  • Imagine you are walking on a vast expanse of land where each step you take determines life and death. This is somewhat the situation in Ukraine, especially in the southern region known as the "Surovikin line." The Russian Army has laid extensive minefields covering an area of approximately 97,000 square miles, surpassing the entire size of the Korean Peninsula. However, amidst these daunting circumstances, a glimmer of hope emerges with South Korea's recent decision to provide Ukraine with K600 breaching vehicles. This development naturally prompts questions: 'Will the K-600 prove effective in addressing this issue, and what unique capabilities does it bring to the table?' Stay tuned as we explore the answer to these questions!

The Ukraine war is a incredible chance for weapons manufacturers to send their platforms and get real world data. South Korea is gonna learn a ton. And Ukraine gains access to more tactical options in their defense of their country.

Ukraine will lose all of these on day 1 like it happened before. How do you use slow moving deminers in open fields when you don't have air superiority? Russia has miles of mines, tons of drones and artillery. Korea will learn they should have sent them in back in mid 2022. Of course, these will come handy once the front moves and they could work in relative safety.

I have wondered about land mine removal in South Korea. I noticed this years ago. You can hike anywhere in the woods in South Korea. How is this possible? There are places where WW1 and WW2 land mines make the land unsafe for use. It seems the South Koreans have made a bit of a specialty of clearing land mines. Whatever they are doing is the leading edge of development. Clearing land mines is precious, hard won information. It should not be ignored.

This K600 vehicle was recently decided to be further mass-produced in early 2023. Soon, about 100 of them will be built. Since Russia is cooperating with North Korea, I think South Korea should also send these peaceful breaching vehicles to Ukraine in large numbers.

The key is not the design of the mechanism. We were lucky to start preparing for mass production of this vehicle since 2018, before the war in Ukraine started, so now are ready to support. The key is that they have completed the project to build a real factory that can deliver quickly and at scale. In peacetime, breacher vehicles are not needed in large numbers. This is probably the only mass production facility in the Global West.

There were recorded cases when a Breaching Vehicle would make a pass and right after that Russian would remotely mine everything behind the Breaching Vehicles. Breaching Vehicles had no chance to reverse and no chance to U-turn. Of cause in all cases the Breaching Vehicles were distorted by a $2,000.00 anti-tank guided missile. On the other hand when the conflict is over these Breaching Vehicles could be used in an agricultural sector.

what i worry about is the ukrainian mud issues. the soil is basically set up to be like tundra... water soaked part of the year to then freeze solid, but the mud can be feet deep... even tanks can get stuck. idk part of me wants to make a land ship that is more like a steam roller... compressing the mud since the entire rollers of it could be covered with track right?... so a redesign would be needed... so it can turn without the pivot point in the center of the vehicle. but it could also have the blade in front, that may be able to change its axis to use the blade or to use the teeth of the blade like tiller teeth (farming tool), and haul trailers to fill in or make trenches right? eh sorry i get too many ideas. frankly i want to build a tank that isn't a tank but a land excavator, that digs trenches and uses sensors/communication systems to send data to "other" units that can defend or attack. in the ukrainian mud the trench digger would and could be used to help unstick it right? depending on the depth you can attain with it, if it could surpass the depth of the mud enough to get traction. peace.

Western military "analysts'" main mistake is to pin their hopes at individual military equipment as a "game changer" for Ukrainian army to defeat the Russians. They're wrong. As reality shows, all the "game changer" weapons the West has sent to Ukraine have picture of them smoldering in the battlefield in multiple faiiled counterattacks. Wars are won not so much by "game-changing" weapons, but more so by quick adaptation of strategy, tactics, and logistics in fast-changing situations.

The proof of the pudding is in the eating.
Part of the problem with the minefields in Ukraine is the ability of both sides to relay mines faster than they can be cleared, using artillery. I am not sure if this vehicle will address that issue any better than any of the other ones we have seen already in Ukraine. As part of a broader plan it might help, but the idea that any individual 'wunderwaffe' is going to provide 'the answer' is just bunk.
