    Ugh. you can just feel for Felix. She ran so beautifully. Miller sensed Felix closing in hard and if she had kept running, it probably would have been Felix with the win, but we won't know. Miller's legs gave out when she leaned early and went sprawling forward and the momentum just took her over the line faster than Felix. But truly a great effort and solid win. Hope Felix comes back for the next games.

      @@re1ive456 Coaches don't promote diving because it really doesn't give you an advantage. You waste more energy diving when you should just be running at full strength the whole way. That being said I have no problem with her doing what she did. She was close to the line and she went for it. Nothing illegal about it.

    It breaks my heart every time I watch this video. Been following Allyson's athletics career since 2004. Ran 400m before in the 80s and the last 100m is the toughest. No doubt, Miller won, but, Allyson ran a beautiful race. Looking forward to see Felix in Tokyo 2020.

      I don't see Felix in Tokyo 2021 , it's between Naser / Jakson / Miller / francis .
      Naser said she's going for the W/R so it's going to be a very fast race not a tactical race.

      1- 2 4 - 5 actually speculations are saying felix might be the favorite in Tokyo. Miller just announced she isn’t running the 400m she is doing only 200m, and nasser is getting a 2 year ban. And felix has been running fast and improving ever since 2019. So currently she is one of the favorites with Jackson, Francis, and wadeline

I have been running track for a long time, from the 100 meter to the 1600 meter and I've seen many people collaspe at the finishe line and they've never dived. Their body angled in a way where they attempted to protect themselves from injury, she straight up stuck her arms out to get a further extension for the finish line

      jo dave Try going for a good lean with that amount of lactic acid in your legs at the end of a 400m and you'll see how easy it is to lose control of your legs fall over. It clearly wasn't an intentional dive, she fell trying to lean at the finish. Diving is also slower than running unless you're running backwards lol

    • @allfiner
      @allfiner 8 років тому +87

      Clive, how can it be controversial when diving has been allowed for DECADES. The only controversial thing about this race is that America's darling didn't win. IOC rearranged the schedule to allow Felix to compete in both the 200 and 400. She didn't make the 200 team because her fellow teammate dove for the line (which no one took issue with or considered it controversial). Then she didn't win the 400 Olympic title, but THAT loss is somehow "controversial". A non-American beat the American favorite. That's the only controversial thing about the entire race. Felix battled injuries all season. She gave it her best, but someone younger and hungrier won instead. There's absolutely nothing controversial about that.

    Diving for the line, intentional or not, seems to be the best strategy for beating Felix. Just as Prandini did in the 200m at U.S. Olympic Trials, which ended her bid for the 200m/400m double, and again here in Rio by Miller, which denied Felix even just the 400m. It breaks my heart as a fan of Felix, but you gotta do what you gotta do to beat her I suppose, within the rules of course. I hope Felix continues on to Tokyo 2020. This Olympic year was never meant to be for Felix, at least in the individual events. Starting the year off with the severe ankle injury was the first sign, then the diving. What a year of bad luck.

  • @SkyTurnsPurplePhotography
    @SkyTurnsPurplePhotography Місяць тому +1

    What happened to Shaunae Miller-Uibo is she went full lactic after panic running. She tensed up because she saw Felix on the monitor close her out.
    Felix ran a better race. Miller-Uibo, I think, went too hard too early off that turn.
    She literally died at the line, used everything she had to get across, so she resorted to stretching out her upper body because her legs were done.
    Femke Bol had this happen when she got startled anchoring a mixed relay this past year. She panicked as Holmes' momentum passed on her hip, caused her to tighten up, legs gave out, she went down on her face.
    Unfortunately, the Dutch were about a meter short of the finish line, and Bol lost the baton.
    It was her lowest career moment, but later in the event, the Dutch women's relay won.
    I don't like diving to win, but it isn't illegal. You can't fault a runner for their legs giving out, but you should reward them if they find that last bit of strength to get their upper body across like Miller-Uibo did when she died.
    She didn't get off the ground for a bit because her legs were gone. She ran as hard as a person could run. Women have run faster, but running your hardest will eventually take your legs out. Any sort of panic just makes it worse and more painful.
    The 400m is a painful race. Felix is somewhat rare, not many 200m runners like the 400m.
    Rhasidat Adeleke is amazing at both - might be the next big one come Los Angeles 2028 for Ireland.

    • @timmytheinventor4746

      Why is that? The aim of running 400m is to travel your body to the finish line as fast as possible. And it wasn't even multiple dives, it was one. So it's a similar movement to simply running across the line. (running is simply jumping but alternating feet while moving forwards, Miller-Uibo jumped through the finish line with both feet).
