivore diet (mainly insects but also vegetation and meat if offered). Care is tremendously easy and very suitable for beginners, they're very good to handle, even the wild caught individuals, and they look adorable and have really cool colors. The catch is that they're not widely available captive bred, but that is changing soon.
Ocellated skinks are a smaller species of skink; they are invasive in both humid and desert climates (famously, they can be found in both Arizona and Florida), and are semi-fossorial and semi-arboreal at the same time, giving lots of different options for making their enclosure. They do well in pairs or even groups, and although they are awful for handling, they are quite charming and easy to take care of. They are also one of the cheapest skinks to acquire due to low demand and relatively easy breeding.
Zebra skinks are somewhat similar to ocellated skinks but much better for handling and a little larger. They do well in groups and have somewhat similar care to blue-tongues. They're also available captive bred judging by their presence at expos.
Yellow-spotted night lizards are a member of the Xantusiidae family and the Scincomorpha clade, so for all intents and purposes they're basically really weird looking skinks. They aren't great for handling and supposedly have venom, but care is very reasonable since they're hardy and fun-sized, and they look incredibly badass due to a dark coloration and spikes. They used to be widely available but imports were banned, so now they're beginning to become available captive bred again.
Ocellated skinks are ADORABLE!
Wow! There are so many of these that I want now! You’ve given me inspiration to keep building my collection once I’ve saved a considerable amount of money to do it properly. Thank you for sharing this with us! I’m off to research some of these new-to-me species! ☺️💕
Yeah i have a Peter's and I love him to death, but I also do recommend people try not to get one until theure more widely available captive bred. I'm hoping to learn/get in contact with someone to hopefully sex and breed mine one day to help get them into the hobby more
@@lightningwolf788 That sounds like an amazing and worthwhile experience. I’d love to have an opportunity like that some day. I do have a pair of emerald swifts I may breed once I have the correct setup and some buyers lined up. That’s a ways off right now, though.
Yellow headed geckos are on my list of animals I definitely want to keep in the very near future, I saw some during a vacation in Costa Rica and they’re absolutely gorgeous! It would be cool to breed them too, since I’ve never seen CB individuals offered, even though they’re supposed to be easy to breed
That intro was rad love your videos keep up the hard work.
Thanks!
If you do a part 2, I gotta throw in fish scaled geckos. Never had them myself, but from what I've heard, they're basically nocturnal day geckos as far as care and behavior go, with big iridescent scales and a defense mechanism that makes day geckos look like underachievers
I'm new to reptiles so didn't know about most of them. I did know about the Ackie though from one of your previous videos. I had given that one some thought before deciding on a beardie for my first reptile. I've had Loki for 5 whole days now.
Many thanks regarding Schneider skinks, I will certainly research more about them now
Hey, watching your videos for a while. I would love to see a tour of everything you have and your set ups!
I'm sure you probably know about this species but I have a pink tongued skink. I think they are super underrated I don't really see them around here very often. Since he is a scavenger he actually prefers canned bugs and that his veggies be in the form of a mush. He is super docile, loves to climb is gentle when hand feeding. We actually build him obstacle courses out of old boxes and things and he gets real joy from climbing them. Everyone I tell about my lizard Bandit asks me if he is a skinny blue tongue.
Great list love them all! You should do another list and have Madagascar Pygmy Leaf Chameleons on the list! I have one and they are really cool to watch and the care is pretty easy!
I Loved this video and would absolutely love another! Any chance you can do one on snakes? Your videos are always entertaining and well informed! Thank you for these!
Definitely knew about the frog-eyed geckos. Back when I was in herps , I was breeding the (Teratoscincus keyserlingii) and selling them to a local shop here in Rochester , NY . Huge eggs.
Glad to see someone show off GIS Herps ackies. Jeff is awesome and he has some of the most vibrant and beautiful ackies
Nice editing!
Great video
More underrated reps! Love this videos…⛑
Thanks
My grammar 💀
I figured that chuckwallas weren't on the list. They were popular at one time, then faded into obscurity
I put them on a similar list last year
I got so excited to see Schneider’s Skinks!! I love them so much and almost bought some a few years ago. I didn’t know that they were so friendly so now I want them even more!
Ta ta Lizards. They are like mini Beardies and they wave "Ta ta" to you.
Please do part 2 this was awesome!
Ok!
@@WickensWickedReptiles YES!!!
Love the new intro!!
Smooth knob tailed geckos!!! We saw one at a local breeders showcase in Phoenix and had to get it. So cute and not too well known. Great video sir. Love the content
For sure will be on part 2
A local place owned by a friend - Secret Laboratory Geckos - breeds those along with others. The owner also owns The Reef Shoppe.
great video as always 👍 about next one of those, are you missing eurydactylodes ❤️
Wicken! Hecken good video. Love those little skinks. Also, i have an idea for a top five or a video thyme : top five reptiles with interesting cultural legends behind them.
