I would like to add a couple of comments regarding the F-550 chassis, 6.7, and 4x4, tho.
Regarding the 4x4, if you want the mega-C off-roading abilities of an OverRoad, then cough up the $1.5m. No, this chassis will not take you up the Rubicon. But, just about every year I’ve gotten stuck in the snow in Flag or in the Siskiyou. On flat highways in the winter, 4wd would be very welcome.
We all miss the 7.3, the noisy beast that it was. The 6.0 and 6.3 were crap. I’ve driven and have been the Fleet Manager of 30+ buses (Grech, 31 pax, or Limos) on the F-550 Chassis. They handle better than any Class-A I’ve driven, and with a full load that 6.7 just powers up any grades in SF and speeds through the freeways of the Bay Area. With a full load, I usually get 11.5 mpg, about the same as my old Bronco, Durango, and much better than a V-10 equipped 25ft RV (like 8mpg). And the reliability of these has been amazing...

My wife and i have been doing as much research as we can looking to buy a fifth wheel in 3 yrs. In the beginning of our search we were thinking of, i was thinking, a motorhome. But for much less than the motorhome we can get a toy hauler with all that we will need or want. I never payed much attention to the towing abilities of motorhomes because we will be taking our smart car but the amount of towing capacity for this motorhome seems amazing to me.

Unfortunately, I've been seeing a trend with these promotional videos where they start with close ups of every nook, cranny, drawer, table top and chair in the unit. Fifteen minutes in, and I have no sense of the overall space at all. A much better technique would be to begin with a panoramic tour of the space, then focus in on the details.

Jeff McGrath lame excuse. The truck platform isn’t designed by them. All the r&d is ford/etc industry wide for that and for many years semi bases have been far more durable, capable and accessible price wise but it doesn’t integrate into this market. Same with hybridized systems like gmafb. Previous 10 years best case scenario is basic cameras added etc which are literally

Rabbi Jesus not sure I understand what you’re saying. Sprinter vans etc, amazon hasn’t been anywhere close to exceeding their supply capability from my conversations with people in the industry...? Sometimes market segments just stagnate for a little while and then suddenly they catch up with some real inventive productive improvements. RV market has been under significant YoY pressures for several years now from what I’ve seen at least and its probably a sign people need to step it up a little. I see a ton of things that are literally the same as an rv more than a decade ago or they just added a $200 (retail price) mini cell tower to it or some LED strips that are ~$10 a roll on amazon. Seen asking for that of >$100,000 like gmafb. I don’t have a problem with people making a little money but I’ll put the led up myself rather than pay $75,000 extra. Some of the new designs frankly are actually less useful if you have to boondock somewhere for the night or need to sort of stealth camp or at least not be an eye sore for a moment somewhere near or in a town/city.
Btw there was a critical ruling recently about where people can sleep on public spaces. The rv community needs to actively pursue litigation to allow parking on all public tax funded land consistent with that precedent so long as it doesn’t cause a hazard/etc. It would drastically reduce the risk to people on the road (drowsy driving is as dangerous or worse than drunk driving statistically often) and unnecessarily sketchy situations where people park in unsafe areas because it’s the only place they think they can because of signage at the moment among other things. ACLU and others are interested in this segment of law. Obviously things like littering etc are still thoroughly a thing and individuals who trash areas/cause actual problems should be held responsible. However based on fairly extensive law especially at this point it doesn’t exactly make any sense that people can’t park where they can park so long as it doesn’t cause legitimate public hazard. 🤷‍♂️

With all the features in this unit, I was rather amazed the driver’s seat wasn’t full power. In a typic husband and wife traveling team, both will take turns driving. Switching drivers would be much sweeter with a full power adjust seat and two position memory.

Usually anything above an F-350 is built for commercial work vehicles so when Ford sell them these truck they come with stuff not meant for consumers so there is not a higher trim level to choose unless they rebuilt it themselves.

    • @zonacrs
      @zonacrs 4 роки тому +1

@Adymn Sani Ford, and the others down rate their commercial chassis "trucks" for fleet service. In this case it's an F550 chassis that is typically sold for fleet/commercial use. Common practice among the big 3 to increase operating life. It's actually a good thing. The reasoning behind it is longer service life.

I can’t attest to Thor’s reliability, so I can’t comment. I had thought they produced decent equipment, maybe some of you could elaborate on your particular warranty issues.
I thought the video was done well enough. While walnut colored cabinets may be outdated, I don’t feel the design is. If you want darker or lighter, let us know if Thor could not accommodate you.

I really like the Magnitude (Omni what ever) and am at a point where I am planning to buy in the next...now through 24 months out as I have a son likely to play sports in college in 2.5 urs and want to be able to go watch home and away for him...don’t know yet where he will land. This plan needs a few tweaks to be what I buy.
    1. Need a W/D set up. The space and water capability is there so please add this.
    2. I like the xg floor plan with the pantry and broom closet and especially the tv placement in front of theater seats bs the swivel in bed where my other kid will put a foot through it at night...I love the bedroom slide with the windows by the head too but the King bed option is a huge plus for me (with it with out the power base) as I am 6’5” and 300+ pounds so even with a little wide the bed space is a huge plus.
An XG+ model with an extra 6-12” of length for a king bed would be a home run.
Other nit picks would be nice the out door shower out from under the slide
Consider no dinette maybe in the sv model and putting in a curved sofa/recliners with flip up TV trays or something. Those booths are always small and become loungers for bigger people anyway.
Maybe put an entertainment center with the tv and fireplace in the booth corner of the SV?
In the end I love the 4x4 and 99% of this model. Must have the W/D and really want the king bed on the XG lay out.

Is it possible to do a custom build with a crew cab 550? Also, can I add the higher end Lariat luxury package with adaptive CC and such?

It is not possible. They only build on the one chassis cab. Thanks for watching!

Looks/sounds like a great RV. My only problem with it is, and I know this will get me banned from commenting on UA-cam for eternity, I USE ANDROID! This makes life difficult since everyone seems to drink the I-Kool-aid. When this comes out with Android accessability, I'll be interested.

You won't get banned for saying "Android" on UA-cam. UA-cam is owned by Google which, of course, designed and owns the Android operating system!

Yeah, pretty much just for inclement weather. No one in their right mind would take this thing on anything more serious than a graded forest service road given the price. That's a lot of money to spend if you are going shake the shit out of it on washboard forest roads on a regular basis. That being said, if you understand the limitations there is a lot of content here. Thor's less than stellar online quality reputation would give me pause. Don't own any Thor products so that is perhaps unfair. For 150K I'd also expect a 1 piece fiberglass roof.

My Truma doesn’t give Continuous hot water when that little tank is drained that’s all you’ve got till it reheats. So disappointing. It’s a lousy system. I hope this when you have chosen actually works or else we need the 6 gallon or the 10 gallon or the 12 gallon water heaters no joke!
