Calling the Greece win “boring”, but hailing Portugal’s as great just shows the bias towards “big” teams and/or names. Yes Greece played a defensive football that was not that entertaining, drew a ton of games and was not that great. But Portugal in 2016 drew 0-0 to Iceland, drew 1-1 to Austria and drew 3-3 to Hungary, only making it to the last 16 as one of the best 3rd places in the group stage. Then they beat Croatia 1-0 in E.T. Whit a counter attack goal in the 120th minute, beat Poland in penalties after drawing 1-1. They beat Wales 2-0 in the semi final, which was their only win inside the 90 minutes, and after being outplayed by France win 1-0 in E.T. Cristiano deserves all the respect he gets for his amazing career, and he was really good at that tournament. But that Portugal win has to go down as one of the most uninspiring tournament wins of all time.

4:50 _Nah mate, it'll never be as big of an upset as Greece winning Euro 2004, we were playing at home and going through one of our golden generations, with a certain young Cristiano Ronaldo putting up a show, only to go on and completely bottle the final, that still remains the biggest upset in Euros history._
Interestingly enough, since 1988, the European Championship hosts had always been unlucky when it comes to winning the entire thing, which included Portugal in 2004, France in 2016, and England in 2020. All 3 of them failed to win the Euros, despite played the Final at home ground. In 1988, West Germany were the hosts, just like this year's tournament. I hope Germany will finally break the curse. Reminds me of how France started the World Cup holders curse in 2002 and ended it in 2022.
I'll never forget that night in Parken when Eriksen collapsed, I've never heard a stadium go silent like that. And I'll never forgive UEFA for forcing our boys to go out and continue playing after all of them basically just watched their "captain" collapse and die on the field, UEFA often drops the ball when it comes to handling racisme and such but that was a whole new level of scummy behavior.

Denmark winning the Euro '92 is like taken out of a Disney tale. With only a 12 days notice before our first match, they managed to gather a national team together (without our biggest star Michael Laudrup who didnt want to play for manager Richard M. Nielsen). They actually went to the Sweden to participate in the Euro '92 just to have a good time because there weren't any expectations, so the Danish team trained a bit and went out to eat McDonalds and play miniature golf. We went on to win the Euro '92 with one match lost to host nation Sweden and a 0 - 0 draw against England. Beating star packed teams as France, The Netherlands in the semi-final and winning 2-0 against Germany in the final. The goal to 1 - 0 by John 'Faxe' Jensen, is a classic because John 'Faxe' Jensen was known for having a terrible long shot and he hit it just perfect that one time. The goal to 2 - 0 by Kim Vilfort, is a sadder story because Kim Vilfort actually left the camp before the match against France to return to Denmark to be with his 6 year old daughter who had cancer, but he returned back to the camp before the semi-finale against The Netherlands and scored one of the goals in the penalty shoot-out. His daughter died 6 weeks after the Euro '92 finale. There is a danish movie about Denmark winning the Euro '92 named 'Sommeren '92'.
4:16 mate, Brazil (biggest world champion, five world cups, the football country etc etc etc) lost 7-1 at a WORLD CUP SEMIFINAL AT HOME in case you forgot it.
@@canalpretoebrancocsc1353 Brazil: Wins 5, Runners-up 2 Germany: Wins 4, Runners-up 4 Germany won the World Cup 4 times and got 4 times into 2nd place, Brazil won the World Cup 5 but got just 2 times into 2nd place. 29:30 In all fairness, the Italians had little room to complain because the 2002 World Cup group stage match vs Mexico would come back to bite them in the ass. The final minutes of that match both countries just decided to swing the ball around the pitch so that both would go through and on to the next stage. Croatia did their thing and won 3-1 i believe and because of a lucky draw from Italy and the post gameplay, they stayed behind. Having said that, however, idk if a second goal would have been scored by Mexico. The Jared Borghetti goal was fantastic, but they didn't have much striker power, so there's that😅😅😅
As a Greek. It means so much to me that I can say my country are European champions, and for Olympiacos to win the conference league on the 20th anniversary of the euros win is something special.

