- This is one of my all time Jazz favorite classics,,,,,,,,,,,,,,I hope you enjoy all my offerings as they have been hand picked from my library for being staples from my listening days of Detroit's Jazz Giant WJZZ, THIS CHANNEL IS A TRIBUTE TO DETROIT'S WJZZ,,,,,,,,,,,enjoy!,,,,,,,,,,,,I see my imitator is still at it copying my page, He is now even copying my wording calling his WJZZ posts tributes,,,,Sigh some people are so weakminded as to having to resort to trying to desperately be someone else in order to get noticed and to that i say get a life,,,,,,,so here's to the original WJZZ tribute site the Jazzy one,,,,,,whoever you are Detroit Mac or whatever your name is,,,,,,,go find your own style and come up with an original thought,,,,,,,,,
I remember late summer nights driving down Jefferson and cruising thru Belle Isle listening to this. And when Wjzz sold the radio station that just broke my heart. Good memories
Jan Akkerman's Street Walker brings back beautiful memories of WJZZ - Detroit's Jazz Radio... love it!
Good to see you Tony Weaver, I count it both a privilege and an honor to connect with you through the Memories of WJZZ, hope to see more of you online and possibly in the online WJZZ forum along with other distinguished Alumni such as Gene Edwards, and Rosetta Hines....Here's to you and keeping the memories alive...Join us at facebook.com/groups/196467176968/ WJZZ Forever.

More than just a radio station !!
Without WJZZ this CITY girl would have NEVAH heard of TRUE ARTIST like my all time favorite JEAN LUC PONTY, Michael Franks, Noel Pointer, Mr. Akkerman, Pat Matheny, DinDi Willie, Gato Barbieri, and soooo many others from all over this world of ours. WJZZ gave me/us variety.
I got to visit other places/spaces/time... through these artist music.
"I Feel What Ya Playing" Let's say a prayer for the youth today !!
I really loved WJZZ the best jazz station in the nation, when I went to college, a roommate of mine had a recording of a radio segment of about 1 hour of WJZZ we played that tape every Saturday. and in all of my travels I've never heard better radio than in Detroit. may the Lord bless Rosetta, Cliff,Ed...
I miss listening to WJZZ.
So beautiful thanking god for yesterdays, today, tomorrow and for WJZZ jamming with the Rose, Doc and O Neal. Miss you guys love you guys forevermore.
WJZZ was the absolute best.
This song brings back so many memories..Reminds me of when my family was a family.
You said it the best sister touched my heart.I wish we as a people could love again and be families like we used to have.
I remember the “Rose” on WJZZ. She played some of the best Jazz hits that have stayed with me. Great composition this cut
What a time on the Detroit river listening to WJZZ
I'm from Detroit and grew up listening to WJZZ and I think you have to be a Detroiter to gget the full appreciation for this channel. I'm a Musician and I was such a JZZ fan that I named a group I created after the station. WJZZ is one of those Detroit mainstays like The Electrifying Mojo and this song by Jan Akkerman being played on JZZ on Sundays! It was the best driving around Belle Isle on a Sunday just when the sun is going down and hearing this song! I was WJZZ that also introduced us to Darrell Barnes!! I heard several songs from his Project and I immediately went to Shantiniques (Woodward) and purchased the full-length cassette tape! Yes I'm a TRUE JZZ Fan and so I so very greatly appreciate this channel!!!
"If I Could" ...originally I bought Darrell Barnes on cassette...lol but now of course I have the CD so many good tunes on that CD
WJZZ...there was a wall mural of this on Livernois and Fenkell near the gas station...
I'll tell the Rose you said Hi,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,lets spread the word the memory of WJZZ is alive and well,,,,,,,
This song was definitely 105.9 WJZZ Detroit. One of the premier stations of all time, only in the D!
OMG !!! Such great memories. WJZZ and Jan Akkerman went hand n hand. Through the 70's and early 80's, WJZZ was truly a Detroit jewel. The Memory will live on forever. Coming from a proud old school Detroiter. 😎✊
Nothing will ever compare to the connection of the music, the people, the mind set that we had through "WJZZ" Nothing ...MUCH LOVE for the MOTOR CITY !! Sunsets over the river or just sitting on the porch, riding our bikes, when this station was on we all knew what time it was and everything was alright .
nuff said
I remember those days .Amen
I adore this song. I was first introduced to it by, "The Rose", on her WJZZ show, which is sorely missed in Detroit. Glad to see that others appreciate it as much as I do. Thank you for posting it.
OMG EVERYTIME I GO ON THIS PAGE I FIND SOMETHING THAT JUST TAKES ME BACK TO DETROIT..I WAS BORN AND RAISED THERE AND REMEMBER WHEN WJZZ WAS WCHD..AND IT CHANGED TO WJZZ..I WAS THE ONLY TEEN ON THE BLOCK THAT HAD TO BUY ALBUMS BECAUSE JZZ DID NOT DO 45'S..AND THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I SUBSCRIBED TO ANY OF THE DOWNLOADERS..YOU ARE TAKING ME BACK..THANK YOU SO MUCH.
I loved it when the Rose would give the call letters "O5.9 - WJZZ" that was the best
God I miss this station!!!
Big Thumbs up to UA-cam for allowing us to share our memories. I've never heard this before today. Sounds like WJZZ in Detroit was as memorable as my days growing up listening to WHUR in DC. We had the Quiet Storm with Melvin Lindsey but it seems like the style, the mood and the quality was on par.
@cartiergl, thank you for sharing a bit of your past.
This song reminds me of my mother she introduced me to jazz when I was just a kid now I am in my foxy 40's I love jazz I close my eyes and let this song take me away my jam yes😃
JAZZ IS FOREVER!!! When all of the other music fails... Jazz comes to rescue you!
I was introduced to Michael Franks through this station. This song will live in my mind forever.❤
Living in Palmer Park 1979, listening to WJZZ, and all of sudden this TUNE came across the air waves and I was HOOKED.
Man, I came across this and hit the roof. Not only is this a jazz classic, but WJZZ is one of the best stations. Grew up on the West Side listening to it, such great memories. Life was so much different back then and no matter what, I always knew I could tune in and lose myself in the music of Donald Byrd, Lonnie Liston Smith, Roy Ayres, Pat Metheney, Spiro Gyra, or in this case, Jan Akkermann. Thanks for posting.
Too damn good to be forgotten...
This was the greatest Jazz station in America! Ulysses Wolf would play this late nights! A pure classic! Riding down Jefferson on a hot Saturday night ! Those were good times!
Thankyou so much for reminding me of the good days with WJZZ. I really miss those times. The station introduced me to so much wonderful jazz music. I was just a kid and a teenager when it was around but it had such a profound impact on my life. Thanks for the uploads concerning such a great period in my life!
Our national hero Jan Akkerman what a great album all fine songs

WJZZ..... You struck a nerve with this one. I miss The Rose Larry "Doc" Elliot and the whole WJZZ organization. Damn I miss Detroit radio back in the day. WJZZ was one of my inspirations to become a dj. Please keep spinin.
@THE1DJJONES
Growing up in Detroit with Barry Gordy's Mowtown, when the Temptations went on 'Cloud Nine', I went to Wes Montgomery's 'Bumpin' series, and WJZZ and it's outstanding Jazz Players helped me out. (To call them DJ's is degrading.) I played FM Radio all the time. Didn't even have to buy albums - but I did.
