Ugh. you can just feel for Felix. She ran so beautifully. Miller sensed Felix closing in hard and if she had kept running, it probably would have been Felix with the win, but we won't know. Miller's legs gave out when she leaned early and went sprawling forward and the momentum just took her over the line faster than Felix. But truly a great effort and solid win. Hope Felix comes back for the next games.
bookofshadows86 I TOTALLY AGREE!
She dived voluntarily
Solid win
If Miller-Uibo kept running and leaned normally she probably would have clocked a better time

Lmao at least Felix can say she was the first to RUN through the finish line!
Just Air .

This is a track event not a diving event. Diving should be prohibited in these events.
Just air = Just a bunch of Hot Air !!
Ha ha ha... There must be a rule to disqualify diving on the finish line! Not part of running, only in swimming!!!! Ha ha ha...

Its a race on your speed not who can dive across the finish line
@@zeek3573 , it's a race in which who crosses the finish line first with their torso wins.
@@re1ive456 Coaches don't promote diving because it really doesn't give you an advantage. You waste more energy diving when you should just be running at full strength the whole way. That being said I have no problem with her doing what she did. She was close to the line and she went for it. Nothing illegal about it.
It breaks my heart every time I watch this video. Been following Allyson's athletics career since 2004. Ran 400m before in the 80s and the last 100m is the toughest. No doubt, Miller won, but, Allyson ran a beautiful race. Looking forward to see Felix in Tokyo 2020.
I don't see Felix in Tokyo 2021 , it's between Naser / Jakson / Miller / francis .
Naser said she's going for the W/R so it's going to be a very fast race not a tactical race.
1- 2 4 - 5 actually speculations are saying felix might be the favorite in Tokyo. Miller just announced she isn’t running the 400m she is doing only 200m, and nasser is getting a 2 year ban. And felix has been running fast and improving ever since 2019. So currently she is one of the favorites with Jackson, Francis, and wadeline

No honestly Felix won

Allyson Felix just amazing lovely lady the queen of track!
queen indeed
she is great indeed but to put her as queen come on you would be putting her in front of all other athletes who have done grater things so just settle for her as your favorite an the best all around athletes that is facts
No. You're reading too much into the word. She is a queen to many people whether you like the moniker or not. Her accomplishments on the track coupled with her longevity is enough to warrant calling her a queen on the track. You'd actually have a point if people were calling her the best female track athlete of all time...

She fell. I bet 90% of people here have never ran a 400m full speed. The lactic acid takes over
Henrik Larsson LACTIC ACID DOES NOT BUILD UP THAT FAST! Distance runners hit the wall after much longer. You can't tell me a professional athlete would let that happen
probably you didnt run 400 and even if she dive its legal
You're right I didn't but I know what hitting the wall looks like
I ran it in competition ~100 times. Between my own and others, I've observed probably 500 races up close. I've seen someone fall like a sack of potatoes a few meters after the finish line, never seen a dive like that. Also, this is the 2nd sprint race I've seen someone from the Bahamas dive, but the only gold medal.
mayabowens12 yes it does

Felix is the greatest power sprinter (400/200) ever for the Americans. Lady has class.
Beautiful how the American and Jamaican runners went to pick up the Bahamian runner!

That's amazing
Black excellence
Felix is always graceful....but man she is competitive and focused
That dive is hysterical! Like her brain's screaming: 'no, the gold is mine!' :-D
If this dive would have not happened, I don't think we would have seen Allyson in Tokyo. Watching Allyson Felix in her fifth Olympic games was everything! A true example of consistency.

Allyson is just flawless. I doubt she is from Earth.😒
Miller can even compete in Miss Universe
The majority of the people calling this unfair must have never ran track or don't know the rules for crossing the line. Let's not forget how the US won this event for the men a couple Olymics back...
Jasmine F. The past doesn't matter in a future problem. What does the men's relay have to do with the woman's 400? I have been running track for a long time, from the 100 meter to the 1600 meter and I've seen many people collaspe at the finishe line and they've never dived. Their body angled in a way where they attempted to protect themselves from injury, she straight up stuck her arms out to get a further extension for the finish line
where did u get ur info??

