Damn. I hate it when shows end with cliffhangers because they are led to believe that they are to be renewed, but then get cancelled at the last minute.
@@Dane_Youssef I can buy that the writers wanted to establish that Troy was back on Earth for good. But I read that it was supposed to continue for another season where Troy and Evie were to rescue Donna, but the show was abruptly cancelled..
From what I have heard, the fifth season was supposed to involve Troy staying on Earth for most of the last season, as in order to get Donna back it would involve unfreezing everyone and appearing, making it where Burt Reynolds would have had to be in that season. However, they also couldn't be certain of Reynolds' committing for the entire season.
When *_Out of This World_* (1987-1991) began *Season 4* (1990-1991), *Burt Reynolds* simultaneously started his new sitcom *_Evening Shade_* (1990-1994) for which he won an *Emmy* in *1991* and a *Golden Globe* in *1992.* Thus, he became unavailable.
Would be awesome if they did a direct-to-DVD or direct-to-streaming movie wrapping things up (both the actresses for Evie and the mom Donna are still alive so they could easily do something cool with that. The actress who plays Evie is obviously older but still looks good and Donna still pretty much looks the same, so it could be a cool thing where 30 + years later Evie FINALLY finds her mom. The actress that played Lindsay is also still alive so she can join in. Sadly, to my knowledge, almost all the other actors have passed away. Granted, due to special effect budget reasons, a comic book would be an awesome and probably the best way to wrap up the cliffhanger (the comic can take place in 1991 and tons of cool big budget stuff can easily be done since it's just artwork). Plus, because it's a comic, ALL the characters (regardless if the actors are alive or not) can be in it like Kyle Applegate, BOTH Evie's Uncles (would be cool to have Uncle Beano and Uncle Mick in the same scene together since they were never on the same episodes together), Buzz Belmondo, Burt Reynolds as Troy, etc, etc, etc. However, I would want the art to be realistic and look like the actors (not cartoony stuff that doesn't resemble anyone). However, licensing rights and actor likeness rights would probably be expensive since I can't imagine the comic selling to well enough to cover the costs (most comics outside of the more well known Marvel and DC superhero comics don't sell very well these days). It would have to be a fan comic not made for profit and just put out there. I'm tempted to make a comic wrapping things up, just for fun (I would have to use 3D sculpting software to do the art since that's probably the only way I can get the art to look realistic. Maybe a quick 16 to 22 page thing since the artwork would be pretty challenging since it has to resemble the actors.
I felt cheated that this was what the final episode turned out to be. But realistically, Troy was never going to appear in person as Burt Reynolds was basically playing this role as a favour to the producer, hence not being credited in the opening titles. With that in mind, the cliffhanger ending seems the best option because there's really no other direction the series could go.
i thought the show was scary AF as a kid. the whole echo ey Dad voice thing just paralyzed me in fear i... couldn't get over it and could never actually watch the show.
@TheKitchenerLeslie 😂 it's Burt Reynolds and he was uncredited because he took on the role as a favour to the producer. That said, the true star of the show was clearly Donna Pescow.

The cliffhanger ending certain sad. But it ends with a sense of irony that is pretty typical of many series finales.
