I remember being tmyounger and often being bored and going outside to find entertainment now I just sit inside and do nothing.
I hear you man…even tho most folks see me enjoying a pipe on screen, most all of my smokes are just spent unplugged, enjoying nature and being quiet, contemplating alone. It’s really therapeutic and relaxing for me!
Totally agree. Slow down, take a walk / hike, sit on the porch, focus on nothing for the time a pipe will allow, and amazing clarity and or calmness can happen. I’ve made it a rule that if I’m enjoying a pipe on the back porch there’s no phones or chatter about stressful current events (myself included). Always regret when I break my own rules during “unwind time”.
Gunsmoke......one of the greatest shows ever! Things were better back in the day, no cell phones, no techno-chaotic hell.......just simpke things! Great video!
As a member of the young generation, I have felt incredibly overwhelmed by the fast paced and unnatural nature of modern life. The chaos and panic inducing movement compels me to be chaotic and in a state of panic and distress. It's incredibly difficult to slow the mind and body down and the pipe is a beautiful way to achieve it if you take to it well.
That's what I'm talking about. I just bought my first pipe, and all I'm going to do is find a park sit down and Puff my beginner's pipe. All by myself. Thank you I understand.👍🏽💯
You are right about slowing down and getting away from it all. Too many people today think that the cure for burnout and anxiety is to attack the problems even harder next time. People never seem to notice that their efforts are not more fruitful when they do this. "Sometimes the bucket just can not hold any more water". Highly intelligent people have trouble coming to terms with this simple truth.
I told my wife I wouldn't smoke a pipe, but I have one in my mouth frequently. I started at 18 after joining the navy (pre-insanity) when we could still grow a beard and they gave us beer rations. I had a chief who would smoke a pipe, then spin it upside down and run on the beach, so I did too. Sir Ralph Richardson, my favorite actor smoked a pipe. Great video even for the insane!
i started smoking a tobacco pipe after seeing some your videos, what to say... thank you :D but i actually enjoy it because the pipe allow me to think calmly, not really doing nothing...
Hi ! I'm a French pipe smoker. Really, thanks a lot for this excellent and touching video. I agree with you on every point. We should spend more time doing nothing instead of running constantly. One more excellent video. Your channel is one of my favorite ones in English (this pipe is very nice). I've cited your channel in the descriptions of my videos.
for me, it`s like a form of meditation. I can just sit down, look through the window, appreciate the view, think about what I wanna write in my journal (which is also pretty awsm way of slowing down btw)
You are so right on. Old guy here. I was a kid in the fifties. Life was outside, in the fields, in the woods, in the neighborhoods. It was paradise. It was all the neighborhood kids all friends or enemies but all outside together and learning important things that everyone now has no clue about.
@mrarivv0007 There is some truth to that however (I'm 26 so Gen z I believe?) Lots of kids in Gen Z are extremely lazy and I get ashamed to be grouped up in them because they want to get rid of their rights and want handouts alot

My dad smoked a pipe. In fact, he smoked a pipe, cigars and cigarettes but he had a pipe lit most of the time. He loved Amphora tobaccos most i think. I guess he was like his father a Yorkshireman who i could never understand as a kid but they both enjoyed their pipes. Well, i'm 57 now and i think i might take up pipe smoking now. Partly to remind me of my dad but partly to make me stop, slow down and unwind. Yeah.....its time. See you at the tobacco shop !
I’m 54, and I have just been given 4 lovely pipes from a lovely old ex pipe smoker. 3 K&P Petersons briars and a knobbly block meerschaum. I’ve ordered a nice leather pouch, to keep 2 favourite pipes in. I haven’t bought any baccy yet but I will! My late dad used to smoke a pipe through all of my youth, and I loved the smell and have fond memories of him smoking his pipe. I’m definitely taking this up! In your 50’s is the perfect time to. 👍🇬🇧
Hey, sorry if I'm too honest but you should really study this video because this is the essence of this channel and the reason I started following it. The last good and pipe-philosophy-essence related video before this one here was waaaaay to long ago. But this one is good, really good!
Yes, I agree. Here from France. I've found out this channel since I decided to smoke pipe. Really, I like all his videos a lot but this one is very, very good...
I’m a 25 year old pipe smoker (started it in the first lockdown at age 23) and it’s the best decision. I’ve made. My pipe relaxes me and elevates my mood.
I saw Andy Griffith talk bout the show once. He said the show was set in the early 60s, but they played it and wrote it like it was the 1930s. That was the magic I think.
To me smoking a pipe is therapeutic, it’s a way to relax and meditate. I also look at pipes as a work of art. Love to collect them, and display on my pipe rack.
To be honest I'm more of a cigar man. But I get your point completely I have almost forgotten the relaxion of this ritual by being more concerned about pairing the right cigar with the right beer or whiskey and bringing my phone outside with me when I have a cigar . I need to get back to the tru relaxion of enjoying my cigars no more taking my phone with me
I am not smoker, but the philosophy you are telling is amazing, I can't deny that, you are a happy man. Thanks a lot for sharing such a wonderful musing.
You outlined alot of great points here...the 40's thru the 70's were much better times for mental health and development...using your imagination and human interaction.
Tonight I smoked a pipe for the first time. I smoked cigarettes for a bunch of years but haven’t touched one in half a decade, however a few weeks ago I bought a pipe kit and some tobacco thinking that it might be something I want to do from time to time. Tonight I decided to try it out, and I really enjoyed it. The experience reminded me of the difference between listening to a Spotify playlist shuffling in the background while at work vs sitting in front of a record player listening to an album front to back through headphones... Smoking cigs or vaping is like this mindless extra task that you layer over the list of other things you’re doing at the same time, but the pipe took some effort and thought to get going and once it was going I didn’t want to set it down and look at my phone or anything, I just felt content doing nothing.

Great video. Thank you. Life can be very hectic and stressful. I agree that it is good to take some time and just relax, think, imagine, and be creative. Often times creative thoughts come from moments like these.