She still ran an awesome race regardless. She ran so fast all the way through it and pushed it to the limits. Respect from me.🤷🏾♂️💯✊🏾
All the way through???
Always proud of Allyson ! She's a winner! A true legend, 11 times Olympic medalist!
OMG I cried when I first watch this race! We're different nations but connected as one.
Definitely a controversial finish.
its not controversial if ur not ignorant
Yep only controversial if you're ignorant. "Diving" is perfectly legal and running through the line is faster anyway
+N8George so did she finish first if running is faster than running straight, why do people dive in desperation rather than get up run..
jo dave Try going for a good lean with that amount of lactic acid in your legs at the end of a 400m and you'll see how easy it is to lose control of your legs fall over. It clearly wasn't an intentional dive, she fell trying to lean at the finish. Diving is also slower than running unless you're running backwards lol
Clive, how can it be controversial when diving has been allowed for DECADES. The only controversial thing about this race is that America's darling didn't win. IOC rearranged the schedule to allow Felix to compete in both the 200 and 400. She didn't make the 200 team because her fellow teammate dove for the line (which no one took issue with or considered it controversial). Then she didn't win the 400 Olympic title, but THAT loss is somehow "controversial". A non-American beat the American favorite. That's the only controversial thing about the entire race. Felix battled injuries all season. She gave it her best, but someone younger and hungrier won instead. There's absolutely nothing controversial about that.
She stayed laying on the floor the whole time so that we don’t judge her for diving.😂

I think this was very fair, all runners are aware of the chest rule, thats why they always lean forward at the finish line , miller just did the same thing but came out as a dive since she gave everything she had to it. GREAT effort and DESERVING win!
Felix always looked with too much style and she has a perfect way to run ❤
I remember being disappointed Felix lost this race lol Miller fought to the VERY end. One of the best races in history.
Terrible race and finish. Diving the line is not running; it’s cheating bullshit and should be illegal. That was a blatant dive to cheat…not a fall from leaning.
@@Jonpaulcastorena you’re more hurt than Allyson. Relax. What you can’t do is deny Shaunae’s talent and drive. This was not the first race with a dive and definitely wasn’t the last.

she ran perfectly! She made a strategy is legal and a truly smart winner ! 👏👏👏 the 1st was for her, since the beginning
I wouldnt say she ran perfectly here...she went way too fast in the beginning and that's why she was getting tight near the end; she could have won this better. If you watch her run now its very different; she now is the one pulling away at the end.

Sad that people see what they want to. Miller was slightly ahead of Felix anyway. The point is she leaned early and ended up falling from exhaustion so it looks like that made her win. But stop your own computer exactly at the finish line and you will see her head and body were ahead of Felix. I love Felix but Miller won fairly.
Felix was starting to pull ahead in the last 10m, if it wasn't for the fall/dive she would've gotten gold. So disappointing, I'm sure it will haunt her for a very long time.
“Disappointing” a women from an extremely small island beat an American who’s won before. This is anything but disappointing.

Diving for the line, intentional or not, seems to be the best strategy for beating Felix. Just as Prandini did in the 200m at U.S. Olympic Trials, which ended her bid for the 200m/400m double, and again here in Rio by Miller, which denied Felix even just the 400m. It breaks my heart as a fan of Felix, but you gotta do what you gotta do to beat her I suppose, within the rules of course. I hope Felix continues on to Tokyo 2020. This Olympic year was never meant to be for Felix, at least in the individual events. Starting the year off with the severe ankle injury was the first sign, then the diving. What a year of bad luck.
Allyson had a freaking ankle injury, she didn’t fall!!! Yes it has been a few months sense it happened at this time, but Allyson would have won if she didn’t hurt her ankle
😅
Agree with you. So correct.
Definitely a dive. She had 400m to trip and fall and it just happened to be at the 100th of a second before the finish line with body fully extended.
The most incredible final at Río olympics!!
Allison Felix did show great poise and maturity in her interviews following this race. Congratulations to Felix.