i was at the croatia game in 2012 that kicked off as a neutral, ended up drinking in the bars with a few of them around Saint Ettiene, they were nice enough to us but always sensed it could kick off any minute
That time when Ajax bought Charisteas half a year after that Euro 2004 performance. Then he didn't perform, and he was sold to arch-rivals Feyenoord. And this was barely even an issue (although the Feyenoord fans never warmed to him) because it wasn't exactly a star transfer. Rock bottom: Dick Advocaat's 2004 substitution of Robben for Bosvelt. Netherlands Euro 2008: although the generation of players was very good, the expectations were not great because Van Basten's tactics were criticised, and the qualification campaign was troubled. There was a player revolt of sorts, where the top players got Van Basten to switch from an ineffectual 4-3-3 to a 4-2-3-1. The group stage saw incredible although slightly flattering 3-0 and 4-1 wins against Italy and France, with some great counter-attacking. Since the group stage was already won, Van Basten played a rotated squad that easily saw off Romania, but some people felt that this disrupted the team's flow. Then the quarter-finals were against Russia. Just before the game, Boulahrouz's daughter died after being born prematurely just before the game. The players and staff visited the family at the hospital, which was great from a humane perspective, but obviously it puts the game itself on the back burner. In addition to this, Hiddink, then manager of Russia, was aware that Boulahrouz wasn't great in build-up either, even if he had been in the right headspace. So the Russians let Boulahrouz have the ball all game. The Dutch were also much less fit than the Russians, despite the break against Romania, and this showed in extra time. To be fair, this was one of the better Russian generations as well, with many players just coming off the Zenit St Petersburg UEFA Cup win. So it wasn't a shoe-in for NL. But the result was definitely disappointing, considering this was largely the same generation that made the World Cup final two years later. Only the back 4 were not world-class.
I’ve seen all the real recent ones but the one that marked me the most is Eriksen’s. It was heartbreaking especially since I was with my dad in front of the TV, eriksen was his favourite player and was one of mine too even tho we are Arsenal fans
"Stadiums of hate" was one of the most pathetic, chauvinist pieces of propaganda I've seen concerning sports. Let alone coming from England, whose list of trouble with football fans, stadiums and events must be one of the most expansive around. It was sad to see so many people falling for that at the time, including some pundits, while the tournament itself came about as pretty normal ie. not better or worse than the previous or the following one.
First, good news: today, Eriksen scored the first Danish goal against Slovenia at Euro 2024! Also: Euro 1988, I can say with confidence, as a Dutchie living in Germany and remembering the GER-NL game, nearly nobody here is aware of the Koeman shirt incident. EVERYONE remembers Rijkaard spitting at Rudi Völler in 1990.
The 2-2 draw between Denmark and Sweden was not fixed, but after the equaliser both teams knew they had a result and the match kinda went to a stand still. But hearing the Italian complain is irony big time, because they are perhaps the team in the world that most times have played for a draw to advance.
First Euros since the semi-final against Holland, back then van Basten vs Kohler in Hamburg, just before the end here in Germany. Absolutely no anticipation to be felt here.
Can you do a iceberg video on lesser known clubs Because there’s some absolutely mental stories about teams that aren’t as big as others but if it’s not possible then I understand

These iceberg videos always awesome
vizeh iceberg videos are royal level entertainment
Love from California Vizeh ❤️
Just watched the other iceberg video. Quality content!
❤
Loving the vids bro🫶🏾🪐
Thank you mate!
Brillant content man. Hagd
Was genuinely waiting til you uploaded to ask if there’s an iceberg video coming soon
The 2-2 draw between Denmark and Sweden was not fixed, but after the equaliser both teams knew they had a result and the match kinda went to a stand still. But hearing the Italian complain is irony big time, because they are perhaps the team in the world that most times have played for a draw to advance.
Living in Bedford (large Italian population) during that 2020 Euros loss was brutal lmao
It's funny how Kane's penalty miss during the game didn't seem to matter when you spoke of the 2020 final
38:35 That's not Cologne ^^
Absolutely phenomenal video.
Top work Vizeh.
First Euros since the semi-final against Holland, back then van Basten vs Kohler in Hamburg, just before the end here in Germany. Absolutely no anticipation to be felt here.
Can you do a iceberg video on lesser known clubs
Because there’s some absolutely mental stories about teams that aren’t as big as others but if it’s not possible then I understand
Greece in ‘04 is equal to Villa winning the UCL next year.
The fact Bentdner was fined for unauthorised sponsorship rather than because he purposely pulled his shorts down to show his underwear is weird
Fire videos as always btw whats the background music 🗿
Love these videos
Do you even do research? Turkey-Croatia equaliser was scored İNSİDE the extra time
I remember the euro 2020 final. The entire world was rooting for Italy
So the lesson is
Bring your swimming goggles in case you get tear gassed
THIS IS WHAT THE FOOTBALL UA-cam COMMUNITY HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR 🗣💯 classic viz w upload

Never heard Panenka... Interesting, in Italy we call that the spoon... Famous here Totti's one vs. Netherland in 2002... Also decisive

20 years later I'm still salty about losing the Euros to Greece. Like you with england 2020, I have not watched anything related to euro 2004 since that game.