Love the new intro!
Love your new intro!
Thanks!
My skink is hiding in my pillow case. He is now pillow skink
Adorable
@@WickensWickedReptiles he always loves the pillow case
Rankins Dragon could be on your next underrated list :) a beardie in a smaller package!
I am now looking up this species. Thank you!!!
he didn't have your back he was heckling you. lol
I've wanted a wonder gecko for about 15 years. One day when I have space!
One day for sure!
Was very surprised to find a Crocodile Gecko at an Expo recently. Didn't get him, as I didn't have an enclosure pre-set up, but man what a neat looking little dude!
I have one of these in my scale family. Very neat 💚
Pictus geckos are really underrated and are so cute! Also, they can live in the 10 gallon tanks!
dangggg love the new intro too!
This reminds me of your 10 gallon video where you mentioned pictus geckos and I have one now because of it! Only issue is a grown adult definitely can’t live in a 10-gal forever mines in a 20 long and it’s too small! Maybe you could mention them in another video soon! Great video as always though
Rewatching this video. I saw an ackie monitor in person for the first time recently and I fell in love I had never considered one before even though I had heard of them. Loved how he moved and how personable he was he was crawling all over his human, absolutely adorable
ADAM! You should do a few lists like top 5 handleable lizards, or snakes, or frogs. I would totally tune into one about geckos!
Learnt something new today golden spiny tailed geckos and frog eyed geckos….love it!
that intro is so awesome I love it
Love your intro!!
Tyler and Maddie have a pair of the Golden Spiny Tailed geckos (Strophurus taenicauda) that they're hoping to breed. I have a hold on a male South-western Spiny Tailed gecko (Strophurus spinigerus) that I can't wait to get. They're also pretty rare in the states...they actually seem to be rarer than the Strophurus taenicauda. The Strophurus spinigerus can also shoot goo out of his tail. I'm so excited to get him! I've heard the Strophurus spinigerus have quite the little personality compared to the Strophurus taenicauda 🙂
Edit: one thing I just noticed is that the frog eyed gecko's scales look like fish scales. So cool!
they sure do!
All the strophurus geckos are so cool!
I’ve never had one, and it’s been a really long time since you mentioned it but the toad agama should be in the part 2
Idk why but when you said the ackie is named Susan... that made me laugh so hard 😂 I love it
I have a frog eyed gecko. I love it! Its such an awesome eater. Like a mini velociraptor. Eats a bunch of food for its size too
OMG those frog eyed geckos are so adorable! I’m a snake girl myself and if I ever did geckos it would have to be leachies, but these would be a close second.
As soon as you said ackie monitor, I immediately thought of Emily getting bit by hers in the snake discovery shenanigans XD
THIS IS AMAZING THE FROG EYED GECKOS WOOO
Adam - I would love to get a list of the top five most colorful and handable lizards. Thanks for the great content!
Okay, so I am proudly one of the folks that got a Schneider's Skink based on Adam's recommendation. And I am so glad I did! He is totally 100% on point when he says that these skinks want to be handled and want to hang out with you. Digger was just about 9-months-old when I got him, and it took maybe a week or two of gentle handling before he was launching himself out of his enclosure to run up on my shoulder, and yes, he loves to sit on my head, too!
Good evening I hope you had an amazing weekend at animal con, I wish I could have been there, maybe next year. Awesome list of lizards, I have heard of couple of them well at least the names anyways. Have a great rest of the week
It was the best time
you teach great stuff about lizards I want to get one of my own mow!
Will you be doing any Turtle and or Tortoise videos soon? You always make great content
I knew all except number one! Great list!
Ive always wanted shneider skinks, they for sure could of been number one!!🔥
That is so cool and what is good fact about different repiltes to
#3 got me that's one I didn't know about.
Nice!!!
Didn't know about Golden Spiny Tail. What an interesting critter!
I currently have a Madagascar Plated Lizard. It's hard to find any good info on them. The previous 2 owners were keeping her like a Mainland Plated, but she wasn't thriving. They had her on Kijiji for the cost of the enclosure. I got some info from Reptifiles that said their husbandry was more like Indonesian Blue Tongues. Changed up her habitat, and she is thriving. Still can't get her to eat anything but bugs.
She was wild caught, and is very skittish. There are a few people trying to breed them, but it seems like there is limited success so far.
Would be neat if you featured them in a future video.
I knew of all of the lizards in this one but did not realize that the skinks love to be played with. Now they are on my radar. Thank you!
best reptile youtuber intro!!!