@@diesto-vg5jz I’m not necessarily talking about her against Felix. Shaunae’s time this year was exceptional proving her skill. There was no chance of anyone catching her up in that race and keep in mind she has the 6th fastest time in the 400m js

@@taekarah Entirely so
Announcer was confused, Dave Wottle won the 1972 Olympic 800m standing up while passing Arzhanov(USSR) who went down at the finish line.
5years later and miller uibo is still the olympic champion!!! She's truly the queen of global 400 sprinting at this point and one of the best to ever do it
What happened to Shaunae Miller-Uibo is she went full lactic after panic running. She tensed up because she saw Felix on the monitor close her out.
Felix ran a better race. Miller-Uibo, I think, went too hard too early off that turn.
She literally died at the line, used everything she had to get across, so she resorted to stretching out her upper body because her legs were done.
Femke Bol had this happen when she got startled anchoring a mixed relay this past year. She panicked as Holmes' momentum passed on her hip, caused her to tighten up, legs gave out, she went down on her face.
Unfortunately, the Dutch were about a meter short of the finish line, and Bol lost the baton.
It was her lowest career moment, but later in the event, the Dutch women's relay won.
I don't like diving to win, but it isn't illegal. You can't fault a runner for their legs giving out, but you should reward them if they find that last bit of strength to get their upper body across like Miller-Uibo did when she died.
She didn't get off the ground for a bit because her legs were gone. She ran as hard as a person could run. Women have run faster, but running your hardest will eventually take your legs out. Any sort of panic just makes it worse and more painful.
The 400m is a painful race. Felix is somewhat rare, not many 200m runners like the 400m.
Rhasidat Adeleke is amazing at both - might be the next big one come Los Angeles 2028 for Ireland.
I love how Felix gives her finishes all she got
Honestly, with the greatest respect to these amazing athletes, is it too much to expect that all runners finish the race upright?
So how far should they be allowed to lean? How would they go about enforcing that? And what if they ended up falling, would they get DQ'd? None of these anti diving arguments make sense, people are just salty at seeing something different lol.
Exactly! 🤣😂😆😅😄! Eventhough it's legal to dive in a sprint I betcha she slept good that night still laying in that same spot!!
Yes it is. You've obviously never ran a 400m race. You're basically running full speed for a quarter of a mile. You're bound to collapse at some point which sometimes happens at the finish line
The most beautifull win! Big heart to run, brave heart to dive! Shaunae is a Goddess
I mean I should have expected it, but its funny seeing all these people who cried for 5 years come back here to feel better about the Tokyo final. I love felix but I give props when due; Uibo gambled doing the 200m and could have increased her personal best by more if she had just did the 400m; but I commend her for trying the double; maybe now others will not be so afraid to try it.
I’m amazed as to how many people think she dived. You can literally see her foot trip a little before she fell / collapsed.
Oh my gosh I just realised that Felix didn't even have to dive, from the photo finish Felix could have just leaved forward
Have a look at 05:41. Clear diving with both hands streached in that diving manner - but it was first a kind of stumbling, then she dived, may be unintentionally
Feliex definitely should have won that
She was too slow
I see a lot of comment saying “People that haven’t ran track don’t know how hard the 400m is” but I run track and specialize in the 400m and 200m and every race I run full out now if I wanted to I could also DIVE across the line to win but this is track not diving and for all those talking about “lactic acid”, it doesn’t build up that quickly and usually doesn’t set in until you stop running she started to lean early and then pressed off the ground and dove across the line that’s it.
Well this is the Olympic, not some random tournaments, people will do anything to win gold.
I was a 400m runner(champion in my country at that) and you don’t suddenly fall at the finish line... You legs are very weak, but you can still move on them, however slow.
Diving should be illegal...
Why is that? The aim of running 400m is to travel your body to the finish line as fast as possible. And it wasn't even multiple dives, it was one. So it's a similar movement to simply running across the line. (running is simply jumping but alternating feet while moving forwards, Miller-Uibo jumped through the finish line with both feet).
Everyone saying it’s unfair, please shut up because Miller’s legs gave out and she dived. Your favorites won’t win every race, so just accept that Miller won this race
I'm just happy to see these ladies perform
The bitterness in the comments stuns me. Miller won fair and square, she was hungrier for the win and she went for it. It's sad for Felix but Miller knew what she had to do to win and she did it. Her drive made her win, so all you folks talking about how's it's 'not fair' like absolute children need to put medals where your mouth is and stop complaining about a talented young women who gave it her all until the moment she hit the ground, unlike Felix.
Afria Ahmed--It's the way she won. And worst yet, sprawled out on the track like no champion I've ever seen. I'm ok with Felix losing a race, she can't win em all and hasn't won them all. It was the way Miller won it. JUST SHAMEFUL.
KoolHandDuke: I agree wholeheartedly. I've watched T&F for several years and this race just leaves a foul taste in my mouth. It's one thing to lean AT the line and stumbled over, but this chick literally dove for the line. Yes, I know it's a win, but win like a champion not like some thief in the night.
Four Seasons--Well said, If it were possible I would buy you a beer.
That determination and drive to win are an inspiration
So fucked up when you look at the difference in the comments of how Miller gets criticized so much for potentially intentionally diving to beat the American but then when you look at the men’s 2008 400 where the American athlete clearly dived intentionally to come in third ahead of the Bahamian athlete he’s such a hard worker and outsmarted his competition if you want to be upset about diving in track at least be consistent about it
No, she did not surpass the queen of global sprinting, she ran for like 357m and then flailed on the ground for the last 3 feet.
Oh my God you explain that perfectly Felix did win by running but the other lady won the race by Falling to the line which I think was not on purpose looks like she collapsed she was probably thinking lean forward but her body said nah
Are u dumb? This isnt time. Its goes all the way up to 399 then 400m. 357+3=360m. They would still have 40 metres to go
*397
That was robbery. She dived after seeing Allyson was closer.
Khari Siyavuya Netshilema it shows her heart of a champion she did whatever it took for her to win that race and she came out with the victory so really all we can do right now is congratulate her
Quick , call the cops. Alert the National Guard and Army.....not for robbery , for the assault Shaunae put on the competition!
It's legal 😂😂😂😂
Ssmash This isn't cheating. If it's in the rules, you can do anything. Even if you killed your opponent and it wasn't in the rules you would still win because even the laws can't effect the rules of an official competition. These types of things has happened before and you can't blame anyone for the lack of rules.
If Miller hadn't fallen, Felix would've won. Great run by all involved

Nice move at the end by Miller. When she got low about 5 meters out to push with both legs for the dive across the line, you can tell she has practiced this last ditch emergency move before. Gave her just enough to beat Felix.
From 4:21-4:23 Felix's shoulders were levelling up and about to pass Miller's due to the late momentum. The collapse catapaulted Millers shoulders (first part of torso to cross line wins) forward. Sorry I call BS on those who say the dive/fall/collapse didn't give her the gold medal. I hate USA but Felix was ripped off hard here. Unolympic, unethical and an utter outrage. Rules are rules I suppose but if i ruled the roost Miller wouldve been relegated to second.
Miller didn't intentionally dive, she clearly collapsed as she tried to dip, and even if she did dive on purpose, there's no rule against it, runners don't do it because it slows them and risks injury, I don't understand people's issue with this.

Flarp people’s issue with this is that it may be allowed but it cleared gives the person collapsing or diving the advantage of the torso, you can even see it in the replay
